The SE-224 'Sand Skimmer' is an old design dating back to the First Age of the Steel Empire. Robust, and easily modified for many purposes, this craft has been in use for decades and shows no signs of being replaced in civilian markets any time soon, especially now the Empire has fractured. The SE-224 has two modular hardpoints on the sides for variable weapon and utility loadouts. As standard it comes with a grapple and loading crane for loading cargo, but these are most often replaced with a pair of Trebuchet missile pods, or Cutlass autocannons for fending off attacks by the Dustwind Gypsies.

The ALK-104 'Sky Hook' is a utility drone used by the various Scrap Merchants for ferrying cargo from scrapfields to their processing bases. These small drones carry a Cutlass Autocannon turret for self defense, and are held up by a PiD-driven set of Gremlin turboprops, supplemented by Firehawk thrust modules for turning and evasion. These drones aren't dangerous alone, but most Scrappers field them in swarms to overwhelm aggressors.

Deborah notes #5: Well its my fifth day in the business after Lath took me in and i have to say we're running a bit low on scrap so desperate times have called upon our best mechanics to try and manufacture a fighter to reinforce our capital. As the Lightning hoods felt the need to press the attack, the Sand Skimmer was manufactured as a cheap way to halt the swift progress of the Sages, and entirely crush the ants who call themselves the Dust Wind Gypsies, the combined bad manufacturing of the salvaged Dust Wind Gypises' Rusty old Garrison and the technology of the Sages led to a cheap old dusty craft that gets the job done, not any good as a solo fighter but in numbers ; the volley of missiles and advanced cannons may be enough to halt even the best of crafts. As scrap was low and tensions high, the remains of the fallen Stone Republic, or Terrans as they called themselves, scattered in the corners of the world. Almost all were hunted, made prisoner, killed trying to defend their loved ones or even deported and executed, judged as too dangerous by other nations. Only one resistance group survived and stayed dormant in their territory, making money on the sale of resources, for as long as Neter stayed stable. The civil war of the Steel Empire then threw off all stability in the corner of the world the Terrans resided. There it was decided: "No more selling, we shall keep these precious resources to defend our skin against the crazed men of the outside world." The flatness of the barren lands favoured only fast or flying craft. The Terrans lacked any knowledge of weapons apart from puny autocannons, which they still kept in the hope they would rise with mighty chainguns. Then the "miracle" occured where a Steel Empire XF-04 Gannet crashed near the Terran's Pothole after it has been shot down by Lightning Hoods. Most of the systems on board weren't damaged and suddenly plans for jet engines and guided weaponry were flung on the workshop's table. Two blueprints were born from the research. The first was a land skimmer armed with two missile batteries, an overpowered engine for speed and the name of Tumbleweed. The second was a drone developed with powerful rotors to carry an enhanced autocannon and beared the name of Sandstorm. Even if the Terran's Pothole didn't have sulphur to make explosive rounds, the first skirmishes led by the Lightning Hoods and the Dustwind Gypsies ended in a morale boost for the Terrans, a load of scrap collected and an envy for the energy weaponry of the Hoods...

I figured the scrappers ran for the hills at the best opportunity they could find using whatever scrap rigs they had while the fighting vehicles bought time. With a description like 'Revenge will be ours.', I got into the spirit of things, Kian. >.> I would love to see some scrap airplanes that look and don't look the part, and a few other things. This should be fun regardless. My next attempt will likely be more narrative than journal, but we'll see.

Lore: you heard what happened to your cousin and how his land was taken. hearing from him that you may be a target as well, and learning from his mistakes you prepare better, learning that the delivery drones that he out fitted with missiles aren't very good you improved upon their design by using advanced cannons making them more deadly. He gave you a design he called The Skimmer but informed you he never got a chance to use it because it would have taken to much resource to be effective, knowing this you redesigned it to be cheaper while in your opinion more deadly. alternatively, he can make his own vehicles, but capture prefabs from vehicles he has beaten to make it look like they are infact scavenged together. that way, you can make it look like multiple enemy vehicles have been salvaged for component for a single vehicle. in general the idea of using enemy vehicles is pretty good.

As a first tank I suggest building a small tank inspired by a T-34 or by the T-60 but with only the frontal section sloped and a small shield on the front. It will need to be fast, have a burst firing advance cannon and have the broadside setted in a way it uses hit & run tactics, by having a 20° angle from the enemy and a stretched max-min broadside distance.

