I don't think the romantic type of love is special and I think that the romantic type of love isn't real. More than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse. Also, you are more likely to be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse.
@searain1573
@searain1573 24 күн бұрын
Romantic love is inferior to platonic love. Platonic love is one of the strongest types of love, while romantic love is one of the weakest types of love. When a guy and a girl are best friends, they won't date or be in a romantic relationship with each other since they know it wouldn't work since they are too close. That proves that romantic love is inferior to platonic love. The best feeling for many girls is being able to have platonic guy friends that are like brothers to them. Most girls prefer having platonic guy friends over a boyfriend/husband. Many girls would choose their platonic male best friend over their boyfriend/husband and give more importance to them. People are closer to their platonic best friends than they are to their romantic partner. Platonic love is actually real, while romantic love is fake.

Nothing demonstrates the whole "undefined and unclear" aspect of the first revival like the Oktoberfest episode. Leela breaks up with fry in front of dozens of people, and instead of being sad about the end of the relationship Fry's is just happy to find out they were _in_ a relationship in the first place Apparently, he hadn't been sure

I think that the reason why Leela keeps getting assholes is because Leela had very little self respect at the start and slowly grew out of that. Fry just screwed up every relationship he was in because he was childish. Their relationships basically helped pave the path forwards for them as people.
@danielbird5284
@danielbird5284 Ай бұрын
And I also believe that they both helped each other to rectify those flaws because fry have the most respect for her and show her that she’s worth something and Leela shows fry that he’s more then just the childish delivey boy and they both have something that they didn’t have in other relationships, they love each other

I wonder, given that they’ve already shown Fry and Leela getting married and growing old together, if the next ‘will they won’t they’ will be whether or not they have kids, since that’s the one milestone they haven’t ever done, saved for a scrapped concept from one of the movies.

@@adrivoid5376 If done well, an adoption route would be a cool way to introduce a new character to the show. I Leela was already willing to adopt with another dude, so I could see an episode that involves and ends with a houseless kid with some kind of deformity to tug on Leela's heartstrings, who's also projected to have a rough life with no future ahead of them, something Fry would of course sympathize with, and them deciding to go for it. Bonus points if the kid definitely has some bad habits/personality traits to overcome similar to Fry having to overcome his laziness, that'll make raising the kid right difficult but endearing and touching for Fry and Leela while giving the new character some actual character development. I just realized any kid Fry and Leela would have would be default get a fun uncle Bender. Tell me there aren't a hundred funny episodes you could write just rolling with that premise alone.

21:05 I also think a big problem is the fact that most people don't know how to write a relationship, because they either haven't been in one, or they haven't been in a health one. Not to mention that it is presumed that most of the readers of comics are children, teens, or losers with zero game.
@DoveJS
@DoveJS Жыл бұрын
I mostly agree with you. Part of that comes from the writers not treating the love interest as an interesting character in their own right with their own autonomy and motivations, but as an add-on for the main character, so it's just not possible to know how to write the relationship even if the writer has experience in a good one because one of the characters doesn't feel like a real person. And I sincerely believe that a lot of kids, teens, and losers with zero game are comfortable reading about relationships; I think they just don't like poorly written and forced relationships or those filled with red flags (if they can recognize these for the disturbing things that they are), although some of the people in those demographics may suck it up and continue reading anyway because that's what they have to do to enjoy the characters that they actually like or else to get their romantic fix in the medium of their choice. (And Heterosexual Compulsion is a hell of a drug!) I mean, if everyone wrote about terrible friendships that weren't funny versus well-written healthy friendships it'd be the same situation. It's not as if most people don't like friends because they don't have any. (Well, okay, this is the internet lol but you know what I mean!) Edit: I forgot to add, the only reason kids dislike romantic relationships is honestly because of the patriarchy and misogyny. Kids are smart even if they don't really understand what's wrong and why because everyone else takes it for granted; they simply internalize what adults teach them about being an adult one day. Another reason they don't like coercion or red flags; the only reason to ignore them is because someone else tries to say they're normal. ALSO I think another problem is when writers assume that a relationship must show evidence/hints of sex or that the relationship should replace the entire plot once it takes off and that scares the writer from doing anything except the will-they-won't-they or something else more shallow to keep the end at bay. IMHO the Owl House is the strongest proof that a great, well-written romantic relationship of any age can be shown with sincere, healthy love and without going beyond PG; both characters being fleshed out and made interesting while still giving other characters room to shine. Don't get me wrong, I'm down with more mature depictions of relationships but obviously kids wouldn't want that and shouldn't be shown certain things. This ties into what I'm trying to explain about the writer assuming there needs to be strong implications of sex to make the relationship seem legitimate or that this is what a relationship is and nothing else. I feel like male writers, especially in comic books, fall into this trap the easiest, especially when pandering to the male gaze and so it's off-putting for a variety of people. Like, it was mentioned that Spiderman was better known as a teenager which is why they dropped the Mary Jane romance but I genuinely had no idea he started out that way and then I generally forgot even when I did know because honestly? Him and Mary Jane as a couple are iconic plus I remember Peter having a ball-bashing boss, not Peter being a nerd boy in high school or college. Edit: lol my train of thought got wrecked; I was trying to say Peter and MJ as a couple was more than that, it worked okay, although I can't claim it was perfect. I don't think Peter without her is automatically better off and they made it work for 20 years so ya know... and people liked that! Some got upset about the breakup. That's why I love that the first Spiderverse movie references this and also gets them back together in a reasonably realistic way.
@valentinkambushev4968
@valentinkambushev4968 Жыл бұрын
@@DoveJS Another problem when it comes to romance in comics that also translates to manga and anime as well is that the writers (who are mostly male) think like this: "Only girls care about romance, and girls are not going to read/watch this. Our readers/watchers are teens and losers who are over 30 and have never been with a woman. They want to see sex, not talking about feelings!"

