Preach! Helpful tip: If you press Water Jet halfway through a Frostbolt cast, you can get 2 Fingers of Frost procs out of a singular Water Jet. Just thought I'd throw that tip out there. Keep up the good work!

Loving the guides Preach. It is good to see that you are encouraging people to use their full array of skills throughout fights including trash. I think that a lot of players just tunnel vision on one add/boss and forget about the rest, those are the ones still stuck in normal dungeons and LFR. Talking of LFR, worse run I have ever seen today, wiped 4 times on ko'ragh. Tanks did not switch agro when they got the expel magic arcane and they blamed the healers (which included me) for not dispelling.

Good guide. Only thing that's missing is how to get Finger of Frost procs from water jet. You have to hit the target that is being hit by the water jet with a ice bolt. If you time it right you can get 2. If you hit water jet right before your ice bolt finishes casting and cast quickly again you get two before water jet finishes.

Hey preach don't forget about that beautiful passive "shatter" with dungeon mobs especially. Ice nova damage becomes really nasty when you go in, cast your pre cast frostbolt and half way through the frostbolt do your pet freeze on the mobs and at the end of the cast do your ice nova, that way that ice nova really shits on the mobs instead of just relying on the rng crit to get that nice damage

Hey preach love your vids helped a lot with my alts. I main a mage, always have and always will but still watch these guides for a bit of fun I noticed you were using Water Jet wrong (Or not to Its best potential) and didn't mention a couple of tips I think every frost mage needs to know Water Jet only lasts something like 4 seconds so there is no way you're going to get two FoF off a single one if you hit it before you cast a Frostbolt with travel time factored in. So you should cast Water Jet when you're half way through a Frostbolt, then cast Frostbelt again and then immediately hit Ice Lance. The reason you hit Ice Lance is you're guaranteed to get two FoF from the Water jet but there is a 10% chance that your second Frostbolt will also generate one and the Water Jet FoF doesn't register until the Frostbolt reaches the target so you don't munch it if you cast immediately. I think It's also worth mentioning that if you take Ice Nova, and there is going to be adds you can freeze (Like Ko'Ragh for example) then when you go to Ice Nova, If Freeze is off cooldown you should Freeze + Ice Nova at the same time. This way they will be frozen when you Ice Nova and It'll be an almost guaranteed Crit The other thing is if you take Prismatic Crystal you should not use Frozen Orb on Cooldown but rather when you put Prismatic Down. You get out less Frozen Orbs but It still works out better this way Still a good basic guide regardless and hopefully you intrigue and help people to play more of the best class in game

Two things I'd like to add: 1. Make sure you cast water jet when you're at least half way through your frostbolt cast to ensure that you can get two procs off it. 2. If you need to interrupt something and counterspell is on cooldown, use deep freeze if you've got a fingers of frost proc. It's a dps loss but sometimes it's more important to get the interrupt.

preach, if youre gonna tell ppl to use water jet with keybinds and off of autocast, at least use it correctly. u can easily get 2 fingers of frost out of it if u time it correctly altho the max u got from it was 1. u even had some where u got 0.... scrub. xD love u man keep it up

Like, its only use is not to proc ya 2 fingers of frost or what not, its simply giving you an equivalent to the freeze spell thats usable on a boss, its not really intended to be more than that. But of course we players are always trying to min max, so u can certainly make it so u proc 2 but thats not its main purpose.

Sergio Guerrero i completely disagree because the damage it does on its own it probably less than just letitng the water elemental cast its water bolts so if u use it for the damage of the jet itself instead of the 2 guaranteed procs u CAN get off of it and should, it's not even worth hitting the button as it is literally a dps down... u should always use it for the 2 procs and not for ANYTHING else unless they cahnge the skill

It seems like Frost is the only mage spec that is ever mentioned. Arcane and Fire are just left in the dust in terms of interesting mechanics.

probably because arcane just has the bad name from the troll 1 2 button rotation and people think they need crit up the asshole to make fire even remotely viable. Any real mage knows that all 3 specs are very fun to play as well as viable and it comes down to their preference I guess

sparticle100 It is sad. Out of the many mages I have seen in BGs and dugneons, only about 3 have been arcane and maybe 2 have been fire. It may just be confirmation bias, but it seems like Frost mages vastly outnumber the other mage specs, and this seems to have been the case (at least in my experience) in MoP as well.

it's because it's good with low gear, arcane /fire (for multi targets) can do a better in most encouters

CaptmagiKono Until WoD I would have agreed with you however with the frost nerfs, arcane and fire buffs both have become more popular. I see a decent amount of mages branching out to fire (not many arcane even though they're the new destro locks of mop {in the way that they're turrets of insane damage when they're allowed to stand still} Frost would still be the most popular which is accountable to the fact it's been the best mage spec for PvP for the last 4 expacs and people are always nervous about moving out of their comfort zone.

