We grow our own tomatoes and can them as well as other vegetables and make our own pickles, dill and bread and butter. My husband’s family has chickens and we get eggs free and we buy a cow each year with our 3 children and their families to share and also a hog. We have a business nearby that slaughters and packages the meat and will do the same for any wild game that you kill. My husband and sons hunt so we also have game in the freezer throughout the year. We are so lucky to have this bounty available to us to cut grocery cost.

Now is the time of year I get a years supply of butter. We go through a pack a week on average so I get 50 to sixty packs when I can get them for 2.00. I know its 120.00 on butter but is saves a ton of money over the year. At a normal price of 5.79 for a pack it's an amazing find. I budget to spend this yearly. I buy flour, rice, oats sugar in bulk from a restaurant supply, generally in 25 pound bags......which is roughly 2.5 times the price of normal size so it's a bargain as well. I feed 4 teens, 3 of which are boys and my daughter and myself so it's absolutely necessary to shop smart. I remember when I could buy frozen pizzas.....not anymore I have to make them because it would cost a fortune. I made 4 pizzas for dinner last night....probably pennies on yeast, salt ,olive oil, sugar and flour. Homemade pizza sauce from my home canned tomatoes so its essentially free, pennies on herbs and spices for the sauce and 4 bucks for pepperoni, buy one get one free too, and 7.99 for the mozzarella. But keep in mind I still have a lot of cheese left over a whole other pack of pepperoni and half a jar of pizza sauce so is this bencheley $6 for four pizzas is my estimation maybe seven but it's minimal and that's how we have to eat cuz these kids will eat me out of house and home. I have found some really good recipes that are Staples for things like pizza dough that doesn't need to rise I can get home from work get out my mixer and have for pizzas made and in the oven and ready to eat in an hour. And they are delicious

Newman's Own is the only frozen pizza I buy. I love the Margarita pizza and the white pizza that has spinach and mushrooms. His supreme is good too but I don't get that one unless the store is out of the other two. I like it too that it has no artificial anything and no preservatives, etc. I'll have to give ALL laundry detergent a try. I've never used it. That's a great apple corer/peeler. I got apples today for apple crisp too. It's my favorite fall goody. I didn't get ice cream though because I'd eat the whole thing container. lol I got heavy cream to make whip creme. Speaking of Taste of Home magazines. Did you ever try the apple/blueberry crisp that was in one of the issues? It was the best crisp dessert I've ever had. I was thinking too that you should have used all the butter. It looked delish though! I did step out of budget at the grocery store today. :( The End. lol
