Front Load Washer - How to Repair a Stuck Water Valve

I had a problem with my Samsung WF210 front-load washer just gushing in cold water that would not stop. I had to manually turn the water off behind the washer. I reasoned that the valve that is electrically controlled to allow water in or stop it from flowing was stuck open.
I have well water with a lot of sediment. Sediment got into the water valve and made it stick open. In this video I show you how to find the valve, remove it, take it apart, clean it and put it back together. Easy peasy! You will need a medium phillips screwdriver and a pair of pliers. That's it! 30 minutes tops if you are nervous. 10 minutes if mechanically inclined.

Thanks brother. I have the exact issue. All other videos just recommend changing the valve.

I am a 68 year old woman who was able to repair a Magic Chef 1.6 cu ft portable washer that was over- filling (water gushing when it was turned-off) by using your instructions on cleaning the washer valve. However, to get to the washer valve out was a chore (the plate that covered the valve was a mystery to get off at first). Once I got the plate cover off and the washer value unit out, a special type of screw driver head was needed (hexa-something or other?) to remove individual valves from the unit. I stripped one of the screw heads and had to use needle-nose pliers to get the screw out and back in. The individual valves did not seem dirty at all, so I replaced everything back into its original place. Walla, everything works great now. But really, I could not have done it without your video. Thank you.

I literally scoured the internet trying to find how to fix the inlet valve on my 1.6 cubic foot, portable magic chef washer, And I couldn't find any info on my particular model but then I found your comment, and your comment is what made it possible for me to fix it. It was a combination of this video and your comment. Thank you so much. I'm a single father of 3 and you saved me a couple $100 and a lot of heart ache right now.

Almost spent 800.00 on a new washer after my WF210 quit with a NF code that turnout to be a faulty water valve but after watching this video and cleaning the three valves we 're back in business. Thank you very much.

Before watching your video, I opened my LG IntelloWasher (wf-t8501tp) and it was similar to your washer, but when I cleaned and washed all those parts (including the rubber diaphragm), it didn't work. I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I checked it with a multimeter, and the continuity test showed that it was ok. However, after watching your video, you said that yours will work after cleaning the rubber diaphragm, so I opened it and checked the rubber diaphragm, and I discovered a hole in its neck. Because I was only using the cold valve, the hot valve rubber diaphragm was perfectly ok. So I swapped it and now the water flows fast. Thank you so much. I also made a video and will post it soon to help out those with LG washers.

I changed my hoses, cleaned out the inlet valve, and still wasn't working. I took it apart and cleaned it more. DIdnt look clogged, but it made all the difference. Mine was the hot water inlet valve, cold water working fine. I even tested all the parts for continuity, puzzled that it was fine so I continued on and cleaned and retested and it works!! Thanks

Put a settlement tank on Easter your supply line , sort of like how a water heater will catch a ton of sediment and particulate over time ... you could plumb in a tank or even a old water heater and just leave unhooked, that way it’ll collect a lot of the debris prior to filter

Ok going into how these types of electromagnetic diaphragm valves work , they work with a difference in pressure applied to the front and back of the diaphragm .. With the electromagnet off the small spring forces the metal plunger out and its rubber tipped seat against the center hole on the top of the diaphragm and the pressure difference works to hold it sealed there. there will also be several small holes through the body of the diaphragm at least one that lets the "inlet water pressure" to flow through them to the top or back of the diaphragm that has a large surface area, with the center hole sealed by the plunger tip, the inlet water pressure is much greater on the top or back of the diaphragm and this forces it to flex down and seal against the water outlet seat allowing no flow through the valve into the machine.. When the valve is given power by the machines timer , the electromagnet attracts or pulls the plunger up into the tube against the spring lifting its tip seal off the center hole in the diaphragm , This opens a passage into the valves outlet chamber on the front side of the diaphragm that "equalizes pressure difference on "both sides of the diaphragm and it in no longer has enough force on its back or top side to force it against the outlet seat ,, the inlet water presure on the back of the diaphragm can force it off its seal and allows water to flow out the outlet into the machine ,, if any of the diaphragm passages get plunged with crud the water cant flow through them and build pressure on the top ,, and the valve will leak when off. same issue if the plunger can not move freely and the spring cant re-seat it against the center hole it will act like the magnet has pulled it up .. make sure all the passages in the diaphragm itself are not plugged or inlet water pressure wont be able force the valve closed .. when its off.. on machines stored off season in freezing climates the water trapped in behind the diaphragm can freeze "and" is almost impossible to drain it all for freeze protection unless you take the valve apart ,, when it does manage freeze in there,,,, it does not always crack the valve but it does change the critical shape of the plastic case when it expands ,, a valve that has had this happen will never work as it should and must be replaced, it cant be repaired .. there is also a visual illustration of this here remember the concept of operation is the same but the valve case will differ with different brands kzbin.info/www/bejne/in-pkmqXiMt7nbc

The water inlet solenoid valves can fail either electrically or mechanically, you only covered the mechanical side, them valves can fail electrically too, you check each valve for resistance and all valves should read about the same number (give or take few %s), the number should be anywhere from few hundreds to few thousands ohms (depending on the valve manufacturer), if either of the valves reads infinity or a very high number (way higher than the rest of the valves) it means the respective valve failed electrically and needs replacing, the valve's wire coil has a breakage, sometimes these electrical faults are intermittent, an indicative of such intermittent fault is when resistance read-outs from the same valve differ drastically from one time to the next, this being the result of the two broken ends of the wire just touching each other and not making a solid connection for electricity to flow through unrestricted.

i tried a similar cleaning, but i have a top loading washer. same type of inlet valve, but mine was actually clean. maybe something got inside the diaphram, but my diagram didnt come apart like yours. when i took it off, it tore. i guess they are pressed in or glued in on the GE models. i ordered a new on on ebay for about $15.00. hopefully it works.

You could just fit a finer micron filter to the inlet lines to the washing machine instead of the whole house. This will extend the time it would take to fill with silt due to the lesser amount of water used by just one appliance.

You can just add the better filter downline from your current filter. That way it will only clog with fine sediment, lasting much longer than if you use it as your main filter!

If those Diaphragms, have a circular impression where the rubber meets the Plastic. (Which I think they may have) If my eyes didn't deceive me. So consequently the Diaphragms will need replacing. (New Inlet Valve) Also check the the top end of the "Pistons" (The RUBBER part) to make sure there are No impressions in them.

That water valve rubber seal could swell causing the water to stick or not even allow water to trickle at all. I advise just replace the water valve, if you are doing your own then that is fine. If you are doing this for a friend just don't play games with water valves. They can flood the house and all kinds of negative things, just order new and replace the part with an OEM part. Good video and great explanation but this is way too serious when dealing with water.
