Chaos Resistance Council, entry 1: It’s over. It’s finally over. Lathrix and his Blood Guard have finally been annihilated. The resistance has prevailed, though the cost was immense. Following Lathrix’s conquest of Neter two years ago, he set about implementing a regime of death, chaos, and bloodshed in the name of this “Khorne”. He would hang our heads on spikes, murder our families, and sacrifice us to his all-powerful blood god. After a year of his torment and torture, the planet’d had enough. A resistance movement formed right under his nose, and even included several people who had led fleets and ships against him, having weaseled their way into the Legion’s high command during the war. One of them, a former Onyx Watch intelligence operative, was able to find one day when “Blood Dock”, the place he kept all the captured ships and crews on display for all to see as memories of his immense power and reminders of what he had done, was left almost entirely unguarded. We chose that day to strike. We stormed the shipyard with sheer force of numbers, only half of us even armed. Many, many brave men and women were lost that day, and yet we succeeded. We crewed many of our old ships - almost a hundred vessels in total, ranging from small fishing boats with guns strapped to them to a squadron of Bulwarks. The revolution that followed was short, yet bloody - almost as if it was an echo of the way the Legion had invaded Neter. Their few ships were overwhelmed with force of numbers and the amount of shells we sent their way, and we used one of his own nuke drones - dubbed “Popkhornes” - to destroy his base of operations. Helped by the sacrifices of nearly half the population of the planet, it was all over in a month.. or so we thought. Lately, we’ve been getting reports of Lathrix himself, aboard a simple plank of wood, having somehow survived and escaped the nuclear hellfire and driven directly into a portal. We’d better hope these claims are unfounded, because if they are.. he’ll be back. In force. The Council awaits. (Hopefully this wasn’t too horrendously bad. There were a bunch of people writing these journal entries in the series two years ago, and I’ve been somewhat disappointed to see that trend hasn’t continued. I hope I can restart it, as it was in my opinion the best part of the comments section - though I doubt I personally will make another, as my writing skills are.. somewhat lacking, as I’m sure you can tell.)

EMP I feel is a damage type that is either insanely powerful (against very small craft or ones that lack EMP protection), or almost useless except for taking off detection components (against craft with good EMP protection) 24:00 Remember that materials are converted into ammo at a 1:10 ratio (at least normally), so each of the missiles costs 36 materials Also I would, for closer-range work, suggest a small EMP particle cannon - maybe even on a two-axis ball-turret type of mount, in order to shoot at flying targets easily. You definitely have the battery storage for quite a decent one!

28:30 you didnt get all the materials, because the value is now shown with now much it can carry, so because it was a cargo ship carrying a ton of materials it made it seen very valuable, when you capture things the storage gets destroyed so you dont get the stuff, i hope this helps!

Particle cannons are pretty easy to build. All you need are 3 block types minimum: The particle cannon itself, the particle tubes, and the block I can't remember the name of that feeds the beam back into the particle cannon. Alternatively, you can use particle tube terminators, but that's much less efficient because the block that feeds the beam back into the cannon doubles the power when placed right. You can also use a regular old particle lens that splits the beam in two half-power ones, but that means you have to use particle tube terminators.

It's high risk, high reward, and gets the vulnerable player character model up close and personal with the enemy. Even once other weapons are added, it will still be fun to EMP/Ram/Harpoon tiny planes.

Here is my humble suggestion. Create a cluster EMP missile capable of blanketing the surface of your enemy so that their guns get disabled. Secondly, I want to see a big kinetic projectile chucker, preferably in railgun turret form so that you can punch through the enemy's outer bits into their squishier inner bits and then obtain more resources by not blowing up every inch of their ships into less efficiently gathered flotsam. I love this pirate play style that's more focused on stealing their goods. It adds that extra bit of challenge when the goal is to capture the enemy's resources instead of destroying the enemy's resources. It's a new playstyle that I rarely get to see in this game and it's a lot more fun to watch.

