It should be worth noting that if Sony doesn't acquire Kadokawa, Kakao (a South Korean internet conglomerate) and Tencent are breathing down their necks as well. Hell, there's another rumor going around that this is all happening because Kadokawa approached Sony themselves to help prevent a hostile company takeover from Kakao. Now in my opinion, Sony is the lesser evil of the other 2 companies and is why it seems the Japanese government is okay with this move because the last thing they want is for a foreign company to have this much power in the anime/manga entertainment business. Obviously, best case scenario is that Kadokawa remains where they stand, but that won't be happening with the founding family gone. Someone is getting them either way.

Here's what people don't get about the whole situation. Independence for Kadokawa is not happening. There are already reports that Kakao a South Korean company and Tencent are talking about a hostile takeover. So your option is Kadokawa can stay in Japan with a company they have a long relationship with, or they go to Korea or China... is that really better or what people want? Personally I don't like this deal. I feel like Kadokawa should be its own thing.... They own soo much stuff related to manga / light novels / magazines, publishing houses, movie studios, anime studios... Also Bookwalker (one of the largest Japanese + international way to purchase digital manga / light novels / magazines). The thing is a studio is the people working at it, not its name. Just look at Bio-ware and its recent releases without any of the core members of the original team. Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team if they so chose could easily move on and form their own team that I'm sure would be successful. For me any game his team release interests me. Tbh, I highly doubt they'd take revenue away from the PC market because the games they release are far too big like COD. If its like STALKER 2, Starfield, and so on where they aren't big sellers, they will be more exclusive. That's why I hated when Phil Spencer said Case by Case analysis. I just hated the whole court case overall because I kept telling people that we should stop this acquisition of Activision Blizzard King because that will open the floodgates with an acquisition war. There's no point in stopping it now. And Kadokawa is more in favour of Sony over others because they're Japanese and have extensive experience in the particular field of ANIME, Manga, and video games. And Sony will basically take the majority of the anime industry. Most anime companies actually need those big backers like Sony because pirating is pretty bad.

Pirating is never going to go away and in my personal opinion is the only morally correct choice in today's world. Mostly because of companies like Sony, who do not care about their customers and want to nickle and dime us for all we're worth, to say nothing of their disrespect to Anime and Manga IN GENERAL.. I disagree on the Sony holding onto IP's. I think what they do is let an IP take a break and replace it with a new one. IE: Killzone to Horizon, Infamous to Ghost of Tsushima. I wouldn't be surprised to see those two take a break after a trilogy and a return to previous IP's. Rinse, repeat. Just my conspiracy theory 😂

I’m not mad at the FromSoft stuff. If Microsoft are allowed to “stabilise” their gaming business by buying multiple major publishers, I think Sony should be entitled to do the same - on a much smaller scale. PlayStation is easily the company that makes the “most sense” for FromSoft to end up at if an acquisition were to ever happen, and if some rumours of a potential looming hostile takeover from South Korea are true, then Sony would easily be the better and safer option imo. Whether they do exclusives or not, I don’t know. I’d be against it if they did, because they’d be shooting themselves and FromSoft in the foot. But yeah, ultimately I’m not against it at all.

Agreed people forget that Japan studios is responsible partially for demon souls which is the main code creatively that used in dark souls and elden ring . Software would never have done it without Sony . They already own 15% of Fromsoftware because of that code they still use . And then they only innovated again with Bloodborne because Sony demands excellence.

@ Sony is a Japanese company, actually have an install base in the region, have a deep history with developers both first, second, and third party in the region. Sony and FromSoft have an intimate working history compared to anyone else in the acquisition market. Your point about Bungie, as of right now, is completely unfounded so I’m going to discard that comment. There’s literally nothing to suggest they’re a “glorified support studio”, or that Sony ruined them. All accounts clearly point to the fact that Bungie was f****d before and during the acquisition, and Sony gave them leeway in a separate vertical. Bungie didn’t sort their sh** out, so Sony stepped in. They didn’t close the studio, they reintegrated a not insignificant number of the employees elsewhere, and still have projects in the works at the studio.
