Thanks for asking him about Mantronix. I was the one that asked about this. I never heard him talk about this part of his journey. I remember seeing him in the 'Got to you have your love' video and Naomi Campbell was in the video also.

Okay. Finally. Thanks Nnamdi, for this interview. It was worth the wait. Cool, he’s from Jamaica Queens, Brooklyn & Washington Heights (The Dominican district). Cool, he likes the same producer I favored, Kyle West. No offense to Teddy. I admired him second. Island origin & 80’s crack era. From Mantronix!. Andrew Jackson high school, okay!.

TR should take offense he's a household name that changed the Game! Most people don't even know who Kyle West is even if they own In Effect Mode & are from the New Jack Swing era 🤷‍♂

@@The_Pause_Tape_KING True That. But I’m betting that Mr “New Jack Swing” TR knows what I mean. But Kyle, to me, is an example where u don’t have to be known to be good. Even West, though he & Eddie F both good production wise, their time ran out. But, believe it or not, Donell Jones, with Neo Soul, saved Kyle, for a time. So, u gotta agree, they’re all part of musical 🎤 🎵🎵🎼 history!.

Kyle West was a student of Teddy Riley so they all give Teddy the respect first. Kyle West had a different style

@@HalftimeChat Yes. Exactly. But Teddy created a monster where Kyle didn’t want to cop him entirely, but instead he would branch out to have his own style. Just like Prince influenced The Time, where he created a monster with them, where they became a musical force to reckon with!. I like the fact that they wouldn’t cookie cut, but would be built their own way, kind of like a Chuckii Booker.👍🏾

Funny, I went to August Martin (would've been classmates with Bryce had he gone to class LOL) and it wasn't much better than Jackson! lol

I'm shocked that you never even heard of Mantronix, that's not a good look! He was one of the greatest versatile multi- talented producers ever in the Hip Hop, Electronica, & R&B/Pop genres. But didn't have longevity because he dropped out of the music industry in the early 90's saying he was burned out. He's only been living in London since the early 2000's lol. You should familiarize yourself with his work from 1985 to 1990. Here's a recent interview: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqrGfqKknLiIosU

Thanks for sending through the interview. Yes, I hadn't heard of them but definitely their hits. My interview strengths are focusing on the person behind the music and not so much the music unless it's Teddy Riley 😅

@@HalftimeChat ok I should've more specifically stated Kurtis Mantronik himself, he was the genius behind the music. Mantronix is the name he created for the group using his last name minus the K & adding the X. But the majority of people when referring to him personally just call him Mantronix.

Typical NY attitude about hip hop and everything in the world, to be honest. They think everything starts and ends with NY - that arrogance is why many folks despise NY. Was a fan until these videos revealed he falls into this same arrogance - he actually seems to continue the belief. Shoutout to Halftime