Hey Lathrix, Absolutely loving the series! Glad to see you enjoying From The Depths. I think a useful thing to add to your vessel would be to build a armoured bridge where you sit and command the boat from. Then place some cameras on two axis turrets and control them using the 'Control Terminal' block. That way you can observe the battle from a safe(-ish) position. Think of this as a semi-realistic manual fire control system/Observation periscope . Or alternatively you can hook up the cameras to the 'Video Screen' Block for a continuous live feed.

Lathrix, the missiles HUD, or GUI, or info, or whatever it is called tells you what the ship is. It will say for example "Wood Beam (4m) (random block of JacobsFolly)" So you can see what it is by looking at that, so you will never have to guess at what it is.

Just had a thought when looking at your sawblade... First, put them vertical to keep yourself getting knocked off. Second, you could probably save a tremendous amount of power and resources if you used super-speed paddlewheels. I remember building a dreadnought that had these and those alone could push that massive thing at a respectable 12 m/s. Yours could probably get way faster, and for no power cost! EDIT: The green number is mat storage. What you should have done is paired the Walrus up to your ship's resource group then siphon out everything on board before scuttling.

Adventure mode is such an amazing experience in FtD. My favorite builds are submarines and airships in this mode, I just get an overwhelming amount of *whimsy* when solely floating through the skies in my flying fortress or cozily hidden away, lurking in the deep seas.

Adventure mode is easily my favorite. The progression of a single vessle is so rewarding. It really has a character progression feel to it. Please seriously consider an ongoing adventure mode campaign when you go back to stable. And, with sub vehicles you can make a sort of a fleet... The variety of encounters is so rewarding, and the active captaincy is another big difference, just so much more personal. Thanks for all the content, lath. 👍👍

Lathrix you could prittey rarely turn that hull into some thing resembling a missile destroyer. A full 18 cruise emp missile bay at the back around the Deadi blades. Then put a rapid fire 180mm or 240mm on the front for emergencys or a enemy who has not been disabled by you emp. Also get some torps man subs should start showing up if you go to higher difficulties... Anyway loving your work, best micro-biologists

Walrus is a cargo ship, no guns, it was full of resources but you destroyed all the large containers which became scrap for 10% which you sucked up. The rest of the craft was just the Hull which is worth much less, you captured that part.

Hey Lath. Couple of things to point out. Firstly, when you fire missiles at the enemy, you can see what the enemy is by looking at the very top section of the information. It will say "targiting random block of the (insert name here)". Secondly, the walrus is a cargo ship, and in the dev build the cost of vehicles is calculated intoding the ammount of materials it can hold. Try this by saving a ship with material storage on it, press V for the tatical info on that ship, then try to load it, and the loading cost will be less.

Small hint: Manual Fire targets the block you initially look at when beginning to fire, as soon as you release the fire button you can target another block.

So, given the changes to ammo storage, (i.e. it no longer refills over time for free), the new meta has to lean towards a higher value on energy weapons (because RTGs give endless energy over time that doesn't require materials, plus you can later always create a spawnable high-efficiency refinery to turn materials into fuel at a better rate than merely buying fuel blocks). But this also leads to something I haven't seen you do before - using rail-guns where the rail part is dedicated to increasing accuracy, rather than raw damage (preserving ammo). Rail-guns set to a good speed of shell (harder to dodge), and increased accuracy over range, could be a fun way to embrace the new 'practicalities' of the increased cost of ammo. Given your new found love for EMP, you could also use an EMP focused particle cannon later on. I would suggest creating yourself an enemy warning system, something that, when an enemy is within max range, either makes something noisy happen, or makes red emergency lights come on, or red smoke, so that while you are building and not necessarily scanning the horizon as avidly as otherwise, you don't get caught off-guard. Especially given how much of your above-surface of the ship is now metal, and how you've just discovered how quickly just one or two emp missiles can disable a ship...

EMP is also available for both Advanced and Cram Cannons, as well as particle cannons if I remember correctly. I suggest you go completely into EMP, maybe with a couple of explosions. It should be good fun.
