I lived in Bangkok for 30 years and almost never walked around durning the day. In my opinion you don't live outdoors when you live in a big city. I would spend midday in the lobby of my favorite hotel where friends would stop by for a chat and a coffee. Later it was off to the gym to workout and play squash. After sauna, jacuzzi and cold plunge it was finally time to head out to the streets and nightlife. Sometimes I had to work and that was always in an air-conditioned space.

Did you ever move to any of the islands? Ive never understood how people can live in the City .... I feel its more to visit rather than to live.
@villagefarang4 ай бұрын
@@FruitingBodyPodcast I came from Hawaii and went back yearly to visit my parents for many years. That gave me enough island time and without all the toys I had growing up in Hawaii I didn't enjoy the beach as much here in Thailand. I was looking for something new and different, and I found that in Bangkok. Eventually I moved to Chiang Rai when I once again felt like a change.

@villagefarang .... ya I am thinking chiang mai one day .. the issue will be smokey season... you basically need to leave for 2 to 3 months of the year
@villagefarang4 ай бұрын
@@FruitingBodyPodcast I am older now so have found ways of adapting to the smoky season. I have a big house with great HEPA filters and spend more time indoors. It sure is great when the rainy season starts again like it has recently. It is nice to get out in the mountains again.

Pattaya does have an airport and has daily flights to Phuket and Samui and Dubai and a few others. Qatar used to fly it. Hua Hin is getting a flight to SIN or KUL soon. I assume Air Asia since they already fly to Hua Hin.

Interesting. While Im back in shitty cold Melbourne, the darl is in Siem Reap. She's outside every day at her market stall.. but it's been heaps cooler there for a month. You would expect temperatures traded between coastal Thailand and Siem Reap. But no....What the hell is behind this Thai weather??

The heat can be unbearable in Thailand, I agree. However, ONS data in the UK shows that deaths from cold weather were between 13,400 to 60,500 over a ten year period. While deaths from Heat in Thailand are between 37 and 61. I know where I would rather be.

@@FruitingBodyPodcast No, Hua Hin is one of the few public airports without insane landing fees. Phuket Airpark is a private owned field. Yeah not cheap.
