Awesome, if not essential tool, if you want to convert your authentic tube amp signals to line level. Not so cheap, but worth the money. One big advantage of the Fryette is, that it works with 2/4, 8 and 16 ohm speaker outputs. other ones are the flexible connection options, although first some use of the manual will be helpful, as all the controls and connections and their relationships are not always self-explanatory without the manual and if you use the wrong controls with the wrong connections, nothing happens. Next advantage is, that you can use is fully passive as reactive load box, or active with or without cabinet IR's. The 16 preset places are enough, the built-in presets already sound good, but of course everybody has his own favorites, which additionally can be fine-tuned. Even in passive mode you can select between different reactive load modes (Edge - Brite - Flat and Deep - Warm - Flat for both treble and bass response.) I personally anyway prefer using Flat, the rest I do with IR fine tuning, but the options certainly can make sense with some more unbalanced sounding amps. I already had the smaller AMT Power Eater, but this one only worked with amps up to 15W, sounded nice and was well usable, but by far not as good as the Fryette, also hardly offered any fine adjustment options and then tried Torped Captor, which was an immediate return, as it sounded horrible, swallowed almost every bass and a good, well adjusted tube amp treble sudddenly sounded as scratchy as the one of a transistor amp, which is exactly not, what I expect from a reactive load box. Also the built-in fan was horribly loud, opposite to the one of the Fryette. Great for recording, amp capturing or even simply for using your own stage amp at bedroom level through your computer monitors... More expensive than most of my amps, but for the results ok! I anyway only need it once for all of them, but not any more real cabinets and speakers....

Is there any plan to make a PS-100 that captures whatever is in the effects loop and sends it out through the XLR along with the amp signal?
@FryetteAmps
@FryetteAmps 2 жыл бұрын
There is no need to add such a feature. Simply send the output of your effects chain to your DAW. The impedance will be low enough that an XLR connection is not really needed. If you want the effects signal to still go to the PS power amp stage, then to the speakers, put a Y cable on the effects output and return one side to the loop return, and the other to your DAW, FOH or whatever. Finally, if you don't need to have a live speaker cab running, use the Self Attenuation feature: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpe9pYyYitx3kKM

Hi! I’ve looked at the manual and item 18 Cab thru as well as illustrations 5, 6 & 7 and have a couple questions. First, I want to verify that it will act as a load box, just like the Power Station for being able to dial in my amp and then drop the volumes. Second, while this may sound weird, will the signal to the speaker also have influence of the IR if I have it on? (I like the idea of playing with those even going into a cabinet). Finally, the effects loop says headphones, does this mean that I cannot use the effects loop and send the wet signal to my cabinet?
@FryetteAmps
@FryetteAmps Жыл бұрын
1) It's a load box, not an attenuator. Sorry, no control of cab volume. 2) With a cab connected, the cabs reactive behavior replaces the internal load's reactive behavior 3) You will need a power amp to send affected signal to your cab. In that case, use the HP out as a stereo line out which is post loop.

I do have the old PL model without IRs. One amp is actually plugged in permanently and from there I go with line out to the line in of my Powerstation and from there to my cab. As the cab with a greenback has its own sound I use the anlag cab sim of the PL more like a tone control. This altogether works actually quite well. Recording is something I don’t do. Has the PL IR in this setup any advantages?

The audio quality and noise floor have improved somewhat, but in your application, if you have it dialed in the way you like it and it's working for you, we see no reason to change it.

Hi There.....Quick question.....is the Fryette PLIR's reactive load emulating a specific type of speaker and cabinet? Thanks!
@FryetteAmps
@FryetteAmps Жыл бұрын
It's a common question that we've discussed a lot. Guitar speakers all share a similar impedance curve behavior with subtle differences in low end resonance and high frequency rise. The PL-IR load emulates those characteristics. The mini-toggle switches on the front panel shift them up and down to capture those subtle differences.

Recently I bought Power Load IR. It works well but when I'm using it in combination with my Marshall 6100LM - 5881 it starts making quite a loud noise, which is basically a high-pitched sound coming from the amplifier, and the signal gets clipped (red LED is flashing). When I switch this device to FLAT, that hi-pitched sound is a bit reduced but clipping is still present. I tried to switch my Marshall to half power (50W) or/and triode mode (instead of pentode) which reduces the output again to half, but the sound and clipping didn't go away, it gets just a little bit suppressed. The problem occurs when the master volume on the amp passes 11o'c (in full power 100W mode), similarly in 50W mode as well, just a bit later. Previously I used Marshall 2204 (50W), VHT Pittbull 50/12 combo, and Mesa Roadking 2 with its 120W without any issue. It might be relevant to mention that the power tubes are quite old but working.

Mine did the same thing you explained. He had another video about using a moorly, hum eliminator or something like that, I can't remember. I don't know if it would solve your issue. I gave up and bought a suhr IR load box. But it's worth a try. I don't think they cost much.

@@jrlee243 thanks. I think I didn't explain it properly. The sound coming from PLIR is not hum. It's the normal sound of the guitar, I guess it's coming from the transformer inside the PLIR
@HEZ63
@HEZ63 6 ай бұрын
Sounds to me rather like feedback between guitar and amp. You are running a hot adjusted amp at very high volume, even if the Power Load reduces it, but physically the reactions remain the same. Try to get more distance between guitar and amp or try to change the angle between them. If things change, this is feedback. But also can be some ground loop issue or something else, like a bad tube. Hard to tell from the distance. On the other hand, if you say, clipping is still present, then you most probably have adjusted a control too high. Did you properly read the manual so that you really know, which controls affect which inputs/outputs in which configuration? Can be a little complicated first, as the relations are not always obviously recognizable on this unit (Analogue Out 1 works with different controls than Analogue Out 2 or IR Out so you need to use different controls for adjustment, depending on your connection settings.) I'm using mine with an Orange Jim Root and never noticed comparable problems even at very high gain settings, if the right controls had been properly adjusted. If the signal is too hot, this of course will cause signal distortion problems and if you then only readjust the wrong control, this hardly will help.

Do the reactive load switches emulate any particular impedance curve(s)? For example, Warm + edge equating to a greenback or v30 curve?
