Thank you for a great bike restored. Goes back to my beginnings of ten speed style biking.

The bottom bracket on that bike would have had Raleigh 26 TPI proprietary threading. Did you re-tap the shell to 24 TPI? The two standards are not compatible. I did a similar refurbishment on my wife’s Raleigh Sprite but decided to keep the cottered crank, which works fine. I also cold set the rear dropouts from 120mm to 126. The modern 700C wheels I used have alloy rims and were a big improvement over the original steel rims. The cones on the original hubs were quite pitted, plus I didn’t have the right tool to remove the worn-out freewheel. The bike rides great with the mix of modern and original parts. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for watching it. Problem with keeping the old cranks and BB is that you can't choose your chain line. Especially when you are putting a 7 speed in place of the 5. I don't see a need to cold set the frame unless you are needing fast wheel changes which this bike won't :)

Really nice build you’ve done there. Can you give details of the light and the saddle? Thanks.

Thank you. The light actually came with the bike so I can't help you there. The saddle is from Amazon. It's the Rock Brothers one that also comes in brown. Here is the link. www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0CGRBQTWT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Thanks for watching!

A frame-saver bottom bracket could be what you need, it is square-taper and it threads into itself instead of the frame-threads.

Thanks. It threaded in and tightened up fine. Took a bit of work but that's what makes it fun :).

I wonder how long that bottom bracket will last

This is not the first one I've done. What do you think the problem is with it? Cups are in , tightened good, took it for a ride today.

Maybe he’s referring to the longevity of a new sealed bottom bracket as compared to the cottered spindle (I’m guessing) with which this bike came standard.
