I went to smugglers cove two weeks ago. The bartender was talking about you coming in and asking great questions that were very specific. I didn't bring you or the channel up, I just ordered the updated fluffy banana cocktail, which was amazing. Small world. Oh yeah, fyi, John mulaney is hilarious live. Especially after 4 cocktails from smugglers cove.

This is a great cocktail and I do like guava in cocktails (yes, even the Guava Tai at Trader Vic's).

“Which I don’t want to do [use Malibu]. I’m not advising you to do that.” Truer words have never been spoken, Derek! 😂

I know you’ve done several Disney cocktails, but if you’re looking for more, the Port Orleans resorts had something called a Nola Cola that would be fun on your frozen channel

This is one of the best Tiki drinks ever , if you have a tropical sweet tooth ... Also variance like using rum coconut RumChata , even coconut milk passion fruit juice, or apricot juice instead of the guava. I've even tried with tangerine , oh it's yummy 😋

You got me into tiki drinks! I have two of the tiki mugs from Polynesian Village that I found at a vintage shop (they had like 12 of them 😮). I use them when I make your version of the trader Vic’s Mai Tai. I love how you show the history of stuff and I love the cinematography. Great work man thank you

Amen on cream of coconut / coconut cream / coconut syrup / coconut whatever fatigue. I'm sticking with Real and that's that.

Exactly. A consistent, shelf-stable, cost-effective, easy to get product, and one less thing I have to make and stock myself. I’ll take it.

Every time I see coconut called for, I have to research what exactly the author means. I am so on board with a standard definition. Great video as always!

I've made the Smuggler's Cove version of this drink and it was delicious! Definitely sweet and crushable, very Disney, would drink again.

I personally get a can of coconut cream, pour that into a saucepan, and then fill that can up with sugar and then pour that into the saucepan and simmer it until the sugar gas dissolved. I then end up with something that tastes exactly like Coco Lopez. That is all.

I’m so glad you did a video for this! I recently discovered this in the Smuggler’s Cove book and have made it a couple of times. I sought out the Bundaberg Guava soda just to make this. I definitely have to scale back the CoC on it, or it’s just too sweet for my tastes, but otherwise it’s a favorite of ours and I absolutely love the color.

The original would probably be perfect for a rum like Coconut Cartel. Also, fun fact about the Contemporary: in 1973, the Associated Press Managing Editors Association meeting was held at the Contemporary’s Ballroom of the Americas, and Richard Nixon was invited for a Q&A. During the Q&A he gave his famous “I am not a crook” speech.

This the rare cocktail where I actually prefer the original to the SC version. Something about the guava nectar/ coconut rum (I use Koloa) combo does it for me. Either way, I do my best to ignore the amount of sugar in both the nectar and soda 😅

I’m with you brother! 1.Cream of Coconut! 2. Let’s standardize at 50 Brix. Start the petition I’ll sign. Interested to see if CocoLopez has dropped brix. I have noted the consistency thinner lately.

I've been doing a 1:1 coconut milk and Coco Lopez lately and combining per cocktail.

I was tired of all the coconut crème creamy coconut syrup of cocoa nut etc. before I even made a drink with it, WHICH I did not. SO, as a fan of simplifying and shelf stability and ABV, I use coconut cream liqueur as a substitute in every recipe that calls for coconut something. Call me a barbarian but all the ones I made taste good to me.

You could use Koloa Coconut Rum to give a good punch of flavor…at $35 a bottle though use sparingly

Yeah, standardizing on coconut "stuff" (cream of coconut) would be nice, it just makes so much work for us cocktail lovers. That said, marketing people love niches and profusions of products and all that...

My vote is 1:1 coconut milk syrup.
@markcalhoun82194 күн бұрын
coconut water + sugar = coconut syrup, coconut milk + sugar = cream of coconut, coconut cream + sugar = sweetened condensed coconut all 50 brix, solved.

Kinda off topic but...what is the "flame" lantern seen on the extreme left (your right) of the video? Is it a lantern with Integral bulb or a separate screw in LED bulb? Please share details. It looks very convincing on camera. 😊

How much sugar do i need to add to a 400ml can of coconut milk to get to 50 brix? In a side by side taste test I've found that the Aroy-D coconut milk is the best flavor right out of the can. Each 400ml can of Aroy-D coconut milk only has 2g total sugar.
@makeanddrink4 күн бұрын
You need to make it equal parts sugar to coconut milk by weight an account for the sugar already in your coconut milk

I must be one of those unfortunates that find guava fruit/juice/nectar pretty much flavorless. I'm guessing the guava soda has other flavors to give it some.. well um flavor. I'll have to give that try.
