Amen! Everyone has their own priorities! I just retired at 54. I just recently started doing my own nails. I used to pay $40 every 4 to 6 weeks to get them professionally done. I still plan on getting them professionally done in December, because I’m getting married and want them to look better. I own my home and car and my bills are low. I can afford to pay cash to get them done. I agree it is a personal decision. Love your videos!

A good friend of mine ran a church thrift shop. She found me the most beautiful Mother of the Bride dress. It was the perfect dress. It was like it was made for me. The best part was it only cost me $10.00. It was so great. I was able to have a beautiful dress, and use the money I didn’t spend toward something else for the wedding.

You always need to know why you do what you do. The reason I am frugal is so that I can occasionally take a friend out for dinner and spend $100 on a great experience. The rest of the time I spend no more than $1 a day per person to eat well. We are way ahead financially and could afford to spend hundreds of dollars a month. I'd rather have a home that is paid for and no debt and no worries. It makes the occasional $100 experience much more enjoyable.

Hi Emmy and Paul. I am sorry you had that experience Emmy. You have a paid for house and live a debt free life, I think you can afford to have Dixie's nails done too. 😂 I think some people are just mean for the sake of being mean. Everyone has their own journey. I remember Dave Ramsey once said that it's your money, you deicide how you're going to spend it. If you love to eat pizza, then make an envelope for pizza. As long as you budget for something you want then there's no problem.

It’s what gives them “joy,” going from channel to channel spreading a mean spirit. Personally, for comments of that nature I would ignore, delete, and block if necessary. Such a wonderful topic Emmy! Thank you! I dealt with this recently. I had made a thoughtful decision along with my husband to finally start saving for a new sewing machine, mind the word "saving". Several people close to me thought it was outrageous, why? Because the machine is a 1,300.00 machine. Yes it is a lot of money. However unless they are me, they truly can not understand. I don't spend on so many other things. But I have a hobby of sewing. And I love it! I sew for my family, mend, make gifts for almost all birthdays and holidays. I am also able to bring in additional income if needed. I reached a point where I desired a higher end machine to match my advanced sewing skills and projects. And no, it's not a "necessity". It really is about personal priorities and it is just not the same person to person. Frugality does not mean you do not ever get to spend on something that is simply wanted. It means financial freedom to choose what is important to you and what is not. P.S. I loved the potato puffs! Looking forward to trying the chicken patties.
@tugboatgirl12963 жыл бұрын
Those people commenting about the cost should be shamed. They obviously don’t know your love of sewing and that you are frugal in the sense of spending your money for something special and meaningful in your life. ❤️ Hope you get it have gotten your new machine so that it can start sewing. I too love sewing and crafts. My mom (RIP) years ago bought and gave me a Bernina which I thought was soooo pricey but I’ve made and gifted many thing on it. Plus my mom’s right there beside me Remember that those people are probably ones who spent frivolously on things you do not. 😀

This may be my favorite video yet! So true. I can remember countless times when I've "judged". For example I saw a mom wearing an apple watch and YSL purse let her child's mosquito bites get super red and swollen because she knew she had a tube of ointment somewhere in her house and she wasn't going to waste money by buying another. She eventually found the ointment, by then she had ordered take out, gotten her nails done etc, but having duplicates of the ointment was wasteful and unthinkable for her.

It is completely right for the baby to sleep under the covers!! 😊 ... Great video. I've had comments kind of like that. From my family! Lol. Peeps think frugality means never spending any money on yourself. Lol. They actually judge and think they have the right to decide what we can and shouldn't buy. I say I budgeted for it. Then I'll say tend to your own business. Statements like that are meant to "catch you" to prove we're not frugal. The manner in which frugality is practiced by individuals is subjective. There is no room for people to impose their interpretation upon others. We as individuals structure this principle in a manner that reflects our own needs & goals not those of others. It is our role to support not judge.

Yes nobody has the right to judge anyone, and it is everyone's different priority that guides their frugality. My mother had this problem. She had a cleaning person. Her sister-in-law used to bash her all the time about how that money could be spent elsewhere. It was none of her business! My mother budgeted and cut out in other areas. She also went to the beauty parlor once a week to do her hair and nails. It made her feel good, and they had the money to do it. I do go to the salon to have my hair cut. I color my hair, do my own nails and feet, clean my own house and wash my own car. My mother thought I was too frugal and said so. I reminded her of how she felt when her sister in law did the same thing to her, and she stopped. My mother is long gone. She made the right decisions for her.

