Trisha Atwood, associate professor from Utah State University, describes how animals affect microbial communities, how they change plants, and ultimately how that influences ecosystem function. This National Science Foundation project builds on previous research in the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta. In the 70's and 80's population ecologists studied water fowl. Then botanists became interested in the plants. Studies have moved to bio-geochemists who are interested in carbon and nitrogen aspects.
