Making clear Ice: get a cooler fits in your freezer and break the lid off. Fill it with water and freeze. The insulated nature of the cooler will force the water to freeze from the top down pushing the impurities to the bottom. The key here is to catch it half frozen so you just get one large block of clear ice that you can cut into cubes.
@MrAqr25985 жыл бұрын
Matt Ewald I also use that technique. One more note: The recommended freezing time is about 24~36 hrs. at -20℃(-4°F)

I am from a town in Norway called Kragerø that got rich by exporting ice, wood, coal and selling ships. Norway actually used ice like refrigurators before the guy you talked about in the video started to use ice like a freezer. They also drank cold water in Norway all the time before because in the winter the water is really cold here by default and in the summer in North-Norway and by the mountains the water is full of small ice shards or it is freezing cold. Bet you did'nt know that about Norway, did you?

Quentin Livezey Except for the SuperCarlinBrothers' theory of the supers of The Incredibles getting their powers from the US government (not inherited), and that Frozone is black and Elsa is white. And when I mean black & white, I mean Elsa could get lost in the snow, and The Incredibles takes place in the mid 1960s, so the chances of Frozone's parents/ancestors being interracial are slim.

Alia The answer is yes. The crystal structure of the ice causes it to expand anyway making it lighter than same volume of unfrozen water. The bubbles are just the air that was in the water before it froze so it doesn't make any difference to buoyancy because that air is also in the water itself.

for clear ice, you will need a insulated cooler of at least 3 liter volume. fill it with water and put it into the freezer, with the top lid open. that way the water will directional freez from the top to the bottom without leaving impuritys, but only if you pull out the coler before the entire thing is frozen solid. the impuritys happen at the end of the freezing process. it will take some trial and error to find the right timeframe inside the freezer, but basicly thats how you make clear ice. after that, you can put it with a long knife and a wooden hammer into shape. have fun ;-)

Restaurants make clear ice. I think they put the freezing water in a vacuum so air bubbles can't form even with impurities
This theory may be true but as you quoted in the video by Kristof "you want to talk about supply and demand? I sell ice for a living." In the movie Elsa only froze the town and quite a bit around it, she didn't freeze around the whole world. Since the rest of the world isn't frozen demand would only go down in the town. the statement you said earlier is also incorrect. You said something along the lines of "why do they harvest ice when they have an abundence of it" they only had an abundence because of elsa. It isn't always winter or winter temp, in the movie a few people complained about the cold in the summer. which means they aren't used to it being cold in the summer. you could also argue that the mountain maintains an ice lake due to cold temperatures. However, if that were the case the spa would have the "winter selection" for tourists who want to climb the mountain. But they switched it out for their summer selection. Kristof only works in the winter, he came to the spa and didn't relise they wouldn't have enough of the product he wanted because when he usually buys it they have a wide selection. He only went ice harvesting because of the opportunity, that's why he's the only one there looking to harvest. they don't typically harvest in the summer, so what he said about supply and demand would only concern the town not shipping to the world since demand for ice would be high in the summer across the world. They most likely save the ice in the winter for the town in the summer
@Ibbyjane278 жыл бұрын
They have an abundance because it's norway, not because of elsa. They harvested ice when she was a little girl, she didn't freeze the town then. Norway has warm summers, and cold winters. Supply and demand....they didn't need ice, but a loooot of countries needed it.

You should watch season 4 Of once upon a time , not that accurate but it has a nice idea where the snow queen is her aunt .

I think Elsa and Anna's mum kind of looks like Rapunzel's dad so I say Rapunzels's mum was an adventurer and went to wear Moana lives saw the Golden flower that you see at the start of the movie and when she was having Rapunzel she ate the Golden flower then when her brother Elsa and Anna's dad had Elsa there powers joint to Rapunzel so they both have powers. Simple he made a video about it called why Elsa has powers I think???

