Many greens, especially spinach, contain a lot of oxylates (plant toxins).

Should also consider rice and honey. Both last for ever without the need for refrigeration.

I always have at least 100 lbs of rice and pinto beans each. I also have other types of beans as well. I have a lot of powdered milk and eggs, among other things. In an emergency situation, I have enough food and water to last a couple of years. I have ways to keep the water fresh which a lot of people forget.

@@4BearWarrior People do overlook water, thinking it will always run out of the tap and be clean and drinkable. Having some water treatment tablets also appears to be a good idea as they last years if stored correctly and can ensure rain water turns into potable water.

The pull tab cans are scored for easy open but it’s also easy rust decay. They don’t keep. Buy dry whenever possible.
@rogerking309916 сағат бұрын
We used to put the cans into vacuumable bags and store them under a vacuum. Stops the rust. Vacuum storage also works for dry food as it prevents damage if the food is in a water accident.

Beans Corn and rice provide complimentary proteins, Like Meats but without the fats or wasted feed. And a bit of dried smoked meat reconstituted in chili Stirfry or stew makes any beans and More appealing .

Canned legumes will go bad as well as canned fish. Get everything you can dried. If needed you can plant the dried beans and lentils and grow your own.
@MarkLadwig-p3hКүн бұрын
And with potatoes you can plant them in a 5 gallon bucket or trash cans adding dirt as they grow. This will fill the whole thing with potatoes.

Actually, canned legumes and fish last extremely well - well beyond the expiry dates. In fact, in 2022 I discovered a can of salmon with an expiry date in 2017 - nothing at all wrong with it. The only things you can't keep too long beyond expiry are acidic foods like tomatoes because they react with the cans.

Additionally, if you aren't able to cook, you won't be able to eat your dried beans.
