This week we're taking a look at Horizon Hobbies' RealFlight 9 simulator. This sim features some recent releases as well as some improved graphics and game play compared to RealFlight 8. I also touch briefly on some of the customization that can be done. Of course, my son still can't keep his fingers off the "F" key and there's plenty of crashing to be had, lol! Apologies for some of the choppy screen capture with the jets. My screen capture software was having issues that I didn't know of until after filming. :(

I have messed around with my bros RF8 and being a new pilot,it has helped me a lot.Some like these and some don't,but for what I need,this is a great tool.I need to work on the basics and nothing fancy,and this lets me do that,and it does let me try things I'm not ready for,which helps a lot for the future.I will get me one of my own soon! It looks pretty close to the RF 8 other than the newer planes. I was thinking about getting the 9 but I think I’ll hold off on it and just use my 8. Thanks Danny from Tennessee

Great video Chris, still have real flight 8 and really helped my son and I when I was just starting out as well as even now with new jets and planes. Also, lets ya try new manures you may not wanna try at the field until you have the correct stick movements figured out, that can be costly with your real planes. Thanks for sharing and happy 👍🏼 flying

Ive had a few old trainer birds in the past but never got really into RC flying. I am considering the RF9 soon but am undecided between going with the kit that comes with the wired DX or buying a DXe and just the RF software. I have a few inexpensive BNF planes with no remote. My idea is I can use the DXe for everything but curious how well the wireless/dongle setup is for the RF? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 4 жыл бұрын
I've only used the wired controller that comes with it, but I would say that getting the sim and a Dx radio is probably a better investment. I know a number of folks who use their actual radio vs what's packaged with it. IT'll ultimately be better training practicing that way.

I'm super interested in RC aircraft, but don't want to buy a model yet especially since I'd want to try so many different ones. Would a purchase of RF9 be a good way to get into flying until I'm comfortable enough with the controls and know what particular aircraft is for me? That way I figured I could just sell the simulator should it not be for me.
@Thercgeek

Yes, a simulator is a great tool to learn and explore rc flying. Also, I’d recommend getting connected with a local club as they usually have trainers and instructors available to help teach folks just getting into the hobby.

Hey RC Geek, I’m at the point now where I can spend some money but not a lot and have been recently introduced into RC Sims. I am looking to get a Spektrum DX6 E and was wondering if it worked for this software. if ive never flown a plane but can fly quads in manual should i buy this to learn planes or should i just buy a real trainer plane?
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 4 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. With someone helping you, I don't think you'd have any issues going straight to an aircraft. However, airplanes do fly a bit differently than quads in terms of the control inputs. So, if you don't have someone to help you out, having a simulator would help you work through those differences without the risk of crashing.

Hi, may I ask how does this simulator compare to others, like X-plane ? I want to validate the dynamic stability of a RC model project. Thank you in advance
@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 4 жыл бұрын
If you’re wanting to evaluate the stability of a design, xplane is probably a more appropriate program. That said, I’m pretty sure you do need to know some basic aerodynamic data about the design to get anything meaningful from xplane. Real flight is a great rc training tool, but it’s limited in what you can do in exploring your own designs.

@Thercgeek
@Thercgeek 3 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that this is a video game simulator so it’s going to have that feel. That said, i fins that it is a fantastic tool for training. It provides the proper feedback and helps train the muscle memory for flying. Also, consider that if you crash once in the sim while learning to fly, it will have paid for itself.
