I use our citrus peels to make a citrus vinegar that is great for cleaning and smells better than plain vinegar. The oils are a good grease cutter to use in the kitchen for cleaning. I also clean mirrors or the bathroom sink and counters.

I don't buy brown sugar any more. I use 1.5 teaspoons of molasses (more or less) in 1 cup white granulated sugar to use in my recipes. One less thing to buy and no brown bricks of hard sugar to find in the back of my cupboard. I also make my own pancake syrup using that same brown sugar and a bit of vanilla flavoring. I found that recipe in my Fanny Farmer Boston Cooking School cookbook I received as a wedding present in 1968. So happy to have found your channel!

Here is a tip for you that is very frugal and great for substitutes.....3 Tbsp aquafaba, which is the liquid that is left in the can chickpeas, can be substituted for one egg in baking. Works like a charm! So if you're ever out of eggs or you need to save your eggs for something else you can use this. And I always make roasted chickpeas so I always have some aquafaba laying around. Now this is definitely something that I used to throw out that I now save! I'm going to start saving my orange peels because this looks amazing. Also, love live love theses "use it up" videos. That's half the battle....if we can just find a way to use all the food we buy we are saving money, and being better stewards of the groceries we buy. I hate throwing away food thatch purchased. It's so wasteful and I feel bad when I do it. Especially meat....because if an animal dies so we can eat I like to make SURE I've not made it due in vain. I raise my chickens so a lot of time and money goes into getting that chicken to the table, plus butchering costs....I have a couple come process my chickens.....so I make sure to have zero waste. So my meat is quite expensive but I love the product, I'm positive they lived a great life, were treated wonderful, ate great food, and don't have hormones and antibiotics pumped into them.

These are great ideas! Through the winter months, I bake pumpkins whole after washing them well. After allowing them to cool enough to handle, I tear off the tops and scoop out the seeds so that I can then peel out the pumpkin flesh and put it aside for pies, pumpkin soup, et cetera. Then I boil the baked skins/seeds for soup stock in water to cover about 2 inches and add a bay leaf if I have one. I do the same thing with hard squash. I'm not interested in roasting the seeds raw, and I find pumpkins and hard squash difficult to cup up raw. This stock is really good; it freezes well; and I sub it out for chicken stock all the time. This is another good way to put food to good use that would otherwise be discarded. Happy Holidays!

You have such great ideas. I love using orange rind to make marmalade yum. I also add it to sugar and use the flavoured sugar in cakes. Loved the apple idea might be nice with puff pastry as tarte tatin. Cheers

Great ideas! Yes, I kept the sugar that fell off the rinds to sweeten my tea! So good! Thanks so much for watching!