Here's an idea for a challenge, maybe for another season though... You can only build vehicles in a construction yard meant for a general type of Vehicle (Land, Air, Water, Drone, Hover, Skimmer) and these facilities can only build one at a time. Also, a facility cannot build a vehicle that costs more than half its value.

People, like this so Lathrix can see it. I think I know why you had three enemies last time. For the sake of explanation, the dust wind gypsies are faction one, the Oynx Watch faction 2, and the Lighting hoods faction 5 (because I think that is their labeled faction number). You were only supposed to fight faction 5 and faction 1. I think the war-start code says the first available one and a random. Since you already declared war on faction one, the next was faction 2. The aggressiveness and war pop-up are coded to start at the one hour mark.

I did answer this comment before - It is completely random regardless of warring early and you can still have any number of enemies, I checked this by reloading the save prior to the war declaration on the first save and I got the steel striders + Dustwind + Lightning + White flayers, then after reloading I got just the Dustwind haha ^^

@Lathland - I personally tend to set my vessels to 50% RP (if localized and they got repair capability), 80% for ammo & power and 100% for fuel (80% if they are a fighting vessel that produces fuel). My construction sites/shipyards are set to the same except 80% RP and my harvesting site also the same but 20% RP (if they have self repair, otherwise 0%). That setup allows vessels to share renewable resources among themselves, balances the RP load of the fleet so salvage can usually be picked up and ensures re-fueling and salvage drop off basically on automagic. RP transports are set to 100% RP but "give to" and "force giving" towards construction sites/shipyards. That allows them to pickup RP from harvesting sites without additional config and pick up salvage from nearby forces but still has them dropping all of that of at construction sites/shipyards. I found that these settings tend to make things really easy to manage.

I like the skimmers, but the scaling for small vehicles is a bit odd - for instance, for less than the cost of two you can have a completely armoured small missile tank ( with allround shields, even! ) like flic.kr/p/21caR9i ; and for very little on top of that a medium calibre APS gun with a ... reasonable ROF. LH are a bit helpless if you have smoke, so... fit smoke :P

I think 5% is a reasonable amount for scrap. Honestly a real scrapper would salvage from maybe 30 up to 70 percent of a given vehicle, depending on various factor such as size of the thing being scrapped.

techs log: entry 1 so after that heart braking defeat we rebuilt but lath is trying again but with a few modifications. miles and some new gearhead by the name of axel, along with myself have been instructed with building the engines to his liking, and I may or may not have added a few things of my own. hell I even designed my own land craft which miles nicknamed the toaster. its a missile craft made of metal. the top is rounded with the cockpit sticking out the front there is also twin 2x10 missile that go 7 blocks down it uses frag (but lath if he wants to can change it to accord with his "honour rules" of which I find stupid purely because we are fighting a war) with 6 block long missiles they use active radar. all that aside I hope we can avoid fighting the twin guard purely because I'm a friend of the twin ai's reminder: DO NOT play pool with Deborah, in one night she managed to nick all my money

It’s time to make artillery lathrix. Dedicated, accurate, long range artillery. Artillery that accurately lobs a massive volley of 500mm shells kilometers away. Make it a structure, with a retarded huge advanced cannon that shoots every second. It will be expensive, but it will serve as a defensive hard point to fall back too, as well as a way to lock down large areas of the map. Give them their own satellite that spawns from a blue print spawner and you have a ready made security defense system to secure the new lathrixian lands. They will also be able to provide long range heavy hitting fire support to your skimmers and drones to really add some punch to those fleets without having to build and repair expensive vehicles. With decent artillery your 20k skimmer fleet can have the punch of a 100k ship, without any additional vehicles and very little risk to the landhammer. Your drones too will be able to stand up to huge fleets worrying away at the enemy while the landhammer carves huge chunks out of the enemy fleet from safety. And why stop at one cannon?

I would set the Resources From Destroy Enemies to about .5. The reasoning is that in real life each of yours units would have a crew that would train to pick up each and every piece of junk. I would also used stone and wood as muck as I could. The reasoning is that you would try to save the metal for reality important things, like fuel tanks.

an idea for the sandskimmer: add lights as eyes, or since we are in the christmas season, add a glowing red nose-light. also i think the skimmer looks a bit like frog to me, so why not call it the BULLFROG ? i mean it showed that it wants to jump(fly) too, right?

Taking inspiration for your TeraTech videos you should read try to build a cram canon bomber.
