Congratulations on safely arriving in the BVI! I've been following your Odyssey for months and I feel like I know you and your family. Thanks for sharing! Your new home promises to be an exciting and beautiful place to explore, and I'm sure the Wondering Hillbilly will be a perfect vessel to take you on many new adventures in the years to come. May you continue to enjoy the beauty and freedom of the open sea, and I wish you all the best in your new chapter.

Man! Talking about realizing a dream! Gotta be the coolest thing to see your vision come to pass. Just think of everything you went through to finally get there. And you are encouraging others along your journey. Celebrating here with you from Houston. Where I pray one day my vessel will be in a marina close by either in Kemah or in Seabrook. Thanks for all you do keeping my dreams, hopes, and prayers alive. Blessins to you, the wife, and your family. Congratulations 🎉!!!

Now that we have hindsight, would your boat situation had been "easier" to deal with if you were nearer to Florida (based in the Bahamas)? In other words, and maybe this isn't an option, but would you be able to tow your boat to Florida and get it fixed with less cost/hassle than down there in the BVI/AVI? I see that Marine Max is there, but do they have the facilities to fix hull damage and engine issues there? I hope so!!! I've always wondered what the risk is taking your boat far away from the US coast when maintenance issues arise, let alone major issues like the ones you are tackling now. Looking forward to an update, and wish you only the very best.

I'm curious about the Mona Passage. What time of day did they make the crossing, was it a rough trip, and how did the boat fair?
@matthewhahn9013
@matthewhahn9013 Жыл бұрын
Hi Capt Matt here. We crossed the Mona beginning about 12:00 PM for an arrival in Puerto Real at 7:00 PM. The entire trip was uncharacteristically mild! Very little wind driven waves, just ocean swells. I know there is a lot of discussion about the Mona Passage being fierce. It can be, when its northerly current opposes a North wind waves can stake up. Of all the trips from TCI to PR I've found the Mona to many times be better than the open ocean. As you approach the Mona you get in the wind shadow of PR and it gives you a break from the trades.

@matthewhahn9013

@@dwb73 No Whales this time through. It was getting a little late for the humpbacks. The biggest concern I have with the Mona is the FAD's (Fish Aggregating Devices) that are anchored in thousands of feet of water with a stainless steel cable. They will definitely make for a bad day... we usually time the crossings to go through during the day specifically because the FAD's are almost impossible see at night.... very dim light (if they even have lights).

My husband is a production guy. "This does not suck," is unquestionably my least favorite phrase. Ever. I understand it, of course, I just hate that phrase. That said, your production quality is outstanding and I hope that other KZbinrs pay attention to your equipment list, and stop trying to "create" on their iPhones. That quality DOES suck. Oh, and they need to hold the camera steady and pan slowly. Thanks for the great visuals.

Because the BVI is the sailing capital of the world! Over 60+ islands and Cays. Breathtaking views, diving, beaches! Be sure to visit the baths in Virgin Gorda and make sure take the excursion to the northernmost island of Anegada and enjoy the world famous Anegada Lobster! Great video!

Hello Sir, great posts, I’m in the market for a 50-60 foot power cat, and would love to bend your ear on the 54. Please read the Instagram message I sent you. Look forward to crossing path with you down in BVI. Cheers 🍻

Yachting is a hard working man’s hobby. I came from NOTHING. Divorced parents…alcoholic dad…no education…mom couldn’t afford it. I did this all myself. Thru incredibly hard work and sweat. Yup I’m rich now…but that’s not a hobby….that’s a HARD working lifestyle. Thanks for watching

Thank you Allen for sharing the amount of expenses to move the boat. Wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing a ballpark figure for things like insurance, maintenance, etc? I would like to have a boat to live aboard full time but the wife says we can’t afford the insurance. Our current property taxes on the house are 10k a year. Would that cover the annual insurance? Thanks
@thewanderinghillbilly
@thewanderinghillbilly Жыл бұрын
It would not. Depends on where you keep the boat. A boat this size will command anywhere from 15k to 35k annually for insurance. Thanks for watching!
