I had never realized that the reason I felt horrible during the silent treatment was because I needed him to approve of me, and it was part of my own codependence. The minute I realized what you were saying I felt total peace within me. It felt like a miracle. My husband has been driving me crazy for almost 30 years. The real kicker is, I'm an intelligent attorney and I had no idea what was going on! I feel so stupid. I began researching and he has every single trait, says the same exact words, does all the things a NARCISSIST does. I never even knew what the word meant before. Now, I don't know what I'm doing even living with this person. Over the last few months, I have learned just what this video is about. I grab my keys to go to a movie when my husband isn't even speaking to me and he wants to go with me! No way. I get on my treadmill, fix myself snacks and watch a movie, go to church, call my friends on the phone and laugh a lot. I also have two private savings accounts and am making lists of what I want to take with me to another country far, far away. I'm selling everything I own on Poshmark and stashing the money. He has since died and I have such guilt that I never told him how sorry I was for following my siblings narcissism. This hits so hard for me right now. I'm getting the silent treatment from my mom while 6 months pregnant because I don't want any visitors the first week after my baby is born. I'm an only child, this is her first grandchild. I've spent my whole life being responsible for her feelings and tiptoeing around everything I need because she's emotionally stunted but I cannot and will not be under this type of stress while pregnant. This has been a 30 year cycle so I know she'll never change but I'm having a hard time not caring. She's always abandoned me when I do things or make decisions she doesn't like and I know I need to not take it personally but it's hard, especially while I'm so excited about this baby. But I need to realize she won't be excited for the rest of the pregnancy because she knows she's not going to get her way and I just need to take a step back and be excited with those around me who are also excited. It breaks my heart how much our parents hurt us but will never see or admit it.

Once I caught on to what the silent treatment is used for.... I went with it. I played along thank full for the break and it really burned their souls when I was my happy self -not letting myself change when they went into pout silent treatment mode.... so when they announced they were going to suddenly be really busy after they didn’t get their way, I would mirror that and say you know I’m glad you are going to be busy -because I will also be busy. That got them to discard me but I was happy about it.

I’ve told her how abusive it is to do that to people but, still her default. The narcissist does not empathize with your pain. Your an object to them so, your pain doesn’t matter. I’ve chased and chased and after 4 split ups got back 4 times still, she never stopped the silent treatment. We’ve split for the 5th time a few days ago. She removed me from ALL social media, blocked phone, email, everything. I chased again but, after watching this video, no more. Enough us enough! I hate to admit it and it breaks my heart but, she’s definitely a covert narc. No empathy, never takes responsibility for her mistakes, refuses to talk about hopes, dreams, work, life, outside family (like I’m not included in her life) blames my emotional flashback responses to her continued abusive behaviors. A guy can only take so much abuse before he blows, and uses that as the excuse leave! If by some curs e we got back together nothing would change and the cycle starts up again. That's me atm after 4 months ups and downs and bc he always replied understanding each time I said I felt hurt and I reached my limit I thought he cares and he was the 1st man clear about intentions. I know it rationally..I know ofcourse I manage alone but after some dissapointments this seemed to be genuine. Then 2 or 3 days silences but hey ppl are busy it happens but it added up. I felt a certain unpredictable vibe but I also get confused if it's my would etc. But mostly it's rather simple. If it hurts and I am a reasonable person I don't expect daily contact and much attention I do my things too but when it feels one sided when it suits them. They determine timing of contact and go quiet when they are done. Leaving you hanging in uncertainty or a restless feeling starts to come up on day 3 of silence. In the name of busy I get that but again, It felt disrespectful and atm he is again quiet since 3 days. He usually stops texting in a conversation. He did admit he is a disaster in relationships but I thought: he is humble to admit he messed up, green flag and nobody is perfect incl me..... Here I am heartache, crying but even in this pain I also feel a positive little spark that I will enjoy the sun today and heal my wound again and let it go. I do feel moments where I think that my trust is officially gone but idk how to not attach to someone. This man claimed he wants to build something beautiful together. That makes it extra dissapointing and he was my last try on a dating app so yes I'm done with that. It's only 4 months but it still hurts. You dont meet someone to click with daily so well and that's why I wanted to preserve the connection...😢 It's a rainbow of feelings rejection, pain, frustration and Idk if he is ghosting me but I just conclude this is it and it would my be first experience of being ghosted, I guess. Cruel. We didn't have an argument, nothing. He wrote " that's why I miss having you around" I said sonething sweet in return. Then he went quiet which is normal bc of daily business but it's now Sunday and the last conv was on Thursday. He also often goes quiet in weekends. We are not married I know but still if you say things like " I hope we can build something beautiful together" etc it creates love intentions The fact that soneone leaves you hanging and wondering etc. should be enough to tell myself this is not my type of human being :(

Such great advice!!! Years ago I found that only when I stopped caring, did the silent treatment finally stop having power over me. I actually looked forward to the silent treatment for a while.. it became a sort of vacation from bad treatment.

