The helium thing is only kind of true. We have a reserve of helium thats like a stockpile. However the earth still produces natural gases like helium that we can collect more and even then eventually we can get to the point where we can manufacture our own helium

From what I’ve read balloons barely take up any helium compared to things like MRI. The deposits aren’t completely gone either it will just take a long time to naturally build up again. We can make synthetic helium in the meantime. More of a hassle but definitely doable.

America bought a bunch back when airships was a big thing, but once people stopped bothering with that stuff, we just started selling to whoever would buy it. We can mine for more if we wanted to, it’s just that there’s really no need for it for a long time now.

Helium quite literally floats away, so all our viable sources are from under ground. It's often a byproduct of natural gas harvesting. The underground deposits come from the very slow accumulation of alpha particles emitted by radioactive decay of some metals in some of the minerals underfoot. I wanna say some types of granite, amongst others, but I could be wrong. ...so yeah there's a finite amount of proven reserves. It might be less of an issue with higher temperature superconductors, but for now stuff like MRI machines could be impacted by market volatility in the helium supply.
