Bobby Kennedy would’ve changed this country for the better. America hasn’t been the same since we lost JFK & RFK. You would never hear a politician speak like this today. Rest In Peace Harry Belafonte. The fact that Carson had him host this show for a whole week and the amount of historical content that was created is astounding. The intelligence and patience in this thoughtful interview is unimaginable for a late night talk show in our time. On Lettermen or Leno, it would be wisecracks by the hosts and posturing by the politicians. Even in 1968, Johnny Carson would not have conducted such a highbrow dialogue. In fact, Ed McMahon seemed uncomfortable having to shift from a heartfelt talk about poor youth being deprived to an intro for a commercial for a decorating idea.

It was clear that you were right even before I looked it up myself. It was evident from the question that Harry Belafonte asked about whether the electorate would have a chance to vote for someone who would be willing to dare greatly even if that meant potentially failing greatly that this interview took place before RFK launched his tragically short-lived candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. He announced that he was running for president a month-and-a-half later (March 17, 1968).

There is an audio version of that particular show on KZbin somewhere. I listened to it about a year ago. It's very good.

Comments like this go to show Roger Ailes accomplished his media mission. Really, what are you even talking about? Biden is essentially a Reagan-era Republican, right down to campaigning on assault weapon bans. It’s just that Republicans have gone so far right that, as Ailes always dreamed, the Republican base of today would never have turned on Nixon. Communists. Ridiculous.