This was so needed! I just mentioned to my husband this morning, I’m so surprised by how negative people can be when the are behind their computers. Kindness is critical on this journey if we are all going to succeed. You are spot on! None of our journeys are the same. If they were, we would probably never learn anything new! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for shining a light on this. It’s cold, Dixie should be tucked in ❤️

Hello my friend. You are right , everyone's priorities and circumstances are different. I look at it this way, when you start paying my bills then you can dictate where the money goes.

That is a compliment to you if someone is accusing you of doing your nails professionally when you don't! I have to be careful not to criticize someone for spending on something I see as a waste of money because I spend where others would not. And I consider myself frugal too! Everyone's frugal journey is different, like you have said many times. There are places that I don't spend so I can spend in other ways. Right now, my son and his wife are 15 hours away. There is no getting around traveling, but we cut cost where we can when we travel and we live a little tighter on the home front so we can have the money to go see them. Someone might criticize me for not going out to eat or spending money some other way but they see me go on these trips to Virginia to see my son. It's like eating a candy bar and drinking a diet drink with it. We sacrifice in one area in order to be able to do something else!

Love the diet soda analogy!! You got it! Thank you Laurie!

Great video. I look at it this way. Lol it's like a frugal quilt. You are giving us a pattern to follow but we choose the fabric. My fabric might include manicures and good wine. Someone else's might include good sheets and quality coffee.

We are camping this week for my birthday 🥳 and I’m super happy to watch a video from you!! I returned stuff this week again. Brand new that I had never used. I was going to purchase a dehumidifier for our camper and after seeing the prices we decided to just get a damp rid instead 😂

I remember a work friend calling me out at lunch about the amount I spent getting my hair cut and colored on a regular basis. I was always so frugal with our housing, food and clothing budget. We saved for cars and vacations. I didn’t get my nails done but it was important to me to have my hair done. I accounted for that. It hurt my feelings and she berated me in front of others, I lashed out. How dare she criticize me, she had her nails done every two weeks which by my estimation she was spending almost as much as I was on my hair plus she always went to all the country music concerts that came to town. Which by her own admission she spent a fortune on every concert season. I may have made my point but we were never that friendly after that. I did apologize to her but I it was never the same.

Glad you said your piece right then and there. She was absolutely rude and out of place to criticize and judge you. Probably jealous. Better you stay away from people like that. People like that like to berate others because they are really unhappy themselves

Thank you for pointing out that we all have different priorities. I recently made the choice to reduce the number of times I get my nails done professionally. I used to go every 2 weeks and now I go once a month. I choose to stop shopping at Macy’s and instead shop at Thredup. It’s all working out for ME. Good message Emy and Paul.

Hey Emmy and Paul, you've always stressed to do what's right for you when budgeting a everyones lives are different and as Dawn at Money Mom says that's why it's called personal finance. All I thought when I saw your nails in the last video and this one was how great they look! Those chicken patties looked delicious too and I had to laugh at Dixie being under the covers at the end of the video 🐶 No it's not wrong, I don't just let my cats stay where they are, I tuck them in as well if they're on the bed or sofa 😉😻❤

Great video, as always and I just have to thank you for extending God's wisdom and grace in response to the (anonymous person's) manicure comment. I know so many people/believers who would've been offended and reacted and the negative comments would've been pouring in. Such is the nature of the social media beast. Your response is exactly what it means to be the light (and the salt) in a world covered w/ darkness. GBU both, Paul & Emmy! 🌻

My sweet dear Emmy and Paul ❤, there will always be people who don't understand our way. I totally agree with you! YOUR tips have teached me to build a budget and stick to it. And now I sometimes can afford some little, very little things that are important for me, but may seem unimportant to other. Here is what I mean: I bought a really nice branded notebook to write down YOUR tips and challenges. For me it is very important AND I have budgeted for it. By the way: Your recipe.....oh my goodness❤❤. I wish you a wonderful and blessed day. Your Sabrina ( with a new picture😉)

We don't know what anyone else is dealing with, what their lives are like... and if, like you said... whatever is YOUR priority and yes during my journey I have caught myself being Judge Judy...and have had to have a talk to myself about it... thank you for reminding us to just take a step back and applaude these ppl for what they ARE accomplishing not how we think they should be getting their... I am too going to jump on the no/low spent Nov... as always thank you both (and Dixie) for your tips and direction...
