When Dimitri Dragin finds himself in an uncomfortable right v right situation, he has ways to change it.
Dragin doesn’t look to escape, but instead he chooses to use it to his advantage, it was a scenario he trained for.
With both fighters being in a right handed stance all their weight is on their front leg, the right leg.
So it’s this leg that Dragin wants to attack.
His solution, is a front leg Sasae Tsuri Komi Ashi.
Dragin has two variations. The first one involves making contact with his foot on his opponent’s lower leg.
And the second is to make contact with his thigh on his opponent’s thigh.
There’s three possible outcomes Dragin looks for: He can either throw Uke, chop them down to the ground making them look passive, or use it as an opportunity to attack in Ne waza.
Dragin can also use the second variation when the opponent has taken an extreme cross grip.
Over the next few videos Dragin will cover everything you need to know to make the Front Leg Sasae one of your Judo techniques, with the final video analysing in detail how he used it on the World Circuit.