That is untrue. Ice trade is not dead. Many stores sell ice. some people even sell ice on the street.
@rollingthunder10436 жыл бұрын
A year late, I know, but this came up in my feed. He didn't say the ice trade is dead. He said the NATURAL ice trade is dead, as in going out to a frozen lake and hacking off cubes of the stuff to sell. Virtually if not all ice sold today in convenience stores/streetside vendors is manufactured artificially, which as he said allows better quality control, and is frankly much less of a pain.

Wanna know what I want to know where did Elsa get her powers
@Jason_Altea8 жыл бұрын
There are many theories, but the movie said she was born with them, so the most commonly accepted theory is that Elsa is Rapunzel's twin, and was adopted by her aunt and uncle, the King and Queen of Arendel. Since she was born with the magic flower's power in her dna, it makes sense that one would have the power to heal, and the other would have the power of "destruction", aka, ice magic.
@friccle_8 жыл бұрын
youd think itd be death
@Jason_Altea8 жыл бұрын
Shel And Boxten Well, it's a healing flower, and it's Disney, so, destruction. It's more like Rapunzel has the power of life/death and Elsa has the power of creation/destruction. That's a better explanation, anyway.
@KatzePiano8 жыл бұрын
If you want to go by Once Upon a Time (which is owned by Disney), then it runs in the family. Elsa has an Aunt who is the Snow Queen of the original story.

I think the primary use of ice back then was for cooling food, not to put in water. You keep the ice in an "icebox." Meat, milk, butter, etc could be kept in there. New ice would be delivered daily, by the "iceman," and milk, by the "milkman." After purifying the water, you need it in a VERY smooth container, and you'll need a means of circulating the water, to free any trapped air as the water freezes. Something that rocks the container back and forth might help, and be simpler than working out a pump.
@jotabe17898 жыл бұрын

Americans serve bad quality beer "ice cold" because serving it that cold numbs the tongue and makes it tastless. In the UK we solve this problem by making good quality beer and serving it at "cellar temperature" which is about half way between room temperature and ice cold. It's warm enough to actually taste the nicely flavoured beer but not warm.
@LtBasil8 жыл бұрын
+1984Logic Don't care either way what quality it is, beer is beer and it will always reek like a camel's rear end. Warm or cold, the smell is still there. And it is still one of the foulest odors known to mankind.

@williambarnes50238 жыл бұрын
To make clear ice, you need to get all the dissolved air out of it. When ice freezes it can no longer hold dissolved air. If the released air can't escape, you get a speck of white in your ice where the air was. Boiling your water makes it release all the dissolved air. Then it will freeze clear. It's not a purity thing. You don't need reverse osmosis. You need stale flat water.
@chrisblake39848 жыл бұрын
+William Barnes I dunno,,, you sure it's not magic?
@ryvir19018 жыл бұрын
+William Barnes ^^^ Yes, this. Though purity is important, especially if you're trying to use tap water. Boil, then let it sit for a day or three in a clean environment, then cool it slowly. You can also partially freeze ice cubes, then cut them in half, letting the remaining liquid out. I wonder if freezing a glass from the bottom up would produce clear ice...?
@williambarnes50238 жыл бұрын
Liese M It would produce broken glass.
@mason89718 жыл бұрын
So I should boil water, let it sit for an hour, then freeze it?
@mason89718 жыл бұрын
+Liese M that's what I thought. But since ice floats on water, The ice would rise and maybe disturb the waters surface. That might cause air to get mixed into the water again. I am not sure though. The only way to find out is by trying.

Ooh! I know! I know! Thank goodness for high school chemistry. Starting with filtered or distilled water is the best way, so you are halfway there. Next, boil the water to remove dissolved gasses. Then let it cool slightly (enough not to scald yourself) before pouring it into the ice cube tray, or other vessel. Freeze from hot. This should work. Try it, and let me know how it goes.

... There's more to it than just "cold drinks". They would dig out cellars and keep ice in it to sell to people so they could keep things fresh (milk, eggs, etc.). Have you ever seen or heard of an ice box? You seriously put a huge slab of ice on the bottom of one side of a wooden box and have a pan to catch the dripping water. On the other side was most of the stuff you put in your fridge, and if things needed to be colder they'd put it on the side with the ice to keep it colder. You're missing a lot of information -.-
