The stripping, the dyeing in multiple layers and the final shine... See the entire process here. We take a Walnut Cornwallis from Allen Edmonds and transform it to a burnished Navy Blue. This video is a little bit longer since I didn't edit out as much. Hopefully you will enjoy seeing a little bit more of the process. As always feel free to reach out with any questions or to ask about getting a pair done for yourself.

@@gerryaustin8687 Yes that could be done but I would go much less black. Try it on the toe or tongue or heel first to test the color. A 50/50 would basically come out black with no visible blue I think.

I start the video and smash the like button. I always know it will be excellent work! I like your technique of adding the lotion to get rid of the sheen. From there are you going straight to dye again? I would think the dye wouldn't hold to the leather with conditioner on it. Thank you in advance for your reply!

@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc 3 жыл бұрын
I have not used Saphir 1928 cream before. I have used renovateur and it works great but is rather expensive and pulls off more dye. I like renovateur on pairs maybe 3 months after a patina when they get some wear on them. For during the patina bick 4 disrupts the dye the least and thats why I use it. I don't think its a better conditioner but it works great for patina work.

What’s the main big brush you use in your videos for applying dye, is it a specific shaped brush?
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. I am usually using an e.l.f. makeup brush. It's a foundation brush and runs about $2-3. I like it better than the craft store paint brushes I was using. I haven't invested in anything more expensive since I haven't seen the need to.

thank you for this great video - I am looking to dye a pair of walnut colored brogues to achieve a similar look - lighter though on the high parts and navy in the brogue punching- which is what led me to your video - do you offer that service or have any tips for DIY? thanks again!
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc 3 жыл бұрын
I do offer this as a service and you can email mbshoedoc@gmail.com. You certainly could try it yourself but when first getting started I would recommend doing a brown accent patina on walnut or walnut to oxblood first as they are much easier. Blue is tricky because going light on top of the yellow walnut gives green. Then as you darken it up to cover the green it can easily get too dark and look almost black. Blue is definitely a bit more tough to start with I feel.

What are suit colours to wear with navy shoes?

Good question. I think it looks great with all grey tones and could work with navy blue suits as well but I prefer the contrast with grey. Tans and olive tones also could work but again grey is the safe bet.

Thanks so much my friend. I like to use either Saphir mirrorgloss or Pure Polish high shine to build a base for a mirror shine but neither actually gives the best high shine. The last step is to use a wax with more solvent to melt and smooth the top layer for the highest shine. I often use Saphir PDL for this but Carmina sent these polished for me to try and I absolutely love them!! Hope that helps.

Well I am truly sorry to hear you feel that way. I spent a great deal of time creating a custom patina here. My methods and techniques are my own but naturally there will be similarities with anyone else doing this. There will also be similarities in videography as there are only so many ways to film a patina. I could zoom out and do full body but prefer not to (shorts and ratty t shirt are not too impressive on video). Basically either you can get entertainment or information from my videos or not but I don't think anything I am doing here takes away from anyone else doing similar work.
