Carving Surf School Hostel www.carvingsurfschool.com/
Great hostel: clean, cool and comfortable atmosphere, and delicious (& huge!) breakfast! A few km outside of Muros de Nalon (in San Estaban de Pravia).

They are going to build the bridge but not where the castle is but in the town that is on the other side of San Esteban which is bigger with a huge beach etc... The problem is that it has to be a drawbridge for the sailboats.

On my last Camino I was told that you are not a real pilgrim if you don't get lost at least once. 😊 Having covered that (more than once😉) have you considered using gps tracks on your phone so you don't have to rely on yellow arrows? I found them extremely helpful. And regarding blisters (it really hurts even listening about them) this lady has some really good advice (not sponsored!😇): www.youtube.com/@Blister-Prevention I sooo enjoyed your vlogs, just keep them coming! I hope I"m doing del Norte next spring. ¡Buen Camino!🐌👣

I highly recommend anyone to skip the Camino here and instead do the Senda Norte from Aviles to Muros de Nalon, which goes along the coast. It was one of the most beautiful days I spent on the Norte.

albergues or even restaurants sometimes missuse the arrow for commercial reasons. and there are also different alternative routes. i experienced it too. so don’t forget to check gps from time to time

We saw those arrows too, but we were never mislead by that, but we were walking sick ,one moment of not paying attention and we end up in a wrong city haha! Thank God, Ellie has data all the time so we were able to get back on track!

@@ellieandsenci yeah, i mean, this walking into trance and forgetting about the arrows is also nice.

I think in some instances that trail has been changed IRL but the guidebooks/updates haven't been updated. Sometimes albergues also put some yellow arrows out to lure you towards their accommodation... I also bought new footwear in Gijon *high-5*

Yeah exactly sometimes the guidebooks and even gronze is not updated so we are just trying to update people with the latest changes from the trail in 2023! The albergues usually had small "a" above or under their arrows on del Norte so they were transparent with that there, we didn't have any issues! Gijon has a lot of stores for hiking, we also purchased some socks there, $16 for a pair, but i must say it was much better investment then comped every 3 days!

You missed a good walk between Gijon and Aviles. Yes, somewhat industrial, yet that is what drives these local economies. Some pilgrims take a bus from Deva (the camping spot as you desend from the hills) to Aviles and skip Gijon altogether. The last 6kms of unban sproul into Gijon are no worse than the bits of industry you'll find on the walk from Gijon. You do walk through forest as well in to Aviles. There is a lot of 'ugly' on the Norte, and some choose to bypass that. No judgment from me. My suggestion is to walk the whole Camino.

That’s good to know! Totally agree, if a pilgrim has plenty of time to walk, it would be best to do it in its entirety, but we had to skip some days to make it to Santiago before our Schengen zone visas expired. Our guidebook recommended skipping since it’s more industrial and we had already experienced a few industrial days. But we’re glad we didn’t skip over gijon! It’s a great city to experience

Hike your own hike. Gijon to Aviles is the ugliest, most polluted section of Spain. I don't blame anyone for skipping it.

Wow, that place was great for 40 euros! Hoping to hike a Camino route next year (Cornwall Coastal Path this year). Del Norte is still my first preference, but I really do appreciate your honest assessment of it, especially the road walking. Like I say, its still my first choice, but Camino Portuguese might have edged a little closer! :) I use Band-Aid blister cushions (admittedly not so cheap) to prevent blisters; don't know if you can get them over there?

It was amazing, they are so welcoming, everything is clean and we didn't mention it in video but the breakfast was included as well, and it was personalised breakfast, with fresh croissants, fresh coffee, orange juice,etc.. Thank you, we always try to give our honest opinion about everything as a first timers, no sugarcoating, because you are dedicating 30-40 days for the trail, you deserve to know how everything is! We had blister cushions too, but nothing helped for Ellie, it was when we got open foot sandals that things started looking better, thank you for your help and worry, appreciate it so much, and Buen Camino!

How did those sandals work out. I’m currently on the on the norte day 10 and the blisters are out of control. Considering sandals instead

YES! GO FOR IT! It was such a relief for Ellie, wearing sandals all the time, but the quality ones like Teva (they were a big pricey, but it's worth it). Ellie had constant blister along the trail and getting the sandals, brought them to a minimum, almost none by the end! We also purchased the hiking socks in Gijon which were 16€ a pair, but those helped so much too! Would highly recommend sandals, Ellie was even wearing them through mud and constant rain, because it helped her so much. Buen Camino, hope you get better, where there is will there is power!
