She truly was one of my great ones. Despite being disembodied from her, Mariannes music, the way she conducted herself in life, flaws and all of it, her style and intelligence..... this is so sad.. A true bohemian.❤

I was explaining to my friend how much she meant to me. That when you first discover music you usually love the sunnier, poppier, energetic side of the songs, but she. She introduced me to pain and longing in a very real way, and that knowledge made me stronger. Her story, survival, rebirth, and now closure. She remains true to herself through it all. I love you Marianne. Thank you for your gift. ❤

I was fortunate enough to have met Marianne years ago. She amazed me and gave me an autograph on the Rolling Stone album "Through The Past Darkly" on which she wrote Sister Morphine.

She lived so many lives. A little bubblegum pop star when she first came out. Then she fell off the deep end and got pulled into drug addiction. Emerged at the peak of her powers and became a celebrated grand dame. I'm very sad she's gone put she accomplished everything she was supposed to do. She was and is a legend

The important thing is that she’s clean and leading the way for other, younger artists.

So sad to hear of Marianne's passing. She was one of the finest artists and interpreters of song of our time. She put her unique stamp on every song that she performed. One of my favorite Marianne recordings is Sad Lisa, from her 1970s album Rich Kid Blues. The song was written by Cat Stevens, but Marianne's delivery is so raw and emotional, it's as if he wrote it with her in mind. She was one of a kind. So long, Marianne.

Her evolution from ingenue to lush, full-fledged woman is inspirational.
