I cannot express just how close to home her comments come. I can definitely corroborate the sentiment that coming out of a more charismatic/word of faith background involves a near deprogramming. It threatened the very foundation upon which my Christian faith was based. I’m thankful that the Lord led me into the Catholic Church. I’m thankful to hear stories like hers and seeing God work in the lives of other people like myself. Her story is very inspiring.

Lisa, thank you. You're saying the right things. I'm so happy you found the Catholic church. I was part of a NAR church that grew from shepherding movement. After I got out it took me a year to de-program, five years to heal. I'm back in Catholic church and I'm grateful. I learned some good things, but it took years to undo some of the learning. They would threaten us if we wanted to leave the church that we would out of God's will.

Oh Lisa right here with you. My experience exactly for the last 40 years. I reverted back to the church with all my disillusionment but my wife refuses to come into the church. To her I have gone “backwards” in my faith. I go with her to the Charismatic church still and go to mass on my own. I will say the Pastor of the Charismatic church has a very positive view of Catholicism and still maintains relationships with the priest and nuns of his youth. He was not raised as a Catholic at all though. If you are not healthy wealthy and wise there must be something wrong with you. I saw one preacher open the Bible to where Paul says “ above all I hope that you would prosper”. He shut the Bible and said that’s the whole Bible right there.

Hi Lisa. I thank God that your finally saw the true light and became Catholic. I struggle to believe that these Pastors are sincere. If they tell you someone grew a leg back, where is the scientific evidence? Like you see in the Catholic Church (whenever the supernatural has taken place in the Catholic Church the evidence has to be examined and proved) The Holy spirit will give the gift of Prudence if you ask for it, that gift safe guards you from all these false Preachers. I am a cradle Catholic and have spent years studying the Protestant faiths, what a shamble and disunity they have caused. I love these people as my brothers and sisters and constantly pray for them. There is ONLY ONE TRUE FAITH and CHURCH that CHRIST installed over 2000 years ago, ( THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ) the evidence is there to read and inform you. The MIRACLES within the Catholic Church are tested for authenticity and it takes years to be approved, we have some 150 cases of incorruptible bodies ( Padre Pio, Bernadette ) just to start the ball rolling. In the Church we are taught not to chase the miracles but deepen your faith and intimacy with Christ through the Eucharist. The Eucharist, is the most POWERFUL MIRACLE ever know to humanity, it SAVES, TRANSFORMS, HEALS and is your counsellor throughout your life. YOU NEED NOTHING ELSE GOD FIRST the materials things will follow according to HIS WILL not ours. God Bless Peter

@@Charity-vm4bt thanks for your comment and defence. However I find it a bit contradicting. Why WOF needs a thought process to read the Bible (a religious book) if it avoids “religious language”? Why you argue that Catholics are afraid to think if WOF needs a process to read and understand (think) the Bible? The Catholic Church is a 2000 years treasure and perhaps if you are unfamiliar with St Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologiae, you should read it (written 800 years ago), if you are not afraid. Also read the “Fathers of the Church” and the saints. You may learn that Catholics do think and discern deeply. God bless 🙏🏼
@edalvarez4723 Жыл бұрын
@@Charity-vm4bt with all respect and love you did not answer my questions. Lisa doesn’t sound as confused as “Catholics” in my opinion 🙂. See, Love cannot be separated from Truth and the Truth is that the only True Church is the Catholic as it is the only one founded by Christ, 2023 years ago. Jesus’ authority was given to Peter (the first Catholic Pope) and all successors, and our Church has two + one healing sacraments (confession, anointing of the sick, + Eucharist) instituted directly by Christ. For us Christ is the only healer (saviour), not a WOF or any human made theology or healing approach. We understand the power of the Word because the Word is made flesh in each Holy Mass. In other words, the True Catholic Church is the only one that holds fullness of the Word (Christ), because Love (Christ) heals. I pray that all WOF people can reach the fullness of the Truth and Love as Lisa did. God bless 🙏🏼

Wow, this is eye opening. My neighbor occasionally speaks about her pastor and the Church she attends (through the internet - she doesn't actually attend in person). She uses very similar verbiage to what your guest is talking about. However, I had no frame of reference to categorize it as Word of Faith, which I'd never heard of. Now, it's all beginning to click. Especially as her pastor (as she's told me) drives a Rolls Royce. When she told me that, I thought it was weird, but did not connect it to the prosperity gospel. Now, it's all starting to make sense. As a catholic I got involved with the charismatic movement. It has caused me a lot of damage because the leaders were ignorant of the faith and no Priest was able to check them out because nobody would tell on them, mainly because they don't know their faith anyway. I noticed that at least some of the leaders in this movement experienced some severe trauma in the past that they just couldn’t reconcile with a loving God, so to keep their faith and sanity they decided the event happened because they didn’t have enough faith. I remember Fred Price talking about how his little son was run over and killed, and how he was never going to let the Devil do something like that again. It’s almost understandable from that perspective, and very sad.

