@@SASUKE-ARYAN Dhoni 103 test matches at number 7 with an average of 30.54. Gilchrist 100 test matches at number 7 with an average of 46.45, with 12 centuries at number 7, that's literally DOUBLE his nearest competitor. DOUBLE. In the entire history of test cricket. Dhoni has only 2 at number 7. No one is even close to gilly from this position, because no one else can make those scores from that late in the game. Dhonis average goes up to 38.09 when you look at his runs from all positions, because he was playing as early as number 3 which gave him the time to work up a decent innings without as much risk. If you take into account Gillys scores from other positions (sometimes 6) he has 17 hundreds with an average of 47.6. Imagine if he started at 3 like Dhoni has and had time to get himself in and craft innings after innings without having to rush. His average would probably be mid 50s with another 10 hundreds on the books. In the history of the game only 2 players who had the majority of their innings at number 7 had an average of just above 40 over their careers. There were times when gilly was over 50. He is hands down the best Batsman who wicket kept ever.

He took over indian side during one of their darkest ever days and made them into world beaters, revolutionized cricket, he is Mr replaceable in Indian team. I admire Gilchrist but for me Dhoni followed closely by Gilly are two of the greatest wicket keeper batsman ever.

@@syedwaqarahmed5963 I dont think we were world beaters. Literally lost all test in england australia new zealand south africa, lost to pakstan in home odi. We were good at icc events for sure. By cricketing skills it has to be gilchrist, if you need to go by complete team player dhoni might be getting this one.
@hariw8344 жыл бұрын
It is great to know that Glichrist completely rewrote the way wicket keepers are viewed and valued in an international team. A pure wicket keeper with a test batting average hovering around 50 was unheard of in the world cricket till the emergence of Gilchrist. And his style of fast scoring and reliable hands behind the wicket laid template and set the high standard for future stars as Dhoni, Sangakkara, Bairstow etc.

Adam Gilchrist is My All Time Favourite Cricketer along with Rahul Dravid 17 100 as WKB batting at No 7 in Test Cricket with an average close to 50 with strike rate above 80. He had attained career best average of 62 as WKB. Among the Players who have scored more than 2000 runs only 27 players had attained more than 58 average they are 1. Don Bradman (AUS) 2. Garfield Sobers (WI) 3. Wally Hammond (ENG) 4. Herbert Sutcliffe (ENG) 5. Everton Weekes (WI) 6. Len Hutton (ENG) 7. Vivian Richards (WI) 8. Jack Hobbs (ENG) 9. Ken Barrington (ENG) 10. Neil Harvey (AUS) 11. Brian Lara (WI) 12. Dennis Compton (ENG) 13. Clyde Walcott (WI) 14. Adam Gilchrist (AUS) 15. Ricky Ponting (AUS) 16. Steve Smith (AUS) 17. Michael Hussey (AUS) 18. George Headley (WI) 19. Graeme Pollock (SA) 20. Sachin Tendulkar (IND) 21. Kumar Sangakkara (SL) 22. Matthew Hayden (AUS) 23. Rahul Dravid (IND) 24. Javed Miandad (PAK) 25. Greg Chappell (AUS) 26. Jacques Kallis (SA) 27. Sunil Gavaskar (IND) Kumar Sangakkara had attained average of more than 58 when he played as pure batsman. His average was 40 as WKB. Among all the 27 players who had attained career best average of 58 or more only Adam Gilchrist and Clyde Walcott are Wicketkeepers. Even Clyde Walcott played as pure batsman more often than not. This is an indication of how good Birthday Boy Adam Gilchrist was There are very rare batsman in cricket History who Combined Beauty , Aggressiveness , Stroke making , Technical Skills , Destructiveness , Temperament , Game Reading and an All Round Batting Artistry, and Adam Gilchrist is Exceptional among all the greats who have Graced the game itself. Adam Gilchrist is one of his own kind.

sandeep choura Sanga hardly avgd 40 as a keeper & mostly bashed the minnows. Gilly scored test tons mostly when it mattered. Sanga became a run machine post 2008 when he played just as a batsman, by the time which Gilly already retired. Gilly redefined the role and is the best ever.

Sometimes you have to stop, take a breath and just reminisce at how good this bloke was. Test debut in 1999 got 80 odd not out on debut, second test made 149 not out with arguably the greatest match saving partnership with Justin Langer against Pakistan with a bowling attack consisting of Wasim Akram, waqar younis, Shoaib ahktar and saqlain Mushtaq . He then never missed a test match from the day he was selected to the day he retired, to average 47 with 17 hundreds coming in at number 7 is absolutely ridiculous. Greatest wicket keeper batsman anyone alive today will ever see, and an even better bloke.
@SilentHotdog283 жыл бұрын
Probably the only WK who could be picked solely for their keeping or batting alone. He was that damned good in both roles that it's not funny, sure there were better pure Keepers than him and there were better batsmen who also kept wicket than him, but none were good enough to be picked for either role by itself. Greatest Keeper-batsman of all time by far.
