How long does it take for a painting like that to dry? I did one yesterday that i love. But the top of the canvas is not dry at all and some areas around the edges that have dried are now wrinkled.
@LeftBrainedArtist11 ай бұрын
16x20 and smaller are usually dry to the touch by 48 hours but not fully cured for 7 - 14 days. The curling at the edges indicates the paint didn't stick to the painting surface, the painting surface itself is warping, or there was too much paint left on the surface. Without seeing a picture though I am only giving the normal things I have seen and not exactly what might have happened to yours Amanda.

Can you salvage your paint if you mixed them with too much flotrol?

What is a white-cloud mixture?
@LeftBrainedArtist5 ай бұрын
Most common is either white house paint and then white acrylic paint (1:1) and then pouring medium or white satin enamel paint and white acrylic paint (1:1) and then pouring medium. Helps the white rise to the surface after the pour and make cells that look like clouds.

I don’t know where on your site to ask this question, so I’ll do it here. When I mix up my pouring medium with white as the paint element, when I then add the pouring medium to my paint colours they become pastel shades. How do I keep the original colours? Thank you so much for taking the time and being accessible to amateurs like me, to answer our questions that other artists don’t respond to.
@LeftBrainedArtist2 жыл бұрын
You shouldn’t be adding white paint to any other color unless you want to make it more pastel. So you mix your medium and your blue paint. Then you make sure medium and your red paint. Then your medium and your white paint. All three don’t have white paint. I hope I understood your question correctly if not let me know

One of Olga Sony’s recipes is 3 parts Floetrol, 1 part Glue All, 1 part paint and 0.5 part water.I thought this is for the pouring medium. Obviously confused. Help please.
@LeftBrainedArtist2 жыл бұрын
@@sandrabarnes9164 There are hundreds of different recipes. I urge new people to start with a single medium (no special mixtures) and master that then move one to more complex ones like the one you mention here.

Very helpful video. I have a question about what is the ideal environment to dry paintings? I live in the Midwest, so temperatures and humidity vary greatly from season to season.
@LeftBrainedArtist2 жыл бұрын
Most paints say to dry them from 65-75' F but most don't talk about humidity. As long as the H stays about the same throughout the first 24 hours it should be ok. It's when it varies a ton along with the temperatures you can run in to problems.

I love your videos. I have a question. If I do a pour outside, will the heat affect it? It’s 90 here in Florida. I just don’t have much space inside. 😂
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
Yes it will. It won't dry as fast because of the humidity. Direct sunlight will cause the top coat to dry to fast and may cause cracking too.

@@LeftBrainedArtist Thank you! Maybe I’d better keep it inside. I watched your video on small spaces so now I thing I can manage it. Thanks for all you do! I get my supplies tomorrow and I will be ready to pour!

Question below comment: I’ve stalked your page and subscribed because you are super thorough with your posts! I’m taking your advice and going back to the basic’s as I’m clearly doing something wrong with trying various techniques 😂 My question is regarding paints and floetrol. I’m currently using Artists Loft, Acrylic Ready Mixed Pouring Paints. I’m not getting those gorgeous big cells I always see in videos, but I do get a few smaller cells time to time. Should I be adding floetrol to my ready mix paints? Is there a brand you would recommend vs what I’m currently using? Thank you for any and all advice!!
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
No. Ready mix paints do not need any pouring mediumd (Floetrol in this case). For cells you either need to be varying the densities of the paints you are using, use a few drops of silicone oil, or be using a color or two that are metallic or iridescent (they are "lighter" than other colors and will bubble up to the top and form cells). If you want cells that are very cirular and regular you want to use silicone. If you want more of the cloud looking cells than varying the density of paints you use or using metallic paints can get you those.

How much satin enamel do you need?
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
I usually do 1/4 satin enamel with my or whatever color it is going in to. Then if I want more reaction I add more. That creates great cloud pours though.

If your pour is on the thick side so it doesn't dry flat, it has wavy finish, when I epoxy the top, will it fill those valleys so the surface is flat? I have a cornhole board that is a wavy finish and want to epoxy the top. Obviously I need it flat 😂
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
Ooh, that sounds amazing. You didn't get cracking with that?

Might be a a silly question but you divided the 168 by 25. Where did the 25 come from?
@LeftBrainedArtist7 ай бұрын
One ounce of paint covers about 25 square inches of painting surface. So divide total surface area by 25 to approximate how much paint you need - I have a better explanation in this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYuzeWV-eL53p8U

This is beautiful!! Great colour combination! I also wanted to say, I am having trouble with picking colours. Do you believe when you put a painting in a room it has to match the room? Or do you think it can have colours of the room mixed with others? I am really anal when it comes to decorating, colours have to match. Drives me nuts sometimes.

Mixed for sure. It can even be complete complimentary and still work.

Hello! I discovered your channel after I did my first 'pour' (just a practice with leftover supplies before I tried anything too serious) and you're honestly a godsend! There's one thing I'd like to ask that may not be completely relevant to this video - how do you go about removing leftover oils from the surface of a dried pour before applying a varnish? ^^
@LeftBrainedArtist2 жыл бұрын
That is a whole video in itself. Lightly washing with Windex, alcohol, or watered down dish detergent are my favorites for regular varnishes. If you are doing resin you need a whole lot more washing or a isolation layer as it is very reactive with even the slightest of oils.
@presst4rt2 жыл бұрын
@@LeftBrainedArtist Thanks so much for the quick response!! I'll do some tester pours to practice on for sure, hoping the detergent method works! 🤞🏻

you put the paint into the mixing cup three ways (side, direct and distance). Would you recommend doing it that way or sticking to one method? If one method which would you choose? Thanks for another informative video.

I wanted to show that with a straight pour it could be done any way. If you want solid colors more use either the side or top layer. If you want a more mesh of color use the dirty pour. I always like to do dirty pour with metallic colors like Gina Deluca does.