When it comes to Spider-Man it's a lot more of a nostalgia thing I think, writers and editors believe he's at his best miserable and alone, which is ridiculous but I think it's how they see it cause marrying Peter to them made him old

Personally, they're my overall favorite cartoon couple because their story feels so real. Fry had to grow up and Leela had to work through the abandonment issues and trauma of her childhood for them to get together, and even then, it wasn't an immediate success for them. They had to keep working with each other and finding a way back together to get there. And when they finally figured it out, they became so, so good together. They really do set the bar for every animated relationship imo

20:10 That is exactly the reason why my interest in the Dragon Prince fell off a cliff. While I realize that some of what happened was out of their control, the writers did screw up the main couple, Callum and Rayla. In seasons 1 to 3, the were getting closer until they officially started a relationship towards the end of season 3. But then the writers continued the story in a comic that broke them up again, and when the show finally returned with season 4, and now with season 5 as well, Callum and Rayla are still not as close as they were in season 3. I was exited to see what I thought to be not your typical will-they-wont-they trash until the very last episode of the show, only for the writers to ruin the relationship in a comic, and having them still not made up their mind on where their relationship stands at the end of season 5, out of 7 seasons planned.

At the time I only had a couple of them, Season 1 -vol 3 and Season 2-vol 1 and in those, I would notice hints of Fry developing feelings for Leela. And It wasn't until I bought the complete season 4 DVD I didn't think it was gonna be the final season. Eventually was able to see every episode in order later on I understood everything. It was an incredible journey for sure.

kinda seemed more like Fry was putting more effort in their relationship trying to change himself all the time like waiting for Leela to wake up from a coma that could've killed them no came to the hospital when he got runover she was disgusted when he turned himself into a mutant she couldn't even give him a handshake he said he was willing to stay with leela even when she became an octopus lady I still like their relationship though that they stayed together when time froze
@DoveJS
@DoveJS Жыл бұрын
To be fair, when Fry tried to change just for Leela, it wasn't fair to either of them, regardless of her exact response. Fry should want to change to improve his own life for his own benefit and to do less harm by being more thoughtful towards others while Leela shouldn't accept people who try to force her to change for *their* benefit or to fulfill the role that they expect her to play, without any thought for her well-being and autonomy. So, even if she has a shallow or bad response towards him, while that isn't necessarily good, if she accepts Fry pandering to what she wants or to what Fry thinks she wants then Leela is just reenacting what the other men in her life did to her. That's not true growth; it's just a fawning performance. It's why Fry got so worried when he couldn't be certain if Leela only loved the worm-ridden him or if she loved him regardless and the changes allowed that to shine through. Basically, if Fry is putting in all the effort, it doesn't work out if he's just trying to mold himself to her expectations without really being a good person and the same is true for Leela. It works when Fry is being considerate and so is she. (But also it probably didn't help that the writers sometimes couldn't decide what they were doing later on lol.)