Hey preach looking through the comments and seeing people tell you about being able to get 2 FoF procs from water jet but you can actually get 3. You just cast frost bomb (if you take it), then cast frost bolt and during the cast you start water jet then cast frost bolt again immediately after followed by an ice lance as fast as possible. This way if you multistrike the either of the frost bolts you end up getting 3 stacks of FoF.

Preach, if you use Water Jet half way through your Frostbolt cast, you can get a second frost bolt in before it ends for 2 fingers of frost. Others have said this but I didn't want to be a twat about it. Looking forward to arcane and fire. :)

The only thing here is Freeze, it should barely ever be used unless you really need the procs quickly. The 10k something damage on Water Jet shouldn't be ignored and it's imperative that you get 2 procs off of it by just casting it at the end of your frostbolt, depending on the range of your target.

With water jet you can normally get two ice lance procs just a little thing I noticed.

Preacher you got the waterjet's ability completly wrong, you gain a procc for every frostbolt that hit the target with waterjet on it, meaning you should use it just as frostbolt is flying through the air to be able to gain 2-3 proccs. the way you used it here you hardly got any procc at all from it.

Good video Preach but I use a very different set of talents. Frost bomb is superior to Ice nova in this patch because as frost nova provides a huge burst, frost bomb provides you with constant damage every time you have an finger of frost proc (not to mention frost bomb procs multistrike). Then there is the talent 100, Prismatic cristal is for now the best option, as it not only amplifies your damage and provides massive amounts of burst but paired with frost bomb on top there is no better opener for frost mages. Finally it shares a decently short cooldown of 2 minutes so you can pair it up with your frozen orb and water jet for a mid boss burst.

I like alter time for sky reach and other places can do alot of cheeky stuff on 2nd boss with the beams u can sit there all day and the quills u can go behind the Pilar and alter time and go out and dps the boss can't wait for 6.1 for the lower cd and evanesce fix

Hey Preach i really enjoy my frist mage. I love the amount of aoe damage you can do with Prismatic Crystal, Frost Bomb, Frozen Orb and Icy Veins. I don't think there is a class as good as frost mage burst aoe.

Everyone pointing out preach failing on water jet but remember this is a basic guide. He does this in every guide gives wrong info or leaves important things out. These are not meant to be mythic lvl guides.

It's a pretty basic thing to get wrong. Also, the way he always presents it is that the guides are to get people to top DPS meters and be the best of the best in a raid setting. You aren't going to top anything or be the best if you can't use Water Jet properly.

My Frost Mage guide = don't worry about your dps - you're a frost mage, 90% of whom will be at the bottom of any recount chart anyway...but don't get so lazy that you get kicked out of your group. (either be a female character or an engineer who can drop repair bots...this will help you not getting kicked).

Hmmm? Frost mages are very, very competetive when it comes to DPS. They can absolutely hold their own compared to all other classes in a raid environment. The frost mages in my guild are doing very well indeed. Arcane mages are a bit stronger in my opinion and experiance so far in Highmaul, but frost is not at all far behind. (and more fun to play)

TheOdMan I know frost mages are supposed to be good dps, but I rarely see it...like I said with my own experience and watching dps charts...the vast majority of mages are on the bottom...you'll occasionally see some hardcore expert wiping the floor with everyone, but I was just trying to say "as a frost mage, be extra nice to everyone in your group so that they don't (justifiably) kick you out"

Let me break this down for the comment section. According to sim crafts, arcane is great. That's not true. There are no fights in HM where arcane is allowed it's full potential (except for butcher), and even then I think it struggles to keep up with frost. Fire is good at 670+ ilevel, but only on multiple target fights. Other then that, frost is the way to go, atleast if you're competitive in the PvE environment.

preach you are using water jet completely wrong. aways cast water jet in the middle of your frostbolt cast. then you can get 2 frostbolt casts off during water jet. and therefor also get 2 stacks of FoF
