From the Sharpening Bench: Case Slimline Trapper -- Nicely Done!

Here's a quick look at a really well made traditional knife from Case. This is the Slimline Trapper, and it's in for sharpening from my buddy Campfiretalk. With it's working class Delrin covers and plain carbon steel blade, this is sort of an Old School Case, and boy did they get it right! Check it out...

I have two Case knives and they both have sharp blades from one end to the next. One is a pocket knife, and the other is the fixed blade hunting knife. I love them both and will have them until death due to their quality. Both are in my collection with other knives I have mostly purchased within the last two to three years. I want to get the folding hunter next from them and add it to my collection also.

Never had a bad case knife yet, and I've got a jigged brown delrin 61048 on it's way. The CV 31048 was tempting and it's the first time I've ever chosen stainless over Carbon when given the choice, but there's something about the as ground finish and Jigged brown delrin that I liked. Reminds me of the 70's 2 dot's.

Ill tell ya id rather break down cardboards an things with a slippie like this than most of the overbuilt moderns anyday, they seem to zip through material, my grandpa had it figured long ago with his peanut he carried everyday.

CampfireTalk I was actually surprised how easily that tip took shape. The CV blades might not be quite as rounded as the Tru-Sharp ones. This thing is a beauty!!!

They now have the case kickstart trapperlock, same thing as the trapperlock but assisted opening and a pocket clip. I absolutely love mine, was waiting years for them to come out with this exact knife.

Nice knife. I always did like the yellow handles on the Case trappers, to be a synthetic. I don't know why Case offers very few patterns in the carbon steel, when everyone is screamin' for 'em. I have that knife in the 2 blade version with red bone circa '65 to '69. That was a pleasant video for an old classic pattern. ( Package coming very soon buddy, I got a little side tracked. :-)

I love the Slimline Trapper but don’t feel it gets the love it deserves IMO it’s a great value and a good alternative to the medium toothpick because the medium toothpicks at least Case ones aren’t always available in much other than exotic materials Slimline Trappers are a similar size and profile and run the gamut of materials and price Now to find a decent belt sheath Thanks for a nice review

Any maker who doesn’t want the shields to fall off. To my knowledge, there’s only one production knife company who still does this - Great Eastern Cutlery.

I have this one and i like it.However the CV rusts the moment it smells water and fruits near by.

@@richregan8911 cut a apple and leave the juice on the blade for a few minutes then wipe off the blade with a damp cloth.

Hi Rob, I have been checking out your vids on the Apex for some tips. Nice job. I dont know if you have a vid or maybe plan on one, but was wondering about a vid on the Apex stone re-leveling process. Didnt know if you could video it next time you go to do that. Also wondering "about" how long your stones are lasting between re-leveling? i know this can vary. thanks

Street Flow Definitely hollow. I wouldn’t have detailed my sharpening setup for the hollow grind if it were a flat grind.

Its a stain....not a patina...carbon at surface is a patina.
