Nice job, the color of the led for the front fogs is always green.

these cars are fun! my saxo (1998) has fog lights from the factory but switch for turning them on is next to the hazard button and there is no orange indicator like on the video here for them being on, instead there is a green light on the switch itself (the light bulb burned out lol). also there is front and back fog light option on the headlights switch but front fog light position does nothing when turned on, its just there haha. also my car has manual windows but it had central locking untill the unit died and was thrown out of the car as it was malfunctioning and was locking and unlocking the car for no reason (wasnt that big of a deal as left door motor is half dead and is not locking the door properly) but we had to throw that unit out as our neighbourhood is dead quiet at night and the sound of our car constantly locking and unlocking seemed loud to us and was going on our nerves as this was happening even when driving, however now when right door is locked (from the inside) other 2 doors also lock, but when left door is locked other 2 stay unlocked (idk how can this still kinda work as the central locking unit is not in the car anymore but i dont mind it). power steering went out 7 years ago and also turn signals do not go off automatically anymore 😂 i lost the key for the doors few years ago so now the car cant be locked and stays unlocked (obviously) with the key for turning the engine on staying always in the car for about 5 years now, nobody seems interested in stealing this car lmao

You may need to get one from a scrap car and solder them to your own loom, best asking on the 106/Saxo owners clubs for the connector.

I have an LHD - where everything is different - but all wires are serial...it's just plug&play. All you need is another indicator lever and a relais.

Nice job but a lot of work for the few times it's really foggy unless where you live it is frequently very foggy.

Couldn't you have just wired it to work with the rotating switch for the rear fog lights?
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 4 жыл бұрын
I suppose that would be possible. Although it would have both front and rear coming on together which in a way does make sense because if there is fog why only put one set on. However it is fairly conventional in cars to be able to switch on wither the front or back and thats why i got a switch from a car with front fog lights. The headlight height adjuster? I did not know this was a thing, from memory my mums phase 1 diesel did not have adjusters and a blanking plate. Having said that the trim levels of 106 and Saxos would be hard to definitivley summarise as there was so many variations and dealer specials. Zest, Inca, Independance, etc. The show Harry and paul had a few funny sketches poking fun at that.

@@peugeotCitroen2CV Yours had the switch there mate. It's the wee wheel type switch next to the steering column 0:19 . I've been told it's for the beam height adjustment when the cars fully loaded? Then there's manual adjustment for the beam pattern. Not too sure. I've got one of these cars as an (admittedly quite big) project and I think I got the timing wrong. You did a video servicing yours and how it runs when you start it up after finishing is what I'm aspiring to get mine like. Clarkson also mocked all the different names once aswell in top gear. The bit where they chat to the "star in a reasonably priced car".

@@iainmacrae6982 Ah yes, this car was indeed fitted with height adjustable headlights. I remember having to fit the height adjustment motor to one of the headlights. If the car had its full compliment of passengers and luggage the healight aim would be off and the adjuster can compensate for that. I have a video covering the cambelt on this car also, it might come in handy. The main thing would be to turn it over by hand several times before letting it turn over on the starter motor to ensure the valves and pistons are not hitting. The TU is a fairly simple engine and even in the worst case scenario its not too hard or expensive to change either.

@@peugeotCitroen2CV I mean I've already had it running although it's absolutely horrid. Runs about as rich as it could without not running, is rough and juddery and wouldn't idle at first. New idle valve sorted the idle at least but I definitely need to check valve lash and cam timing, I did lock the sprockets but I had it sat months at a time so I'll need a good look at it, probably a tooth out. I'm getting a parts car in the next few weeks, parts getting a tad scarce and various things need changed that I'd never go out to specifically get like a cracked fuse box cover or snapped air vent. As for light adjustment, my switch does nothing whatsoever, so I'll check the motors. Writing this, I've just remembered that there were two brown connectors lying disconnected below my headlights, although one of them seemed to plug into a sensor on the radiator. Bit of a stretch but you don't remember the colour of the connectors if that could be them?
@peugeotCitroen2CV

@@iainmacrae6982 Any engine management lights on or fault codes? I cant remember what connector colours went to the adjuster motors, they are a rectangular connector with a spring clip that retains them, i think. Thats a wise move getting a parts car, they are getting a bit thin on the ground.

Is it possible to do the same to my MK1 with differend Fog lights?
@andrewwilson2114
@andrewwilson2114 8 жыл бұрын
would you need to buy a new front bumper with designated holes for the fogs to have them installed? or are the fog insert "covers" on the independence model able to be popped/cut out?
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 8 жыл бұрын
As far as im aware the covers can be removed and fog lights can take their place, having said that on this 106 i just bought a replacement bumper that had fog lights on it.

I know this might seem a bit late considering when you put this video up but I have bought a a bumper same as this but my foglight bulb holder doesn’t have any cable coming off it, anyway round this? Cheers

The best thing to do would be to source one from a scrapyard. Only issue is these cars are getting a bit thin on the ground. C1's or 206's might have a similar bulb connector

Is it an MOT requirement that there is an indicator light in the cabin to show the front fog lights are on?
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 6 жыл бұрын
Im not 100% sure but the mot tester would normally check that the interior bulbs reflect that the main/dipped beams are on it makes sense to have a warning for the fog lights. Although cars could do with a bigger warning light for the amount of people driving round with fog lights on when there is no fog or rain to be seen.
@MonaichFother
@MonaichFother 6 жыл бұрын
I know one thing, there is no requirement for them to work if fitted, sooo if you take out the fuse to make them inoperable then there's no need for the indicator in the first place. Interestingly I've had 3 106's & in one the reverse light didn't light when that gear was engaged, there was a problem with a cam switch in the gear box which I thought would mean scraping the car, (gear box removal & repair would be £££££s) the MOT tester stated there in no requirement for that to work either. Also on my current 106 the passenger door lever is inoperable, "no problem" said the MOT guy, the passenger can always get out the drivers side, :O What if the car was ever in an accident & it was submerged? Its Crazy!
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 6 жыл бұрын
It depends on the mot tester. I believe that new changes to the mot test due to being brought in on the 26th of may will mean the reverse light needs to be changed. However, the reverse switch bolts onto the side of the gearbox on the 106 if I recall correctly so it shouldn't be too difficult to change. The door would definatley fail the mot test over here in nothern ireland (same rules but the mot is carried out in an mot centre as opposed to a mechanics garage which i belive is what happens in the rest of the uk), i had it happen on my mums citroen xsara i was unable to get out through the passenger door and the car failed.

Good stuff BTW I'm travelling 371 miles to pick up a £500 106 tomorrow. "What?!" you ask, its got 14k miles on it see & a full service history. :) Wish me luck, 6 hours on a train to Melton Mowbray then 7 hours driving back. 106 heaven :P

It helps to have all the parts required in advance and plan out a job like this to prevent leaving something unfinished, especially if the car is a daily driver and there is pressure to finish it in order to be able to get it back on the road.
