I just wanted to send a little something as a THANK YOU for making this video. Our 30-year-old dryer finally stopped heating yesterday, and I had no idea what to do except to start researching. I came across many websites, forums, manuals, and videos. However, YOUR video is the one that enabled me to fix my washer for $10.81. After testing everything as you had, it was actually my igniter that was bad. No reading on my volt meter. Picked up a new igniter this morning, volt meter showed a reading, installed it, and it fired right up and started heating again. Again, I cannot thank you enough for your commitment to your tutorials. The details, straight to the point cadence in your delivery...everything about it is fantastic. You have a new subscriber in me!!! Have a great week.

This is the best, comprehensive video out there. We were at Lowe's, ready to buy a new dryer, but they wouldn't mount a new dryer on an existing pedestal, so I looked up how to fix the dryer. March 2024. Can't thank you enough for this video. Our dryer quit heating up a couple of days ago. On our old dryer I had to replace the gas valve coils a couple of times and assumed the same this time but on this new dryer the igniter never did heat up. I was at a loss until I came across this video. A trip to Harbor Freight got me one of those multimeters for $4.92 at their parking lot sale! Turned out the thermal fuse was the culprit. I wouldn't have had a clue without seeing your video and probably would have been out several hundred dollars for a service tech. Instead, I was able to diagnose and repair it myself for around $21.00 total! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!💯

This lady is an expert. I watched 10 other videos trying to trouble shoot my Whirlpool Duet Dryer. They did not solve the problem. Luckily, I clicked on this presentation. It is a clear, concise and comprehensive look at the entire heating system. I watched it twice, before starting repairs. I did test the two fuses others discussed in other presentations, but had continuity with both of them. She led me directly through each component, where it is, how to get it out and how to test it. After watching twice and listening to her accompanying dialogue, I monitored the dryer after taking off the front lower cover. I was able to see that the burner would not relight after the initial cycle. The lady mentioned it would most likely be the two coils that were the culprit. Amazon and $8.40 later, the coils arrived. I watched their installation 3 more times to make sure it was right. NOW I'M A HERO! THANKS TO MS. FRUGAL!!!

Had no heat. Tested everything. Found no faults. It was apparently the 25 year accumulation of lint that blocked the view of the flame detector and stopped it from igniting. After a good cleaning it worked. Job was more tedious on my dryer because you have to remove the whole front for access to the burner assembly. Then you can't do any live testing without putting it back together. And yes, I watched several dryer youtubes and this was the best

One thing I learned about dryers, any of them, is that it’s vitally important to clean lint filter after each load. Sometimes, if I’m doing a lot of towels, in the middle of a load. This prevents fires and also helps increase the longevity of unit since the whole thing including motor is not overheating.
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
Great point! I agree 100%, Alex. Interestingly, after I thoroughly cleaned all lint from my dryer when I worked on it, it dries clothes in about 2/3 of the time now. When I was a youngster (many, many years ago), an older gentleman told me, "Young lady, take care of your things, and they'll take care of you." Boy, was he right!

Great video! I watched a different one which was also helpful but didn't explain as thoroughly as yours. So when I watched yours completely I was confident that my gas dryer needed a new thermal fuse. All long I thought at some point you were going to say "and this is the problem source" or something like that but then I get it at the end that if this dryer was drying intermittently then the problem would've been the coils. You left me wondering but that was cool! Thank you!

I fixed my dryer last year by cleaning a very fine build up lint that was blocking the cycling thermostat. Funny thing is NOBODY mentioned this in the videos I watched when I was trying to troubleshoot it last year- I discovered it on my own. I wish I would have found your video back then but at the same time it felt good to find the issue on my own! That and your video is better than ALL of the ones I watched when I had my issue last year. I have an issue now where the flame is blowing wildly instead of smoothly, causing it to trip the high limit thermostat. I have a good feeling my coils are failing. Thank you for this great video as it was a great refresher!

