From Thrift to Gift

I like to come up with creative ideas for things that I have thrifted. Whether they are newly Thrifted, or ‘downstairs in my basement waiting to be gifted’ thrifted. Hi, Linda. Yes, I will wear my jeans repeatedly during the week, so much so that my family jokes that my jeans will start walking themselves lol 😂. A personal thing that i do to keep them fresh is after day 1 of wearing them i will wear a panty liner for the other days i wear the same jeans. It definitely helps extend their shelf life for the week.

I have 2 of those thrifted Downton Abby-esque pitchers in copper and glass with their original warmer holder thingies (chafing dish?). I think they were originally intended for coffee or tea, but I love the idea of using them for water with lemon or cucumber slices! 🥰

I save my glass OUI yogurt containers. Then wash, fill with kosher salt and rosemary from my huge bush in my front yard. It makes a great meat rub. Cover the top with a thrift square of fabric and tie with a ribbon and a label. This idea would work for any small thrifted glass with a cork.

I use a fancy china gravy bowl with attached under plate to hold all my hair ties and hair clips on my bathroom vanity. My mom gave me these odd pieces of dish ware years ago and I finally decided to put some pieces to use and donate the rest. It’s a nice reminder of her.

You can use crystal desert dishes or egg cups and fill with Easter eggs for the Easter table. One year I used small clear containers and put fresh tulips in each lined up down the table. Looks so nice.

I used crystal sherbet glasses at Christmas and put bottle trees in each one at each place setting and added a small cranberry wine goblet with a tea light in it at each place setting too. Looked really wonderful on my Christmas dining table.

Great ideas Linda! I use the hyacinth type vases for chex mix, nuts, candies and things of that sort. It's great because guests can pour the desired amount into their hand and it prevents the "digging" some people do in a bowl of treats. I use a vintage vase for toothbrushes in the medicine cabinet and a vintage planter on the bedside table to corral hand cream, pad of paper, pencil etc.

I have a pitcher like the pitcher you would like to use for water. It is made by Corning (mark is inside the neck). It came with a stand it sits on above a warming tray to hold a candle I guess. I used it on the table at a tea party.

I pickup beautiful vases, pitchers, trinket dishes, clear and colored glass. Been collecting milk glass vases to put on wedding tables with one flower and babies breath. I love repurposing. This week I found an old hand made basket, rather big that you can put cut flowers from the garden in. It is beautiful.

I repurposed some straight -sided chunky glass vases to fill with small shells collected during beach trips. I can enjoy looking at them all year, especially when there is snow on the ground. Another of my favorite repurposed items is a mini turquoise lidded Pyrex fridgie which I use on my dresser to contain hair clips. Definitely wear my jeans multiple times before washing! Some very good ideas, Linda. I just can’t throw away glass jars. My daughter (who lives with me) on the other hand tosses every in recycle. I reuse my jars for all kinds of things. When I make almond butter…I want glass not plastic. I buy a lot of different grains and seeds….they go in my jars. I buy dried fruit….store in glass jars. Today I’m roasting red la rouge peppers and garlic….glass jar with olive oil. The ones that are straight up and down are especially useful. Oh for the good old days when everything came in glass! My daughter buys Oui yogurt in those small jars. Pity they don’t have a cover that’s reusable. I’m thinking they must be heat tempered glass and would make good votive candle holders. If not, a tea light with a little water in the bottom would keep it from cracking. Love those tonic bottles…..and all your little treasures.

I use multiple hyacinth vases for rooting various plants on my window sill. Makes a long, cold winter a little brighter! I also use small saucer plates, and/or tiny bowls as key & change holders at my homes entrances.

