Filmed August 7, 2019 at Wrigths Lake, El Dorado National Forest, CA
I started going to this camping spot since I was in middle school. My Dad went here as a kid so he took us up here one day to camp for a few days, and we all fell in love with the place. Its the last camping place on this road and its really high elevation. The lake is shallow so there's no motorized boats allowed.
Of course I noticed the dumpsters when I first went up there. For a while I pulled out all the cans and bottles the day we left. I later thought to ask the Ranger there what day the dumpsters are dumped. I was told they are dumped on Monday's.We never camped over the weekend. We always left on a Saturday, so that ruined the idea to film what truck comes.
Fast forward about 10 years and I finally decided to make a trip up there. I got a Monday off from work to go film. I thought it was a while since I was told its Monday collection. So I called the Ranger station and they said it changed recently to Wednesdays. I didnt believe them, so I called the garbage Company: South Tahoe Refuse. And they did confirm it was indeed Wednesdays now. She was nice enough to look at the trucks computer to tell me the times the truck was there and it was between noon and 2. So a lot later than I thought. I switched my days off and was able to get a Wednesday off from work.
I left my place around 6, and on the way up there I decided to hit up this other campsite at a different lake and scavenge through the dumpsters for CRV to pay for this trip. It was only about 10 miles from where I was going. I got a good amount and decided to leave since there is a lot of dumpsters where I was going.
I park my truck, use the bathroom, get my stuff ready to scavenge. I hit up the day use dumpsters and went back to my truck to get more bags. As I was walking away, I hear a dumpster getting slammed. And in the forest, it really echos. I check my phone, and its only 9:30. So sadly, I missed out on a lot of CRV. That's fine though.I made $20.83 from part of a campsite. That paid for more than half of the fuel.
So the truck comes, and its a new Heil. Which is fine. Still cool to see a front loader in the forest. This company did have STS trucks not too long ago.
Huge thanks to the driver who was totally fine with me filming. This was his first time doing this route, so that's why he was here early. This was probably one of my favorite trips I took to film on my own. Such a peaceful place and felt good to be back after so many years.
This video is from one side of the camping area. This part of the campsite is for RV/ trailers only. The next video will be the tent camping area only section.
Really hope you like this video. It was definitely a change of scenery for me. I'm going to see if I can go back before its closed for the season.
