Yeah…Each of us have our reasons pero what resonated the most is about the system dito sa bansa…I think we’re doing ok where we are but yung quality of life and safety is what I’m after…I’m a part of the system din sa teaching and I’m not happy na…like I’m an excellent worker but ipinagkakait ang promotion because I don’t know how to play office politics…plus education has become so mediocre na and too complicated…Isali mo pa yung issues about discpline, parent issues, etc…etc…So yeah…I just hope my prayers will be granted to eventually make it in Ca. As Ms Sigrid said, I love the Philippines but I love my children more!

Hi Ina, you’re right to say that not all who chose to leave the country are poor. I’m a successful doctor in the Philippines but decided to leave because I reached the peak of my career. I didn’t see any professional growth and I left Philippines when I turned 50. I shared same reasons to majority who came to Canada. I don’t regret coz I’m experienced to be an ordinary person in Canada. I like to share my story in your blog but I want to remain anonymous coz I’d been interviewed several times by media people.

Sobrang inspiring niyo Sigrid! My wife and I are also in the same set up with you here in Vancouver. I agree it's not perfect but at least here we feel that we have a more even playing field opportunity wise, and better government services.

Until 2020 (pandemic), most lifelong Canadians would have proudly & quickly said Canada is a great place. For multiple generations (young & old). It still is in many ways. But like all countries, a bunch of things have made life more difficult lately. During the COVID lockdowns, many people went wild wanting to buy a house (urban & rural). Increasing demand and rising prices. Not long after, inflation caused mortgage rates especially to rise. Rent costs soared too. People interested in working in hospitals declined. Less doctors etc.. Simultaneously in Canada, the number of people coming by air, land and boat to claim asylum skyrocketed. For example, in 2023 alone, in just one region (Central Canada) around 400 people arrived per day (on average). Ditto for other populated provinces. Also the number of international students SKYROCKETED too. In 2023, averaging around 2,000 per day across Canada. Hospitals then hit with many wanting free healthcare. Less doctors/nurses etc., means greater waiting times. A severe housing crisis has occurred in many western countries including in Canada. In ways not seen in people's lifetimes. The majority trying to migrate to Canada recently have been from South Asia. And it's become extremely obvious to Canadians. Even those that are very used to much diversity & many cultures. Plus neighborhoods now know that international students are primarily using a 'back door' ticket to come to Canada for permanent residency. No one says it in public amongst strangers, but everyone knows because they've witnessed the extreme PR frenzy firsthand by now. To many Canadians it has felt like a huge tidal wave that has reached all cities, and even all small towns, with a post secondary school. This extreme situation NEVER existed prior to 5 years ago. Bottom-line. Now westerners want the money greedy agents (pseudo smugglers) in other countries to stop marketing/lying to their own people about access to PR or citizenship … or accommodation/jobs … being easy (to get). And for any greedy people living in western countries to be ashamed of themselves if they're hurting students. People doing things to make $ off of people's PR desires or desperation. At best, there is a 30% chance of gaining PR (unless you are masters or in medicine etc). Not all players across the board have acted honestly over the years, i.e. false asylum claims, contract marriages (IELTS spouse), anchor babies, fraud. Canada has asked the India government to prevent “ghost consulting”. The PRIVATE (non-public) colleges are especially being investigated (including looking for very strong oversea ties). Canadians are meeting students who showed Canada they have savings to live off, but it turns out some only borrowed it for the application process. Canadian food banks and other charity services have been advertised on KZbin (by India students in Indian language). Many transit services have launched stricter rules, i.e. lost bus passes registered in your name are now NEVER replaced (unlike before). Then this year throw in all the Palestinian vs Israeli angry protests happening regularly in cities. Plus the Sikh vs Hindu violence/extortion primarily happening in Ontario and British Columbia. Plus the Canadian government also recently launched investigations in regards to foreign interference in Canadian elections. All stemming from Asia continent. Hate crimes have gone from rare to occasional (primarily South Asians against South Asians). Canadians are so so so not used to all this. So many, who have embraced multi-culturalism and immigration for decades are now very worried and fearful (due to all of the above). And all are praying it doesn't turn into great anger (like in the USA). Canadians want multi-culturism to succeed … and for all people to be okay. Everyone I know is very happy with Canada Immigration's recent changes (reductions & investigations). Including multi-generational Asian-Canadians where many have been the most upset (by all of this). PS Canadians LOVE people from The Philippines. Your culture is VERY liked and fits in VERY well.

