Probably many comments said that already, but I can't find any: those solar chargers are great to prevent draining to the point of deep discharge and therefore permanent damage and an early death of batteries, but they don't make enough power to bring them back once they are completely drained. Hook them up permanently to a new battery or at least a decent one and the machine will most likely always have enough juicy to start, even after a long time sitting.

Those solar panels are like 2-3 watts and those batteries are in the 1200-1500 watts range (assuming they are not dead). Lead acid batteries also self discharge over time. So it would likely take months of trickle charging with those panels from a completely discharged state to get the batteries back to full. They also don't have charge controllers, so if the panel gets much bigger they can overcharge and destroy the battery. It looks like the panels are designed for car batteries, not heavy machinery batteries. The starter voltage sag on some of the batteries suggested a bunch have lost a lot of their cold cranking amp capacity. Trickle solar chargers do work but they are not designed to revive dead batteries or fully charge a discharged battery.
@3sparewashers-lg3gf5 ай бұрын
I believe the intent is to counteract the self discharging.
@komitadjie5 ай бұрын
Yeah, those are meant to supply enough to keep the self-discharge from dropping their charge over time. They work *extremely* well, but they're the equivalent of a battery maintainer, not a charger.

They keep a fully charged battery at peak voltage when they are not being charged by the machine or the power supply used to do so. Oh look. There`s that Irwin clamp I lost last year.... BTW From 12:23 to 12:49 is some of the best drone work i`ve seen yet... And alternators often have one way sprag clutch. Particularly with Diesel engines. The rotational variation of the flywheel at idle, caused by the individual cylinder firings, puts a lot of strain on ancillary components, particularly the serpentine belt. The one way clutch allows the rotational momentum of the alternator stator to continue freewheeling in between the power pulses without snatching at the belt. This not only prolongs the life of the component, but the belt as well. It`s not uncommon for replacement units to be fitted with one, even if the OEM one wasn`t. PS. About time you blew up some more hillside. They`re my favourite. And I should probably not comment on videos when I`ve been down the pub lol...
