Aaron knows exactly what to do with a Les Paul in his hands. As a fellow Les Paul man, I can appreciate that.

For me, those settings are much better. Brighter and less gain. The beautiful harmonics are allowed to bloom more. Nothing wrong with those who like more gain and a the top shaved off. This is just more to my taste. And again, I like Aarons style. Great player.

That's gotta be the cleanest one. Like the cleanest burst ever. Holy hell. Even with that repair.

As much as I like the very flamey 3D type bursts, I love the more understated, subtly flamed bursts with mineral streaks on a honey or lemon fade.
@chuckyz24 жыл бұрын
I prefer the plain tops too. I've heard they sound better. But never having 1 of each, I will just have to believe it is true. And they are cheaper! Love the flamed ones too. The over the top flamed ones are, well....over the top. My taste may just have evolved that way because I am not rich.
@stuartmacdonald53614 жыл бұрын
Most 58 and 59 bursts are plain tops, truth is a flame top burst is not the norm, rather an anomaly. Typically, in that era they had no such thing as book match tops. Many bursts that do have figured tops tend to have one side plain and one figured.
@qua77713 жыл бұрын
@@stuartmacdonald5361 With hard eastern maple, figuring is more rare, than western big leaf. To add to the relative scarcity, flat sawn maple shows the figuring better than quarter sawn. Apparently, Gibson chose lumber for its properties rather than its esthetics.

Fantastic neck sounding pickup. Fantastic sounding guitar overall. The amp sounded good. Less “gain-ey” than previous outings and I could hear the Guitar’s character more.

Thank you for those great videos. Planning to buy one in the near future, I live in Europe, but I'll make sure to visit you when the time's right. By the way, I still remember an early '60 or 59, not sure right now, that you sold a few years ago, still have it in my records. That particular example still "haunts" me to this very day. Great faded top, perfect weight (from my experience with vintage/Custom Shop examples 9lbs give or take a few seems to be the "magic" number)

Gorgeous Les Paul with great tone as expected! You might consider adding a few more chords in future demos. Constant single note playing doesn't always do the guitar justice...at least to my ears.

Maybe I didn’t catch it, but doesn’t that guitar weigh about 30lbs? I played a very beat up vintage Paul once. I never forgot how heavy it was.

For the most part yes but I can't help but feel theres something just slightly unique to the tone, but that's probably my brain messing with me.

My opinion is that the players who are really into guitars, playing, collecting etc, the hunt and dreaming of the next guitar never ends. If you have the $$ then the vintage stuff becomes parts of that enjoyment of chasing the next guitar even though they all sound good. They just get bored with them and move on to the next girlfriend oops guitar. I know this from personal experience. The chase is the fun. Like a dog with sticks.
@Guvnor5134 жыл бұрын
Some of those guitars seem to have this snap to the tone that seems hard to replicate. Greg Koch refers to it as a ‘’tele on steroids.’’

@paulcartwright28104 жыл бұрын
Me too but if I'd just paid a small fortune on one I'm sure I'd pretend that you can tell there is difference....otherwise I'd feel daft...its all snobbish tbf...I've got a newish les paul junior (it's one of the good ones mind you...that's pretty much vintage spec made for especially for some weird reason the Japanese market in 2016 )and it's as well made and sounds very very similar as my mates 50s one...minus the cool beat up vibe that the old one has...he got his in 1980s when they were normally priced ...and he agrees...he wouldn't swap his for mine though...lol...he says "never mind yours will look like mine in 50 years " I'm like "yeah I'll be 103 then"...