I think Canada is not a good option kasi sobrang lamig jan. And tama ka traffic in the Philippines can be a reason why people leave.

Maybe some people immigrate to and live in Canada/ US not for more financial opportunities but more for “privilege” opportunities. Most people probably won’t admit but the status of being a “Canadian (or American) citizen, government protection for being such a citizen, the ability to travel to about 189 countries visa free, the power of the Canadian / American money, higher standardized home ownership, is more attractive than being just plainly “wealthy and well to do” in the Philippines. Whether we like to admit or not, “foreign based / resident” Filipinos feel a more privileged status within themselves and whether they care or not, they are perceived as someone of “higher standing” by their friends and loved ones in the Philippines. Lastly, whether we like to admit or not, we have the mentality of a better life by emigration to the western world. 17:25 Agreed. Government Corruption inspires emigration mostly of upstanding citizens who are dissatisfied with how the nation is run.

Mailap na mailap po hanggang ngayon ang ibig sabihin ng 'Public Servant'....in the truest sense of the word, ika nga.😿 Disclaimer: Hindi naman po lahat.💥 But I'm praying really hard that our loving God will intervene.🙏 To alleviate poverty & for Filipino families to get by really, really soon.🙏 This i must say, The Welfare of the People is the Supreme Law. Bagkus, mararanasan ng malaking porsyento ng populasyon ang magkakaroon ng magandang buhay, in our lifetime, hopefully.🙏 Thanks Ms Ina for sharing this video with us...sincerely appreciate it po.😘 Tc!⚘🍃⚘

I for one lived in the largest gated community in Muntinlupa for a few decades. Still decided to come to Canada for a better future not for me but for my kids. Till this day, seeing the kind of jobs & life of my kids have not an iota of regret. In fact, it was the best. Aside from this, I personally know a number of top executives in the largest banks, life insurance, pilots, persons collecting rents on numerous properties, etc in the community I lived also decide to come to Canada for their children

I don't need to sacrifice my career for my kids by moving to another country. My kids after they graduate from University can decide where they want to work and live. My daughter, for instance, wants to work in the UK after she graduates from College. I don't need to move the whole family to the UK so that my daughter can work there someday. She's perfectly capable mentally and physically to move there on her own when she reaches adulthood.

Ang gusto ko is LA kasi madaming gyms and spa. Ako lang yata natutuwa sa ganyan. An average Pinoy ang concern lang is trabaho, malaking sahod. Ung ganyang backward thinking. Tapos matinding traffic from point a to b wala ka nang naaccomplish naubos na lahat sa traffic.

Since you're getting Canadian benefits such as free schooling for your children, how do you declare your foreign earnings as well as assets to CRA. Is there a separate tax return you need to fill in?

I used to blame the govt too but sa ibat ibang admin ng govt thru the decades , lagi naman may problema. Let’s admit, it’s more complicated. Ppl will migrate for whatever reason, and that’s their choice. Maybe ppl shld just stop judging, kahit gusto lang nila makakita ng snow. As long as migrants own up to their choice and if things doesn’t work out, they do not blame others.

I disagree. Your business did not thrive if Philippines govt and the system is corrupt. You even managing offline remotely. That means, you are dependent in Philippines economy and what it offers by the govt. Why not bring here and see the difference of how the govt operates? It is not a business wise decision to relocate but personal like many of us in Canada.