Loved that 2nd vessel (you talked of putting fresh drinking water in) I have a new love for those types of things, old "fancy" decanters and such , I fill them with water and place on the tray with my diffusers and current choice essential oils ! Makes refilling the diffuser each morning , so much easier and really elevates the look . Really enjoyed this! So many great ideas!

the little dome over the chocolates are actually candle cups that go into an iron chandelier type candelabra. the ends have iron circles that the cups sit in and sort of float over the tablle. I currently have 5 of them. they are gorgeous

I bought an inexpensive set of diamond drill bits off of Amazon and use it to drill holes in tiny teacups or demitasse cups and fill with succulents or succulent cuttings. They fit nicely on my windowsill. I use the bits on pretty bowls as well as any ceramic pot that needs a hole for proper drainage.

My mother-in-law who is 90, has a teacup wooden display case hanging in her home and it is filled with beautiful teacups that I love to admire. The black rod iron candelabra has a very Restoration Hardware vibe to it, and I love how you will use it with the succulents. My husband and I live in the foothills of Boulder, CO and our boys live in downtown Denver too; they love living there😀. LOVE your plum colored blazer and yes, I do recognize the Marshall Fields brand. Wonderful video. I love thrifting and reusing all sorts of found items. I’ve been thrifting for years. Yes, I wear my jeans more than one day, as I find I change clothes a lot and I might only have them on 3 hrs at a time. I liked the tea cup idea, I have a sweet one with a girl on the side that belong to my mother in law and I guard it in a cabinet, but maybe I could actually use it!

I bought a really lovely pitcher and I have water in it to drink everyday in my apartment. I have also done the same at the house. The thing that makes me drink more water is this together with a beautiful special glass. Right now I have an old beautiful martini glass. I feel soo much better ( special) when I drink this way instead of an old waterbottle. 🥰

I love metallic urns. I like the stainless pitcher too. Your idea of granola being gifted the perfect idea. Subconsciously get some one on a healthy breakfast routine. Big Lots has a great selection of your favorite Epsom salts. I notice how much you enjoy your wreath. Hearts , shamrocks tucked in could extend your wreath for months. Hi Linda, I loved all you repurpose ideas!! I love the fact that you wear all your clothes! This is a problem I have.... I only wear dress clothes for when I want to look good and therefore, they hardly get used!! I usually wear junk clothes (rags actually) for cleaning and gardening. Therefore, they always get used!!! Love all your shows Linda.!! I got at the thrift store 3 different drinking glasses.. And I got at one of the supermarkets 3 small orchid plants they were discounted.. Really inexpensive ones.. Then I also got a small garden planter made out of metal.. Painted in kind of beige color.. And I fit them in there I put them on top of an antique white painted table I got a few years ago.. Love your outfit. Necklace is beautiful. Small blue and white bowls I love to eat berries or ice cream out of them. I thrifted some berry bowls my cat drinks her water. Looks nice on the kitchen floor. The upside down vase use E6000 and glue a large marble for a handle or a crystal rock. Hyacinth container. One year I added fine gravel and small grape hyacinth bulbs inside and they were so delicate and pretty. I couldn't give them away. I seem to re-gift to myself. Thanks for video. Yes I do wear my jeans every day for a week. On a 7-10 day trip I can take 4 pairs of dark jeans or slacks and save packing room. So wish we had a Trader Joe’s in our town. Closest one is an hour away 😢.

The glass container is Princess House. It has a metal base it sits in that you can put a votive under the carafe to keep coffee warm. I also have a tray with mine that the carafe sits on and a hand blown sugar and creamer to sit next to it. I use to sell Princess house crystal in the early 90’s and still have quite a collection.

Floral clay would adhere that potted orchid to the glass and then moss could be pressed around it--I wouldn't have thought of putting an orchid in a decorative glass, but I love the idea.

I found some beautiful MIkasa lead crystal vases at Goodwill cheap and felt like I found gold. Love putting flowers in them and that I could give them away with flowers and not have spent a fortune.

Linda, I have the second decanter with the silverplate. It goes with a beautifully styled silverplate basket stand with a shelf for a votive candle. I use it for hot teas, wassail, or hot lemonade. The set is very ornate with pretty legs on the stand.
