I had Saitek setup also.....tossed it for a go flight yoke and Pro Flight Control throttle quadrant console. I'm loving the interchangeable throttle quadrants I can use with it.....especially their 737 throttle that features spoilers, flaps and reversers just like the real thing! It's fantastic and reasonably priced. I'm a big fan.

Amazing that you posted this video just 2 days after Santa brought me the Saitek yoke and pedals! It's worth mentioning as well the bar connecting 4 throttles together (as shown near the end of the video) apparently comes with the second quadrant, the actual yoke package just has one black, one blue and one red which is a bit of a shame (an extra 2 blacks would have made it a lot nicer to use with 2 or 3 engine jet aircraft). At the moment I'm mostly flying the 757 in X-Plane so hard to justify buying a second quadrant right now but it's good to know the upgrade path is there in future.

Hi Froogle. Love watching your videos and many thanks for publishing them. You're a real asset to the FS community. I've had my Saitek Pro Yoke and twin throttle quadrants for 7 years. I fly the 737-800 and Concorde. The throttles have worked perfectly until I changed the four throttle caps for the single one which I use on Concorde. All of a sudden I was getting really bad spiking on throttle 1 but only when it was in the idle position. Not good as it would spike up to 80% N2 which is disastrous! What worked for me and maybe will help others with this is to push the caps on quite firmly and this has solved the spiking issue. In all other respects the Saitek kit is excellent for the money. It's main asset is all the extra buttons you get on the yoke and throttles. If GoFlight also had these I might be tempted to switch but Saitek does pretty everything right. Well, apart from their sales where you can't buy throttle quadrants for love nor money! Keep up the great work!

Quick question froogle, you mention that you can use FSUIPC and/or the mode switch on the Saitek gear. When changing between types of aircraft, do you use the mode switch, different FSUIPC configs or a mixture of the two?

Just found your channel, getting back into Flight sim since FSX came out on Steam. I agree with you on Saitek, I have a lot of respect for the company. I had bought a Saitek HOTAS system, the first one they ever put out, years ago. (Still the joystick plug not USB). Well I broke it, had the switches in the joystick movement axis wear out. I emailed them to ask about replacements, where to get/buy them and a couple weeks later i got a suprise pack in the mail with a complete set for free. Not sure if they are the same now but the company impressed me with that. Anyways going through your vids, they all loook great. Thanks

I use the CH Yoke and throttle quad wiith the Saitek switch, autopilot,and radio panels. I use SPAD as the Saitek driver. A lovely setup.

Saitek seem to have a major problem with maintaining consistent product quality. Some say their stuff is super good quality considering the price, but I'm not impressed at all - I had the PF yoke and it was crap, the pitch axis was really sticky and despite several modifications I just couldn't get it to work any better, so I just threw the thing away and got a TM HOTAS Warthog instead. I've had it for 4 years now and it's still good as new. I also have the PF rudder pedals and after only a year or two, one of the toe brake spring mounts inside the left pedal snapped and I had to jury rig a replacement mount out of a square shaped steel washer. Another problem I had was that the rudder axis kept randomly drifting to the left, so I had to open the pedals (again) to check the pot's cables. I disconnected them and soldered them back on, but it turned out to be caused by the pot itself and was easily fixed with some contact cleaner spray. Not to mention that the pedals just feel really flimsy and "toyish", they make a lot of noise and the pedal parts themselves are quite wobbly and move sideways a lot. I don't know how I've managed to keep the pedals in working condition for this long, it feels like I've got a dying person connected to a ventilator and I'm just waiting for the inevitable. Now to figure out what to replace this piece of junk with when it finally dies...

+Seekay Sorry you had a bad experience. From the interview I did with Saitek a while back they are working on quality. That said though, there are a lot more people who will turn to the Internet to relay a bad experience than there are people with good ones. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as I have never had a piece of their kit die on me or start to suffer the way you explain.

Nice setup, and very nice presentation. I just happened to purchase the second throttle quadrant. I have the switch panel as well. Very good and enthusiastic presentation and explanation. And yes, it is very tempting to get the complete Saitek setup. Kudos to Saitek for making the modular setup like that. At the moment, there seems no other company makes such gear in this reasonable price range. I understand that the little instrument panels add up, but the rest of the Sitek components are very reasonably priced for a dedicated piece of gear.

Froogle, you're going to love the Radio stack. It works with everything out of the box including the NGX and 777. To get the switch panel to work better with NGX, check out a free driver called SPAD. It syncs the sitek panels (all of them) to functually work flawlessly with the NGX. Hopefully it'll get updated to work with the 777 as well.

It actually does. Saitek have a Cessna branded yoke that doesn';t have the display but you can still get the Pro Flight Yoke from this video and yes it does still have the display.

You can also build your own panels, very easily and cheaply (if you can drill holes in plywood/old PC case and solder a wire onto a thing, and write very elementary C++ programs). Or buy secondhand aircraft electronics - cheap from being unairworthy - and connect them to your sim. Assuming your sim is X-Plane. Probably much harder to do if at all in MSFS.

Froogle in a moment of financial optimism I backed that force-feedback yoke kickstarter a week or two ago. Hopefully will get it in May/June. Would be interesting to compare to... well... any spring-centered flight control device really :)

Hey! Nice video, I program the two-way rockers below each throttle as starter. It works with external addons better than the switch panel ignition, and you can use the mode function to program them to different places (the two on the left for the baron, the four in the middle for a 747 etc.). Just a suggestion, I find it easier then moving the mouse to toggle the starter. You could also check out an American small time manufacturer; desktop aviator. Some amazing panels that boost reality for an Amazing price. Although shipping is painfully expensive from the US. In particular his 1010 panel is good.