I was just about ready to junk my dryer and buy a brand new one. Watched several videos on this type of repair. The unit that you are working on is almost identical to mine. Your thorough explanation gave me the confidence that I needed to tackle this project. I tested all of the parts that you described here. Ultimately the issue in my unit was the very first fuse that you tested. That part was $5 for two of them on Amazon. I was about to throw away a perfectly working dryer for $2.50. Just for kicks, I replaced all of the parts for a grand total of $52.65 in parts. And the dryer… Works like new! Thanks a bunch! I wish I could give you 100 likes!

I have a fluke 117 that I haven't used much but today is the day to play with it as my gas dryer stopped heating. I can't believe how much lint is inside the unit. I cleaned my exhaust line 3 weeks ago (26 feet) but the inside is worse. I replaced the coils many years ago and the dryer has been working just fine until this week. Great video and it helped a lot - although my Kenmore dryer might be a newer design because it's very different from what I see here. The burner is on the other side. The blower is not inside the cabinet, it's on the back bulkhead (along with the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat). Speaking of cycling thermostrat, on my dryer, searspartdirect refers to is as a "drying thermistor" and it has two pins, not four. You test it by removing it from the dryer, then measuring the resistance as you blow hot air from a hair dryer on it. You should see the resistance decrease. I just got done testing everything and all components passed - but my dryer's burner shuts off a few seconds after it ignites so I suspect the coils. However the ducting and exhaust had quite a bit of lint so my first move is to clean all that out and see if that fixes it.
@flooey5807 ай бұрын
And indeed it was the coils. As you cautioned in the video, they tested good - but failed under operation. All fixed now - $17 at Amazon! Thanks again for making this video - it's by far the most informative appliance "fix it yourself" vid I've seen on youtube.
@fitnesscanbefree18364 ай бұрын
Thanks for the video...while I was unsuccessful, I feel I learned a lot and gained a confidence boost. Before I bought a multimeter, I arbitrarily decided to replace the thermal fuse and coils. Since that didn't help, I replaced the igniter, which also didn't help. I then wised up and bought a multimeter. Turns out, all of those components had the appropriate continuity or readings within the right ranges. However, the cycling thermostat (2nd item you checked) did not seem to have continuity. However, the replacement also didn't have continuity. It didn't seem to be exactly like yours...there weren't 4 wire connections, only 2. So not sure how that should have been tested. In any case, I ended up having a service person come, who diagnosed the issue as a bad control panel. They don't manufacture the control panel anymore, and seemed to be $150+ on ebay. I opted to buy a more analog used dryer gor $50 on facebook. I did install it myself. Either way, though I wasted some money on non-refundable parts, I got my hands working and gained some education, I really feel a more can do attitude, largely inspired by this video and that experience. Thank you!

Excellent video, very well explained and each part reviewed, my dryer has precisely that fault that in the first cycle there is a flame, in the second the same but in the third not anymore, I am going to check it, Greetings from Mexico.

Hi Frugal, thanks for your video. I have an LG DLEX3700V dryer that's giving me the error code TE1. I looked it up online and found that it might be a bad thermistor. I ordered a new one (model 6323EL2001B) and replaced it. I measured the resistance of the old one, which was about 8K ohms, and the new one reads around 10.8K ohms. From what I found online, the normal range should be around 11K ohms, so I think the new thermistor is fine. I also tested the round thermal fuse you mentioned in your video, and it reads 0.04 ohms, which seems normal. I took apart the vent and cleaned everything, inside and out. There’s no dust or blockage near the two sensors. After reassembling everything, I double-checked all the connections to make sure they're tight. I also measured the resistance at the yellow and blue wires leading into the control board, and it shows around 10K ohms, which means the connection to the board should be fine. Once I put everything back together, I reset the dryer by holding the start button for five seconds while it was unplugged. But when I powered it back on, it ran for a few seconds and then showed the TE1 error again. I tried restarting it a few times, but the TE1 error keeps coming up. Do you think this could be a control board issue? The board is pretty expensive, so I don’t want to buy one without being sure. Could you help me figure out how to use a multimeter to test the board and what kind of readings I should be looking for to determine if the board is bad? Thanks for your time, and I really appreciate any help you can offer!
