I grew up with this song. But, I never felt the heartbreak of a father until I became one myself. I can’t even imagine losing a child. Eric is such a strong man and great daddy. This song is purely written from his heart. I can’t stop crying. 😢

My son left me on 20 April 2023. He left so suddenly due to cardiac arrest. He never woke up. I’m blaming myself for not being there when he breathed his last. He was only 23 years old. We were only 20 years apart, so we literally grew up together. I miss him so much. I was a single mother and I’m now left with nothing 😢. So cruel 😢

Don't blame yourself. I lost my dad to cardiac arrest while I was asleep. Went to bed with a dad and woke up without one. He was a very fit mid-40s mountain climber. Heart attacks are one of those things that you can't predict or sometimes do anything about - it's not your fault

The saddest song ever written. My uncle lost his son back in the early 90's. He also fell out of a window. My uncle & the rest of the family were devastated. In the process we've learned to come together & be more close as a family.

This is better than the studio recording. I thought he wasn't going to make it through the first line. He sings with so much emotion. I only learned of the backstory for this song this morning. My heart is shattered.

How does a man so fresh after the events this song was written about, get on stage in front of every elite in showbiz and absolutely crush it? Nothing short of heroic.

In his autobiography, he credits the passing of his son to making him NEED to stay sober and preserve everything that he needed to be and to fix the problems he has caused from drug and alcohol abuse for the better part of 3 decades

Plus this song was a permanent way that his son would always new remembered. He tried to use that pain to honor his little boy so that something good and beautiful could come out of those circumstances. From my point of view as a mother who lost a baby daughter.

I know that Eric's little boy is standing next to his daddy's side every minute of every day. I know he just beams with pride as he tells the other little children that Eric is singing to all of them as well. One day Eric will sit in the middle of all these lovely children and sing one happy song after the next to them. He will forever hold the little hand that God especially hand picked for paradise. It won't be long Eric. Life is very short. You will hold your precious little son in your arms again for ever and ever. May God bless you every day and allow you to feel the presence of your little boy.

Song dedicated to his son... ..even though I have not lost my two sons ... now 45 and 43 . if they died before me .. now at their age ... this song would somewhat help me but his son Connor died after falling 30 floors from a window ...in New York City ,, Connor would be in his in his late 30's now .. after his son died ... his friends held a 24/7 round the clock vigil .. being there so he would not kill himself ... this is for Connor .. his son ... but had to climb a mountain to survive the death of his son ... this song shows his strength and THE WILL respect to go on with the worst of the worst .. this song is for his son ... I must be STRONG ... respect him dearly ...

Lyrics : Would you know my name? If I saw you in heaven Would it be the same? If I saw you in heaven I must be strong And carry on 'Cause I know I don't belong Here in heaven Would you hold my hand? If I saw you in heaven Would you help me stand? If I saw you in heaven I'll find my way Through night and day 'Cause I know I just can't stay Here in heaven Time can bring you down Time can bend your knees Time can break your heart Have you begging please Begging please Beyond the door There's peace, I'm sure And I know there'll be no more Tears in heaven Would you know my name? If I saw you in heaven Would you be the same? If I saw you in heaven I must be strong And carry on 'Cause I know I don't belong Here in heaven

I needed to hear this song, my mom died last month & I miss her so much, I look forward to seeing my mom in heaven. My dad is in hospice and dying too. I’ve had my parents almost 69 years, so obviously I knew they would die, but I had no idea how much it would hurt. I thought it would feel similar to losing my beloved mother in law, but it’s not, losing my mom is the most painful thing I have ever experienced, and I know losing my dad is going to amplify that pain, because I am a daddy’s girl. My mom said in November, that because I am her eldest daughter & I was their honeymoon baby, that we were almost more like best friends, because we grew up together, which is true, but she was my mom first and foremost, we talked about everything and I keep wanting to talk to her. I hope Eric does see Conor in heaven, I know I will see my mom there, someday.❤❤❤
