I have to say this demo is great and I just got one of these IR units for xmas. So far, I've tried it with 2 of my amps - vintage 74 Hiwatt DR504 and vintage 63 Fender Blonde Bassman. It does a wonderful job and can't wait to experiment with other IR's.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. And that was what I was trying to show so I am glad it works in the video. A lot of videos about impulse responses have really distorted tones (and they can sound great) so I wanted to show that the little but important details like dynamics really shines through the RL too. Hi Simon. Hope everything is going great with you. I just discovered your YT channel and your videos are very impressive. I'm kind of new to home recording. I'm really hoping you'd be willing to do a short video of basic signal flow and gain levels before the signal hits the DAW and computer. No matter what I do , I seem to be creating digital distortion somewhere between my guitar and my computer. Have a great week. 🎸🎸🎸🎸

Rik J. Smith Thank you. Help me spread the word about my channel :) We want to avoid digital distortion and to do that I always keep the levels well below the cliping point on my interface. Usually I don´t go over minus 6db when I track guitars (or anything else). I want to have enough headroom to mix the track and keep in mind that you can always bump up the gain on the mix if the headroom is there. When I mix I also keep minus 6db for the Master. Could I know which specific cable I have to buy (I will use an Audient ID22)? Best regards, Francesco

@SimonGotthelfMusic
@SimonGotthelfMusic 5 жыл бұрын
Zachary Drummond Hi. The sound clips at the end was recorded with my guitar into a loop pedal into the Bassman amp into the Suhr RL IR. Maybe it sounds more similar because I am playing with a clean sound and distorted sounds would show the differences more clearly. I hear a difference though especially with headphones or studio monitors. Cheers Simon

Simon, I notice that I often get a digital artifacty sound occasionally when I record distorted guitar with this thing. I'm not clipping anywhere in the chain (according to the lights on myinterface and the clipping light on the Suhr) so I'm not sure what's happening. Thoughts? Hey Simon great video! I'm completely new to the world of IRs myself and a little confused. With this, could I crank my Super Reverb to get "that tone/feel" then find an IR that compliments it and run that through headphones or monitors so as not to blow the doors off of my apartment? Or does that require a built in attenuator feature like the Boss Tube Amp Expander or Ox? Cheers!
@SimonGotthelfMusic
@SimonGotthelfMusic 4 жыл бұрын
WillyM415 Yes that is what I do 😊 you have to find the right IR and that can take a little time but it is definetly worth it. The Suhr RL is a load so you don’t need anything else. If you play it through monitors it will probably sound different from what you are use to from your SR because the speakers and cab is a big part of the sound. But it will be great for recording and it is so much more apartment friendly than the original 😊 cheers

Rusty Milner thanks man 🙏 I appreciate that 😊 I have recorded the most with my old Marshall 412 cab. Lately I have used the Komet Ambikab - best cabinet I have ever tried. And then I have a small 112 Marshall with a Scumback M75 speaker. Great little cab. Cheers

Love my Suhr Reactive Load, but I wish it would have a speaker load selector so I can use my 68 Fender Vibrolux which is an 4 ohm amp. My amp tech said that is not a good ide to run it at 8 ohm since I usually run the volume at 8. I was hoping the new one would have it like the new Fryette Power load.

George Alayon I agree, have the same problem with my old Vox. It’ running on 16 ohms. Cheers

@@SimonGotthelfMusic Hi Simon.. i'm probably going to look a bit stupid here.. (nothing new) but will this work with my Marshall combo with a 16 Ohm speaker extension?
@SimonGotthelfMusic
@SimonGotthelfMusic 5 жыл бұрын
kubr1ck36 Not stupid at all. It has to be an 8 ohm output so you don’t damage your amp. There is not a 16 ohm version of the Suhr RL. But I would think your amp has an 8 ohm output? Hope this helps 😊Cheers

@@SimonGotthelfMusic Unfortunately i can only see one speaker extension option. But i think i'll talk myself into buying a new amp because this Suhr box looks great. Thanks for taking the time to answer, Simon!! 😎✌️

@@SimonGotthelfMusic The Fender Vibrolux only has a 4 ohm speaker output. I bought a new 68 Vibrolux that was modified by Alessandro who rewired it to a point to point circuit and changed the transformer to the original 68 Vibrolux specs. I use my Fryette Power Station which has ohm selector on input(amp) and output(speaker) when cranking the Vibrolux from 4 to 10.

This does not attenuate right?

Nope. You can record dead silent using this as a load or you can run through it to a cab at full volume (and still record with the DI/IR out ) Cheers Simon
