From the Vault: Original .44 Auto Mag Pistol

The first 5 of this new production design have been sent to their new owners just before Thanksgiving 2020; I should get mine soon, I hope. I have one of these from the TDE days - absolutely a blast to shoot. Loaded ammo is available (SBR Ammunition), brass (Starline) and of course is a pleasure to handload as most enthusiasts will attest.

In the current Video Game, “Rainbow 6: Siege”, the two Moroccan Operators in the game, Nomad & Kaid, use a scoped version of this pistol as their side arm. Impressive.

This gun was a great movie prop in Sudden Impact. In real life, they frequently jammed, or wouldn't go back into battery. Frequently - as in, all the time!!!!

I hunt with a handgun . . . a lot. I've always wanted one, but bought Freedom Arms whenever I had the money. Current Auto Mags are around 3,700.00. For those interested, a really good writer, now past, George Nonte wrote a book on handgun hunting. I his buddy had a lot of input on the book, and on the Auto Mag handgun, Lee Jurris (original Super Vel ammunition). The book is an enjoyable read for those interested.

Looks like it has some pitting on the right side from the original box foam rubber that dissolved and stuck to the guns when they were stored in them too long. I cleaned two of them for a friend who inherited them. One cleaned up fairly well, the other was very pitted. Amazing design. I didn’t get the chance to shoot them; no ammunition was available to me at that time.

Nope. Charles Bronson had a Wildey 475 magnum pistol, another high powered stainless powerhouse similar to the 44 Auto mag.
