Same here, Thomas. RFK died right after my 10th birthday. It was inconceivable that another Kennedy brother could be assassinated and die only two months after MLK, and when the loss of JFK was still very raw in many people's minds (including my family's). All three men gave so much hope and meant so much to so many people. RFK's death happened at the very end of my 4th-grade school year. I was fortunate to have a teacher (and parents, too) who insisted her students closely follow, understand, and discuss current events every day. So I was keenly aware of the all the major news events that school year including civil rights, the MLK assassination, the Vietnam War and the Tet Offensive, the anti-war protests, the Pueblo incident, LBJ's decision not to run for re-election, Bobby Kennedy's campaign and the other candidates for the 1968 presidency.

Love him, perhaps even more than his brother, although both are heroes of mine. When JFK was killed I was a teenager in my native Denmark, my family and friends did what people did in the US, spend that awful weekend glued to the TV. When RFK was killed I was an au pair in Westport Ct. it was my day off, I got up late when down to the kitchen, my au pair mother was there she said "you won't believe what an awful morning it has been, Kennedy have been shot". I had been out late the night before (I was 23) and thought what is she talking about, he was shot 5 years ago. Then the awful truth hit me. Kennedy was still alive, but of course it was just a matter of time. The next night I had a date with someone I had been dating, I was in Westport Ct. he worked in New York, we were to double date with my Swedish girl friend. Her date, my girl friend and I went to the train station to pick up my date. When he got off the train it was obvious he had a few too many. We went to the local bar, and then later to a party. Years later I reflected on this curious kind of behavior, and then it hit me, that coming just a few months after the assassination of Martin Luther King, it was just too much for our 22 and 23 year old, so we pushed it aside. As Tom Hayden said, "we became a generation of what might have been".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't RFK Jr. say that someone else (or, in addition to Sirhan - can't recall) shot his father in that hotel kitchen in 1968?
@juliewagner15112 ай бұрын
RFK JR has said that, but he shouldn't want his father's killer released.

All Kennedy's are opportunists. I don't think JFK, RFK or Teddy would directly deny that claim 14:41 Notice that he never did.

His son doesn't believe his father was killed by Sirhan. Complete stupidity as there were at least 20 witnesses in a 12 x 12 area. He would say his son is nuts.

RFK Jr. was 14 years old at this time. That is most likely one of his younger siblings.

The killed Kennedy were American hero’s and they were killed because they opposed war , discrimination. Racism and all wanted to make America great again like Trump . May your lovely souls rest in peace and let our honorable RFK junior carry the mantle of leadership
