I have a 450. Those saws have a tendency to flood quickly. When they say to prime 6 times, they mean exactly 6 times. When you're on a cold start with the choke on, the pull that makes it want to turn over...Then flip the switch to turn off the choke. It'll fire right up. If flooded, hold down the fuel trigger (I tape mine down), with the chain break on... and keep pulling (without the choke on) to un-flood it. My new favorite channel.
@jamesfarley51832 жыл бұрын
on hot soak, crankcase & carb r full of vapor but carb. may be lo/empty of liquid fuel. cyl. above piston may or may not have vapor depending on piston position. 2-5 full throttle pulls clears out vapor, then may need to prime/ choke to refill carb./ crankcase. on cranking a crankcase w fuel turns easier than no fuel due to crankcase pressure aiding pull.

Great job and an honest reason behind your mistakes, great to hear and see. I do the same thing in the UK, it's normal for people to ask me can you repair this. I say yes, scratch my head and cram on, no failures yet.
@rkeround2itindustries8924 жыл бұрын
I was told, by my Husky repair shop, the bleed valve is just to lessen the compression when the temp is so cold that it is hard to pull the cord. The cold affects the oil-less bearing surfaces. I was also told that after it tries to fire, un-choke the carb, and it should start up and run within 2 pulls. The first pull removes the excess fuel, and the second puts the right amount into the cylinder. On the newer saws, the primer button will automatically pump any excess fuel back into the tank. Husky listened to complaints. ou can now pump them all day long and not flood out the motor. Good job on the rebuild. The sound in a lot better. RKE.

I have a virtually new Husq 445 that has not run in 10+ years. Apparently it quit running because of cheap gasoline. Obviously I changed the spark plug, gas filter and cleaned the air filter, but it only ran with the choke on. I watched your video, paused it frequently, and did a step by step to remove my carburetor, spray it down with carb cleaner, and then reinstalled it. This did not work at first, but several hours later the chainsaw started up on the first pull. - The next test will be taking it out back and seeing how it works. - I have another Husq that does not start well. I am going to do the same thing with that one. - Thank you very much for this video. I am not a mechanical guy, but at 65 years of age and semi-retired I figured it was time to learn.

You cant flood it with a purge ball. You can pump it a 100 times. IT does not inject fuel into the carb. It just pulls fuel thru the carb and back to the tank. You have something in your carb leaking if its getting into the cylinder.
@jamesfarley51832 жыл бұрын
correct. purge bulb creates vaccumn inside metering area on both h/lo jets keeping fuel out of crankcase but allows air from lo jet and if def. from hi jet ck. valve to enter metering area w fuel. #1 start,no primer , full/no choke carb w fast idle cam=5-7 full choke pulls. full choke pulls fuel tru hi jet from tank ,then choke off 3-5 pulls,repeat if necessary. seldom have 1/2 choke choice. #2 primer w fast idle cam & full /1/2 choke carb.= prime, 1pull full choke then 1/2 choke 2-3 pulls, repeat if necessary. #3 primer w full on/ full off choke & fast idle cam = prime w 2-3 pulls full choke, then choke full off 2-5 pulls. repeat as required. choke full on w full carb easily floods.

HEY, i just put a carb and "Purge" bulb on a Husq445 LAST WEEK, had the same problem! I had the fuel lines on the back of the bulb REVERSED! The purge bulb is a "one way valve" like a check valve, if you have the lines reversed, the bulb wont pump any fuel AND fuel will be dumping out your exhaust when its running. I was super careful to get mine right but somehow i still reversed them. Swap those lines on the primer bulb and see if your problem is fixed. By the way, it is a "purge" bulb, not a primer bulb. You cannont flood the engine no matter how many times you push it. Try switching those lines on the back of the bulb.

both issues can be caused by mysterious hi jet ck valve defect letting air pressure into metering area , less at hi rpms but compensated for by more opening of hi jet. at start of idle fuel mix is ok but as more air pressure,14.7 lbs at sea level pushes into metering area from def, hi ck, diaph. raises shuts off fuel needle adding air to replace/ mix w. fuel causing increasing starve out at idle. not usually replaceable seperately, replace carb. can be cked w vac./ pressure pump on fully assembled carb. if interested inquire in a reply.

I had one since new in 09. It’s had lots of hours mostly cutting brush, clearing fence lines, cutting cedars for fence post, ect. It idles a lot while dragging and stacking the limbs. A couple months ago it died and wouldn’t restart. I put a new carb on it but no luck. Decided tonight to give it another go so long story short, blew compressed air through the impulse line, more like a passage through the intake boot into the case. After a couple tries something broke loose. I could tell the passage was free cause it pressurized the case to where the saw couldn’t be pulled over. Put it all together and it fired with just a few pulls.

Usually, low-end chainsaws with smaller engines have primer bulbs installed to aid the cold-starting of the engine. Saws having engines larger than 40 or 50cc do not have this feature. Another important function of primer bulbs is purging off the air trapped in the fuel line that connects the fuel tank with the carburetor. The air gets sucked out from the line and back into the fuel tank by pressing the bulb. Hence, the fuel flow to the carburetor gets easier. Due to this reason, primer bulbs are also called purge bulbs.