I learnt you don't need the narcissist in your life....I was sick of my girlfriend at the time blocking me on the iphone constantly. The lack of communication and not being able to talk things through was too much for me after 2 years. I am now more at peace that I have not seen or been near her for 6 months and glad its over. The emotional roller coaster ride was too much for me and too toxic being with a person with Narc traits...why date someone who is a narc when you can date someone who isnt one. Thats the way I see things now....P.S. I love your videos Michele :) Thanks for posting them

I am experiencing the silent treatment right now and i love being so aware while he does it. He ignored me at my birthday party 2 days ago, and left everything to the last minute, i also told him it was his last chance if he ruined it again, which he did. I went right off as I WILL hold him accountable after everything he's done. I separated from him 2 months ago and moved into the other bedroom and told him he had to move out as it's my house. He has made no attempt to save money or take steps to move out. He has to have a shoulder operation on a torn shoulder tendon n asked if he could stay so i could help him as it will take 6 weeks to heal. Mmmm Suspect hey It could be quite a while for specilists opinions and surgery to be arranged and then at least 6 weeks to heal. Could be sooo long. I suspected/ knew he was using it as an excuse to prolong n have control over me. Oh wow just realised he's probably lying about the estimated time range 😭 The longer I stay away from him, the more i see and realise. Time has worn on and my nerves, patience and understanding. He was nice to me last week on Mother's Day and cooked me breakfast in bed. Yep, the cycle was on again...be nice to draw me close and say yes he'll help me and do the things i need and have been asking for months. Mmmm The sucking kept going throughout the week and said this and that, yes all good until the day of my birthday. I had been out snd enjoyed my day, came home to relax and enjoy the evening in peace and complete a few finishing touches to prepare for birthday party the next day. I knew he was up to something, so I warned him not to screw me around and play his stupid little games like abusing me in front of my friends and family like he had done a few times before. Last time though I stood up for myself and informed friend present that he was "just trying to embarrass me in front of my loved ones, like he did New Years Eve and because he's a narcissistic abuser". OMG that's why he wanted to have the parties, just for that reason. NYE i didn't even want people over as we had just moved and a lot of work.😮 Wow I still am totally shocked at the things he's done just to hurt me while I've been kind, caring and loving until I was pushed too far. I know i need to evict him yet took mercy on him for shoulder problem, so i delayed it. Sorry waffling now lol So I warned him that it was his last chance to make things good and i strongly advised him not to do what I knew he was going to do. Screw me over yet again. I know this may have challenged him a bit but i didn't care, i was over it and had the ultimate control, which he seemed to forget at times. Maybe i also put the challenge out there so i could have a reason to evict him without caring about his operation as i was suffering from his torture and the fact he was still here... trapped between fighting for self respect and empathy for him. I've been really sick for weeks n losing lots of weight , confidence and caring about anything and work time and pay, which I cannot afford as im a widow supporting myself. Prime target 🎯 It started my birthday evening when he says "now im ready to move the furniture for party" that I'd asked help with all week. Wow I replied"you really think I want to do it now after being out all day and having major back pain." He's just looked n huffed "well you've been asking me to do it n now You Won't Help Me!" Bingo. Here we go. I helped as much as I could while he stuffed around in between. I was tired, i looked at the clock and was shocked that it was early hours of the morning. I said "I'm going to bed, now im going to be tired and grumpy tomorrow, thanks a lot ". Next day bday party, he tidied his mess in the yard finally and when everyone started to arrive he went to his bedroom and sat there the whole night until late, when coincidentally was when everyone was about to leave. I was in good humour and had fun. I asked him if he was going to spend time with me like he said, as we had decided we had to get along to co-exist, and he turned around and walked back inside. I said that if you can't spend even 5 minutes with me on bday party you are obviously not my friend, yet you expect me to let you live here and take care of you for 6 weeks or more, yet you cannot spare me the time of day. I warned him so now I am writing the eviction notice, giving him 3 months to be out, encompassing standing up for myself, setting boundaries and legally enforceable time constraints in case he's been bullshitting me about that too. Adding conditions such as any harrassment and problem making will result in immediate eviction, cause i realised that I'm not responsible for him. He doesn't care about how he hurts me, why should I care about him anymore. The offer of care was for a friend and he and his behaviour are not my friends. Preach sis! I did this unintentionally amd the sileny treatment ended quickly. I eventually ended the relationship because i dont have time fie that level of toxicity and immaturity.