I disagree that Futurama got away with it because 'comedy'. I feel one thing that made FryxLeela work is that the show never lost sight that it was an ensemble comedy and never became the FryxLeela show. Like the episode that broke everyone's heart's Jurassic Bark didn't have anything to do with Fry and Leela's relationship. Overclockwise was mainly a Bender episode with Fry and Leela as more of a background thing. The show didn't rise and fall on their relationship, which is why it worked.

Great video! This was my favorite ship of all time. What I like most is that the dynamic is always them, but the relationship shifts about every season or two. I think because they didn't intend for them to end up together, the writers took the time to develop both characters a satisfying way that left Leela as much more than "just the love interest for the main character". It allowed the relationship to develop naturally like it would IRL. Season 6 was frustrating at the time, but I can appreciate it now. They stated they weren't yet together, but clearly acted much closer than before the movies. I'm so happy the show is back and it's good! I can't wait to see how they handle fry and leela. Fry and Leela are one of my favorite cartoon couples. Actually both of them are tied with Bob and Linda Blecher as my favorite as I honestly can’t choose. But seriously, I really enjoy their chemistry and I love how both developed over time. Fry is an example of a sympathetic comedic character. He’s childish, immature at times, and isn’t the smartest character in Futurama but he has an incredibly big heart. He doesn’t force himself onto Leela when she says no. He’s persistent but he doesn’t do anything to harm her. He has a boyish charm and wants to do everything he can to make her happy. Even when he messes up, he doesn’t do it intentionally and even when he does, he almost instantly regrets it. In Season 6, he wanted nothing more than to end the relationship between Lars and Leela. After Lars left Leela at the alter, Fry was at first happy but when he saw Leela crying, he felt bad and later, when Leela talked about Lars, Fry decided to try and get them back together; however, neither one knew that Lars was Fry from an alternate time where he resumed his old life. Fry’s life throughout the series is chaotic, adventurous and tragic. With what Fry and Leela had been through, from being friends to having trouble finding that special someone, they really are a great couple, even if others tend to disagree.

To the idea of it being Hard to Write a couple, it's harder to write a active couple because you can't just have that Sike moment or worse the "Fake-out Break-up" BS. Like it's not as easy to write drama, allegedly; yet also the whole if we give people what the want they'll leave BS, despite that if you give the fans what they want they'll want to watch it.

I didnt realize I'd been wathching Futurama so close to its original run. I think I started in 04 with it on Comedy Central, and then I remember when the Films were being broken up, I dead ass thought that happened in the 2010's XD I still remember the hole opening up to start the Beast with a Thousand backs. I also think that Fry and Lila had a big role in shaping my relationship life lol

Something I notice, every one of their show finales' ended with Fry and Leela holding hands, Devil's hands are idle playthings, it was on holophonor but I think it still counts.

Came for the Helluva Boss analysis, and stayed for my favorite show Futurama. Never thought I'd see it on this channel but I loved it. But you forgot to mention how Leela loves Fry's boyish charm but hates his childish immaturity. (My favorite quote of Leela describing Fry... the indecisiveness is palpable)

the comedy central only survives because it´s the south park original home. And yeat, they still make a lot of bad shows and how they get any audience or more seasosn, it´s a mistery.

what's it like for you people to be so not damaged you can't understand how two people can disappoint each other or push each other away to protect themselves, or not be sure themselves where their relationship stands, and you can definitely be sure you love one another and want to be in each other's lives without being sure in what capacity in the long term?

I hope hope hope they push these two actually forward and move on already to all the potential them being married could have. Its shown apparently that everyone remembers the time stop so that should mean both of them remember that Fry proposed and she said yes but so far there's been no real sign of that development in ep 1 of the new season. There so many story and comedy potential marriage and other things like wanting to have kids together could bring instead of them still being casual (somehow!) after last seasons ending. Hell all the actors will want to retire their characters eventually. Instead of having them voice characters into their retirement like Simpsons, they should move it forward and finish Futurama and if they want to keep it going start a new series with a new crew doing something different and have Fry and Leela's kid be one of the main cast as someone around fry's age in S1 when it starts. Because really its the comedy and heart that carries the show and unlike other shows where without the main cast it can't really carry on I can see Futurama telling new stories and dynamics with new characters.

Something I’ve noticed in the later Comedy Central era episodes and the Hulu revival is that they seem to have matured Fry slightly and made Leela a bit immature. Whether this was intentional or not, it is a good call as it shows character growth and how they are willing to work hard for each other.