Great to hear from this woman, and that she came into the Catholic Church! I'm a Catholic Convert, but also fairly Charismatic. I've had relatives in the Word of Faith movement and also read a decent amount about the movement. I understand and agree with many of her criticisms. I would say, however, that many of her critiques could also be leveled at Catholics as well. Most people would say that a flying friar (Joseph of Cupertino) is an utterly ridiculous miracle to believe (yet I'm pretty sure it happened). There have also been prophetic words which have not come to pass by visionaries or supposed visionaries. I'm not saying all of her critiques fall flat. I certainly agree that their theology is a bit skewed, the ostentatious lifestyle of many leaders is scandalous, and the sometimes cult like behavior is quite troubling. I just think it's best to critique a steelmanned version of whatever we're analyzing and making sure the thing we're criticizing is particular to that movement and not something our own movement has struggled with.

Confession in the WOF sense is about creation of reality through words. Think of it as positive affirmations that manifest reality. As Catholics, we confess our sins through the sacrament of reconciliation-a completely different practice with a spirit of humility. 😊

Hi there! Many years ago when this was in full blast I was friends with several people who were involved. I am Catholic and I never left Catholicism. But these people we’re doing just what you said they would not say anything negative…they work their words out so that it would only speak good stuff. It really sounded funny to me because it wasn’t reality. But these people also were Catholic and they were combining it into their Catholic faith. So I went to some of their worship services and things in their homes, etc. I thought it was very strange anyway. I never left my faith but I still was worshiping God. But this is very interesting and I hope this goes out to all the people who were duped by it. J. Osteen still does it I am I right? Everybody likes a happy environment and a positive outlook. And that’s what these people give when things are going bad. They say everything’s really going to be good. So it’s easy to see why people get into it. I think it’s very important to be upbeat and know that Jesus Christ is with you and helping you through something and maybe he will heal you.. I know that a friend of mine had cancer and we went and I joined them to see Joel Osteen. His wife wanted to cheer him up and take him at least positive and not so sad and depressed. That was OK in my opinion. It was very upbeat and uplifting. But it didn’t cost me to leave my face at all. I just knew it was something different and it didn’t hurt him. I just gave him a little joy one day.

I stumbled across your video last night, and my first thought about this attractive woman is that she is very intelligent. However, I must make one correction having to do with her understanding of the interior life of fallen human beings(and to give her the benefit of the doubt she may already recognize the distinction). Around 23m she mentioned a man as being very "humble". She may have realized that PSYCHOLOGICALLY some people are very nasty and others are very loveable and humble. which sounds like this guy. Nevertheless, like all things Catholic there are more profound spiritual depths which make my mystics soul rejoice. True humility is spiritual and can only come from christ. The beatific vision is our ultimate calling, and i've been shown by grace to understand life on earth and the glories of seeing God face-to-face in this way:...While alive our psychological and spiritual lives are inextricably interwoven, while those glorified souls, absolutely purified, so that every attachment to the psychological, their emotions, hopes, imagination, intellectual dualism, memory, et al. All attachment has been relinquished, so that love for God is now absolutely unconditional. as Catholics, there is no question that the prosperity gospel is in the end demonic, yet I still cannot say that their immortal souls are completely devoid of sanctifying grace. That must be left to God. God bless

We were not taught to think properly (logic). "If there is no mind before the human mind, we created our own minds" which is impossible and illogical. Imagine for thousands of years, philosophers are struggling to use their mind and falsely taught people how to think. The mind is a gift from God which is intangible, as many other things as life, love, compassion...etc. Along with thinking heavily based on our emotion, we think wrong all the time. Faith is believing in God that He is Truth, and all his words are true, (not some words are true, and some words are not.) It is outrage to see well known experts used the Bible and then say it is full of contradictions. There is no self-contradiction, error or heresy in the Bible.

The Catholic Church is really for those inactive Christians who want to "sit in a pew and let the priest do everything." The old days of people automatically following their parents' religion is over. Young people stop going to church once they move from the family home. It was truly "lack of education" that guided people to the Catholic Church. The priest was educated and people felt comfortable "sitting in a pew and letting their priest do everything. Now, most people are educated and our young people are not only educated, but unlike their parents, are NOT fearful about morality and God. Most Catholics are fearful people who love the habit-forming ways of their priests who actually encourage people to: kneel and stop being active Christians and let their priest dominate them and do everything for them. Meanwhile the Jesus focus becomes less and less in the Catholic Church and the focus becomes more and more: liturgy, catechisms, sacramentals: like candles, incense, hosts, baptismal fonts, rosaries, holy pictures, etc. Meanwhile Jesus was really non-biblical and preached to the people He met at their level. The Catholic Church is really an Old Testament Church. To say that the Catholic Church is a medieval religion is an understatement!!!
