Hi everyone! Today I’m going to show you how to install front upper control arm offset bushings on a Honda S2000. Offset bushings are a really easy way to get some additional front camber and also fit wide front wheels. They can be particularly helpful in certain racing classes since they typically do not incur any additional points.
Note: I did not install the set screws from the Baero kit. They are not even included in the Origin Fabrication kit.
Thanks to Austin for letting me film this install on his S2000!

Just installed these a few weeks ago. I ended up using the Energy Suspension grease. It should resist water a bit better standard moly grease. It also helped hold the washers in place during installation.

Thanks for making this video, just installed these on my s2000 and it was very easy to follow along! Also, after I installed all the bushings I noticed that I installed a pair slightly off-center, would this be a huge issue or will it eventually center itself out?
@DIYGuysvideo
@DIYGuysvideo 4 ай бұрын
I don’t think it will center itself out over time since it’s offset. You just won’t be able to get maximum camber.

Helpful. Currently run Spoon front adjusters to get more camber. Would the adjuster stay in place if these bushings are installed? In theory would you use both to get additional camber. Recently installed a set of track wheels and tries where I need more fender clearance. I could just get more camber by adjusting my alignment but wondering if these work better than adjusters.

Do you have any experience with polybushings? Would they be worth on a street driven weekend car or i am bettee going with hardened rubber? The ones from hardrace look decent quality but are more expensive than a complete polybush kit

Won’t these affect the car’s alignment negatively? Since they change the angle of the contact patch or dynamic movement of the arm?

Nice job 👍. Any reason why you didn't grease the bolts before you reinstalled them through the sleeves in the new bushings?
@DIYGuysvideo

Torquing down bolts gets tricky once you lubricants bolts and that is something I don’t want to play with. Assuming you mean anti seize lubricant.
@Rob.Coleman
@Rob.Coleman 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply 👍. We get huge problems here in the UK with the bolts seizing inside the sleeves (combination of salty winter roads and a predominantly damp climate), so common practice here is to grease the bolts when reinstalling.

@@DIYGuysvideo It actually takes the friction out of the tightening, so instead of your torque being caused by both bolt tension and overcoming the friction from the threads, by lubing you take off the friction part and your torque more closely corresponds to bolt tension, which is what the factory torque specs are trying to achieve. The manual specs assume the car is not full of busted threads or corrosion on the bolts. Part of the reason why they specify new bolts is because new bolts have new threads, and are not stretched or corroded and thus tightening them will put bolt tension in line with what the manufacturer is going for.

Was waiting for you to upload a video about bushing cause I just got coils and looked at my oem bushings and they are not too bad yet. However, can you tell me the benefit of bushings for all 4 sides of the car? I am thinking about getting oem bushings again or these.
@DIYGuysvideo
@DIYGuysvideo 3 жыл бұрын
The benefit is additional front camber (2.5+) and fitting wide front wheels and tires. It’s primarily for track folks.

The only suspension bushing I’ve really seen wear is the compliance bushings. Beyond visually seeing cracked rubber you would notice clunking and poor tire wear from dynamic alignment changes. Besides the compliance bushings I’m on Original suspension bushings at 160k miles.

Any issue with the bushings possibly rotating in the arm now that they are offset? I usually see people drill and put a set screw through the arm or something in the offset bushing to make sure they cant spin.
@DIYGuysvideo
@DIYGuysvideo 3 жыл бұрын
I left a note about this in the description. The origin kit does not come with set screws. The Baero kit does come with set screws. After speaking with Baero they mentioned that the set screws were a precaution because they had heard of other brands rotating, but theirs should have no issue due to the correct press size. So far I have done about 7ish track days with no rotation. I may add the set screws if I get bored though.

Personally I would go with these bushings. You get the additional benefit of better wheel clearance and I’m a little suspicious of SPC upper ball joints since they seem to snap control arms when installed in the rear. Seen a lot of track cars encounter this issue lately.
@jchi778
@jchi778 3 жыл бұрын
Careful having both the hardrace offset lower ball joint and these bushings. Your minimum camber might be over -3 depending on ride height.
@PenguinScotty

Would advise against the SPCs. Have them currently on my car but there are some problems, some more major than others. One is that they tend to slip. Torquing them to supplied spec is insufficient and they will move on track. These bushings will never slip. SPCs are also seemingly moving the leverage point of the control arms and can cause failures of the arms (Several track driven S2ks have had upper A-Arm failures with SPC ball joints now). Another advantage is that these are legal and do not cost points in certain sanctioning bodies. They're also significantly cheaper. I'll be switching my SPCs out soon.

@@PenguinScotty what is the benefit of these? Seems like they contribute to bump steer as they would change balljoint geometry on cornering or contact patch