Little story. I own a 445 first saw I've owned. And has been my go to for almost 10 years having other options like stihl. I bought it because my girlfriend at the time now wife had an outdoor wood boiler and after 6 years of weekend wood cutting. we moved and ended up with propane heat. This saw only gave me 1 trouble with the plastic pawls that catch and I could still start it with the 3 pulls just needed to be careful. Overall I've abused this saw and asked more then needed and continue to this day and still starts with 3 to 4 pulls and doesn't ask any questions. My next saw if I ever have to get one will have quite the reputation to uphold.

I personally have never bought the ethanol hype. But we each have our own experiences and convictions. I've used ethanol fuel for 5 years in my 445 and the carb has never been off, and it always starts, runs and cuts like new. Only adjustment I had to make was while running the saw in -30°f weather. And the primer/purge bulb broke on a cold day as well. I've used up 3 chains in that time. So its burned plenty of ethanol. I have replaced plenty of carbs on small engines that had a history of running "ethanol free" gas. When I hear "carb was just cleaned" and "I ran ethanol free", I pretty much order a new carb on the spot, because without fail, a week after bringing it home it wont run, even if I splurge and spend the extra $0.40 a gallon for ethanol free. But I do live in "ethanol alley" so maybe that has something to do with it.

@mikemccabe13243 жыл бұрын
The 455 has a chain Oiler issue. It apparently had an adjustable Oiler and they moved to fixed. You can see the emboss on the case but no screwdriver adjust exists. It will drain chain oil just sitting in the box. When operating, the chain will go dry, will bind and if it’s loose will hop the sprocket and tear it up or come off and damage the chain. (Thus your observed torn up sprocket). I had it to the dealer shop under warranty and they said the channel in the bar to lube the chain was blocked preventing lubrication. No debris in the tank suction. However I believe since it leaks oil there is a lack of sufficient oil pressure and flow rate going to the bar. A friend has the same model with the same static oil leak. I’ve tried a new husqvarna bar and Oregon bar with no success. Without a solid chain Oiler you can kiss chain life goodbye. Damage your chain, bar and sprocket. It has plenty of power, cuts logs like butter but the Oiler flow rate and pressure in my opinion is undersized. Later learned that husqvarna chainsaws are now poulan? Contemplating an exhaust manifold port to the chain oil cap to increase tank pressure and improve Oiler input NPSH. Model airplanes use a muffler tap line to the fuel tank to pressurize the fuel system. Otherwise an electric peristaltic metering pump whose flow rate is determined by Hall effect sensor on the chain to sense speed to regulate flow. Button on the chainsaw handle to boost oiling rate just prior to a cut and at higher load halfway thru a cut.

on saws w vac.pump oilers the bar oil can drain into the piston area over time and lock up cyl. drain gas/ bar oil when storing to prevent next use problems.
@mikemccabe13242 жыл бұрын
@@jamesfarley5183 thanks. I have since seen a KZbin video where the oil system was removed. All oils cleaned from the tank to the pump and to the bar, and replaced, sealing each joint with silicone sealant and let dry for 24 hours before adding any oil to the system. Apparently gaps in the tubing system joints between the tank and the pump allows air intrusion and is more prevalent when the bar oil is cooler/ more viscous. Any gaps from the pump to bar tube will leak oil into the trough it lays in. That oil ends up in the box or on the floor hours later. My observation is that the tubing is injection molded and has mold marks. if the mold plastic is not carefully removed, it will allow a gap that allows air in the suction. This drastically affects Oiler proficiency. I’ll try that first. But out of the box the saw cut fine. I made 20 cuts on 18” old pine logs. 20” bar. There is a chamber below the oil tank and saw body that is big enough to fit an electric gear pump. Put a coil next to the flywheel and generate off the flywheel coil. Add a bridge rectifier. Some caps to smooth the voltage. A voltage regulator and A rheostat to regulate the gear oil pump volume based on saw motor rpm. Enough with the plastic clutch flywheel worm gear design that seems be susceptible to sawdust. The other idea is to do what model airplanes do for fuel supply. Add a tap to the muffler and tube some filtered pressurized exhaust into the oil chamber. This will improve oil pump Suction head pressure based on saw muffler pressure. A gear pump would be constant oil pressure vs the saw pump that actually pulses. Could also tee off the gear discharge out to the mill end and banjo bolt an oil supply at the bar tip. Just crank up the gear pump voltage regulator rheostat for more volume.
@jamesfarley51832 жыл бұрын
@@mikemccabe1324 I know nothing of this particular saw oil sys. but if one spends more time working on saw than using it why have it unless it's a do or die thing. look for simple basic things first, like gears drive pumps to cause suction in a vented tank w hoses connecting source/supply. heat from engine on sealed oil tank makes pressure w movement of chain across a bar hole aids oil flow from pump , a hide and seek job.

Do you allow a someone to contact you directly, by phone, message or email? I see that you could really help with my Husqvana 445 2909 ? or like the one in your video. When I remove the clutch plate cover the threaded bolt fell back into the case. How can I remove it, get to it? Sure hoping you can help. Should a person leave their contact email here?Thanks for any help
