Purdue University Airport (LAF) is a small to medium sized, primarily general aviation airport located on the west edge of the city of Lafayette, Indiana. It is used primarily by corporate and general aviation aircraft. Opened in 1930 as the first university-owned airport in the country, the airport is home to Purdue University’s nationally known flight school, which offers instruction from pre-solo all the way through Air Transport Pilot. The mix of aircraft capabilities and pilot experience make Lafayette a complex environment. The runway configuration consists of two intersecting runways, and the taxiway system provides access to all services and facilities located on the north side of the airport. This video prepares pilots for hot spots, challenges and runway configuration details at LAF.
Visit www.faa.gov/laf for supplemental "pilot handbook" information on this airport including airport-specific cautions, information local controllers want pilots to know, airport communications, airspace details and other preflight planning resources.
The FAA's From the Flight Deck video series uses cockpit-mounted cameras to capture runway and taxiway footage and combines them with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items. Learn more at www.faa.gov/go...
