Mitski may well be an avatar incarnate of the 90s indie alternative rock zeitgeist , culminating the best of what that era had to offer. Her muse exudes the electronic nuances of Bjork and Garbage, the playful harmonies of The Cranberries and The Cardigans, and the mean grit of Veruca Salt and Alanis Morisette. Even her acoustic works show glimpses of the sincere melodies reminiscent of The Sundays and Frente. Whether it was intentionally by design or not, Mitski's music is easily the best find I've made these past few years. I find her original music and lyrical poetry to be surreal yet honest; additionally, her style in live performances, along with the complimentary visual art, is ultimately transcending. I strongly believe that her talent rises well above the rest among other recent contemporary artists. Mitski certainly found two more hard core fans when 'Francis Forever' was covered by Marceline the Vampire in Adventure Time's season 7, 36th Episode titled the 'Music Hole', namely my daughter and I.