Haha that's the exact same setup as I have. The switch panel, pro flight yoke system, rudder pedals and extra quadrant. However, now I use the HOTAS Warthog. Nice review though, pretty solid. I like saitek's products. They aren't too expensive and they're pretty good quality for plastic equipment.

Froogle, I would love to see a video on the freeware Douglas C47 by Manfred Jahn. It's an amazing piece of work, requires cool headed engine management, feels great, and plays beautifully with Accusim. It has rekindled my enthusiasm for FSX.

Excellent review here; your setup looks great! As I recently purchased this Saitek Pro Flight Yoke, I wanted to ask you if you previously experienced the "sticky pitch axis" with the yoke. It seems to have a lot of friction upon pulling back and forward. Really great feature set, but do you have any recommendations about this sticky motion and friction? Have you had issues with the yoke?

I have all the saitek controls you have and 2 x radio panels and auto pilot. Had them for years with over 500 hours flying with no problems. I do however recommended the free Spad driver online. Works much better than saiteks drivers.

Flicking your large knob right after takeoff might be somewhat distracting. Just trim for VY and you'll have both hands free :-)

+frooglesim been simming for many years but never used a yoke, always sticks. Currently got the Black Widow and the fantastic Warthog Hotas system. In your experience does flying GA with a yoke 'feel' any better than with a stick? I get that it's a more authentic control system but just not sure whether it is worth shelling out the money.

Quite nice. I have the same, minus the switchpanel, also minus second TQ (which will be coming soon though) Also I have a Cyborg Evo stick, nice one as well - and possibly the only not-low-end stick that can be flown with both hands - great for left seating in a stick side-by-side trainer, or for the Airbus.

One thing I didn't realise was that you could change the knobs on the throttle quadrant. I would like to get an extra black one for my throttle quadrant but can't find where to buy them. I have the Saitek pro flight yoke, just the basic yoke and single throttle quadrant but windows refuses to recognize it, I've installed what was on the disc, tried installing the software from Saitek's website but it wont as it requires me to plug the yoke in and when I do wont recognize that it is in fact plugged in. Occasionally when I start my PC up and plug in the yoke it will work for about 60 seconds or so but then it tells me it was unplugged, when I actually try unplugging it and plugging it back in I just get the device not recognized message, any suggestions?

I have the same yoke, rudder and throttle, but I have a problem. I have the latest drivers for them with windows 8 but when I fly after a while FSX stops responding. I then removed all Saitek and flew from the uk to usa with just a joystick and FSX is fine. It is only when I have the Saitek connected I have problems and cannot complete a flight. I have asked Saitek and other forums but I cant get any answers. Could you please give me some idea how you installed to make it work correctly. I thank you in advance. Thank you Ian

I think I've soon found all the reviews of this on youtube and asked the same question: What's your opinion on the detents, deadzone and pitch axis stickiness on the yoke that I hear so much about? Thinking of getting a yoke, and trying to decide whether to get this one or the Cessna yoke. Some people say the Cessna yoke is better in all 3 respects, others say it's pretty much the same. And while the standard yoke is apparently easy to mod to alleviate some of the issues, I haven't seen any mods for the Cessna yoke yet, which is said to be designed differently on the inside. So yeah, did you mod your yoke? How do you feel about the deadzone etc? Thanks for your input.

I have the Cessna yoke and it doesn't have the LCD screen [doesn't work with x plane 10] but apart from that it has all of the buttons and is great!

Reuben Allan Correct the Cessna yoke does not have the LCD screen. However, yes the Yoke does absolutely work in X-Plane - have made many of my X-Plane videos using it.

I have no rudder pedals can you think of a way in which i could use the rudder for when when i'm on the gound mostly? i am currently using the hat switch for left/right and up for centering which works kinda but isn't great, any ideas you could suggest would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not froogle, but I might be able to help. If you don't use them that much then the lateral two-way switch on the right hand side of the yoke might be possible. Or you can turn on auto-rudder and then turning the yoke will turn the wheels too.

Has anyone else had trouble mounting the throttles? I did my best, but the supplied black countersunk screws where simply too short to be of any use, and when I went to the shed for some 'real' screws, I striped the plastic thread in the mounting holes almost instantly. If I missed something or got a bad batch, please let me know.

A couple of questions, please can you tell me how you got a button on the yoke to work as push to talk for vatsim as I have tried this and can only get a keyboard button to work as any buttons on the Siatek yoke are not seen in the set up process. Secondly does the additional throttle quadrant have a USB plug as standard. Thanks.

+Zolitar Iglussey No, I tend to use either the GoFlight or Yoko yokes now all the time. I still regularly use the Saitek X-55 Rhino and I always use my Saitek pedals. My old yoke I recently gave away to a viewer in need.

Hey Froogle! I hope you or anyone else watching does, so if you do, please help me out here. I absolutely love my saitek yoke and throttle quadrant, but the yoke itself is very hard to fly with. When I pull up, it's like the damn thing gets caught up on something, so that makes me pull harder causing sudden movements and not allowing me to land well at all. Does anyone else here have that problem and or a solution to that problem?

Quick question (which I haven't been able to find an answer for on the internet): Are you able to mount a Saitek Instrument Panel above each of the Saitek Throttles? There seem to be four screw holes on the top mount of each throttle, but I have yet to find a photo online of a SIP mounted on top of them.

It was essentially made so that the Instrument panel goes on top of there. So yes, you can do that.
