One thing you could do to possibly improve the flares, as well as staggering them, is adding a dispersion angle so they fire out +10 degrees forwards and 40 or so degrees backwards, surrounding the ship in flares to make sure missiles get distracted. To set a deflection angle, I think you configure it on the launch pad or the ejector. Either way, it makes for a cool flare pattern and makes it a bit more effective for missiles coming from the straight front or straight rear.

I was opposed to the 1 resource conversion but now that I've played it, I like it, it's very streamlined. Detection Systems are awesome, I've been making specialized vehicles, such as a sub hunting boat that uses the enemy sub's sonar pings to detect it and launch neutrally bouyant torpedoes that dive down towards the sub, which explosive warheads on torpedoes get a dmg buff when they explode under water, very effective

Oh and Lath, you can actually teleport back to ships. Just choose to build on the aircraft from the E menu and then press Q on a chair, you'll teleport into it in any mode.

Hey Lathrix, i recently started playing FtD but my early designs are VERY bad (Heck, i've captured a Falkenheim and made a 2nd one because that thing is actually working). Either they're poorly controlled (sinking just trying to maneuver to the side), poorly designed (very slow, no idea where to put my components), and overall my weaponry is either slow & too heavy (CRAM) or are not agile enough to hit their target (missiles). So are there any of your videos where you explain in detail how things work or are there any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Make your ships wider, deeper, and with flatter bottoms. You'll take a hit to aero/hydrodynamics but if you're sinking on a turn you aren't making a speedboat. If you are making a speedboat, the hydrofoils should help keep it from tipping if you make them wide enough. Boats using propellers are basically always going to be slow. The cap is fairly low. If you want to go fast as a boat, you need to use hydrofoils and jet engines. You do not necessarily need to go fast if you have an accurate, long range, and sturdy ship. Cram cannons are slow. That is basically what they are. If you want to shoot fast, use an "advanced" cannon. Advanced cannons are a bit harder to understand but way better in some ways. They are a LOT easier to destroy, though. Try using bigger, fewer missiles. Not huge, just bigger. Even one or two blocks is probably enough. If you still have a lot of problems with your ship, post it to the forums under questions and people might help you.

Also, with the detection stuff came a new kind of missile seeker that isn't bothered by flares or smoke, and auto-targets random blocks - Should give that a look next episode, probably, to make your missiles that bit more effective against targets with anti-IR defenses.

Lath. heres my take on what you should do. You need to build hte most efficient ship possible. and by that I mean it needs to take as little resource to run as possible. electric engines on RTGs. Even minimize how many cannons you use. I"d say just use 1 or 2 sniping rail guns and then have particle cannons as your main weapons. I'd also suggest instead of making a fleet just have 1 very large ship with vehicles attached to sub spawnser and docking stations that will release drones if enemies get close enough.

How come you're using so many single blocks instead of 2/3/4 meter beams?

Because block count doesn't matter in this campaign, and due to the rushed nature of things It's a lot easier to use single blocks quickly and replace them with beams once I enter a blue warp zone (No enemies or resource points, for retro-fitting.)

Lath generally doesn't use submarines because they are overpowered. Few to none of the AI designs have weapons that would both reach a submarine and do enough damage to pierce shields or outpace self repairs.

Gah... I think there should be 3 materials : Oil, Material and Crystal. Crystal is super rare and used for powerful things (lasers, RTGs...), material is used in almost everything and oil is for fuel. Now it makes sense AND isn't as encumbering as the previous one

What is a heartstone?

Its a block you need on your ships in certain modes such as adventure and Story, In these modes your robotic character has life and charge, over time the charge goes down to 0 and your character dies, the heartstone charges your characters Charge bar/meter its not required in the campaign or sandbox. Makes boarding hard as you need to stay charged and cant risk swimming long distances or being on ships without a heartstone

Cannon weapons mean recoil and upfront resource cost. The latter isn't as much of a problem now as it was earlier since now Lath actually has resources. The former is always slightly problematic on something that flies.

I tried building a ship with a minigun-style advanced cannon once. The recoil was huge and it took literally 2 minutes to load the magazines. Perhaps Lath is capable of making one for cheaper - or he might just make a standard peashooter.
