The Fryette Power Station® - a new amplifier attenuator and re-amplification solution, offering players intuitive and precise control over amplifier volume, distortion behavior and a wide range of highly refined tonal qualities previously unavailable from any single attenuating or re-amping product.
Built on decades of experience producing the finest all-tube power amps available, the Power Station is a practical and highly functional tool that solves problems frequently encountered in live playing and recording environments. It beautifully accentuates the inherent qualities of any amplifier and allows your amplifier to breathe and dynamically respond to your playing technique the way a great guitar amp should. The Power Station is designed to be transparent, user friendly, reliable and ultra-responsive to a wide array of guitar amplifier and speaker types. It also integrates seamlessly with any combination of internal and external speaker configurations.
The Power Station also excels as a power booster, something that no other attenuator can do. Just as you would connect a big amp to reduce output volume, the Power Station can also be used to boost the output of a small amplifier. Imagine taking your mini-amp or small vintage combo to a gig and having enough power to be heard without sacrificing feel and tonal quality. It is not only possible, but easy and fun!
Finally, your Power Station functions as a versatile silent reactive load for direct recording by simply connecting the Balanced or Unbalanced Line out to your recording interface.

Loving the PS2A, the improvements from the original are very well thought out and work fantastically. Particularly impressed with the pad on the volume control, great for home use. I’ve used it with a range of amps/ speakers and feel that it sounds better than the original , probably due to losing the Low Pass filter. I’ve also considered using a Strymon Iridium ( with its cab sim disabled) into a 2x12 cab and have a couple of questions. As it’s not strictly a line level output device would you recommend running to the line in or through the FX return? If I run to line in can I then go from line out to audio interface etc, from the manual I don’t think you can but maybe wring. Thanks
@FryetteAmps
@FryetteAmps 3 жыл бұрын
Since there's no downside to running your Iridium into the FX Return, there's no reason not to try it. And you can experiment with the return level using the rear panel level switch. Whichever way works best for you is the right way. The Line Out is before the Line In, so the only way to effect the Line out is to send that to the Iridium first. Here's a link to the internal signal path of the PS-2: cdn10.bigcommerce.com/s-qis3kuj7/products/93/images/759/Block_Diagram__PS2SR__85230.1616293488.1280.1280.jpg?c=2

Here's a question. When you say the power amp section makes your smaller amp sound much bigger, do you mean it makes it a lot louder, or do you mean if can take an EL84 amp that's relatively thin sounding and add the huge low end and umph of a 50W amp? Basicallt does it just increase the volume, or will it turn a small EL84 amp into a large 50W sounding amp with that big bottle tub sound, even at low volumes?

I am trying to connect my Fryette PS-2A to a Fender ‘64 Custom Deluxe Reverb combo amp (8 ohm), fitted with a Celestion T5953 8 ohm 90w Alnico Cream speaker. I have followed the wiring application example number 2 in the Power Station owners manual (Fender amps speaker cable into female to female 1/4” adapter, then Standard 1/4” to 1/4” Male speaker cable into the PS2 speaker 1 parallel wired output jack, then Standard 1/4” to 1/4” Male speaker cable from Fender amp speaker out to PS2 amp in). The PS2 Brite and Warm switches are set to flat, amplifier and cabinet impedance switches set to 8 ohm. I am not running any effect in the loop. There is normal sound coming from the Fender amplifier, and the Fender amplifier volume controls work, but the Fryette PS2 volume control does not work. The sound cuts out completely when I operate the PS2 Bypass switch. Basically the PS2 does not seem to be doing anything (I want it to attenuate). What am I doing wrong?

In theory a great piece of gear, however it introduces fan noise in the room and (!) a certain amount of hum in my speakers when idling. This is extremely disturbing when playing at home in my studio. I contacted Fryette support, sent videos showing the hum issue and never heard back. For me it seems that they simply squeezed too much into a relatively small enclosure or didn’t take too much care for adapting the Power Stations power supply to the European 50 Hz (instead of 60 in the US). My power stations are now idling in my studio unless I hear from Fryette. The solution for me is taking a stand-alone reactive load and reamping the line signal from this unit with one of my other tube amps (into the effects return). This is a noiseless setup and in my view the way to go and much better.

If you really need the control switching function and the extra headroom provided by the PS-100, that would be the choice. If you don't play that loud, or need the switching features the PS-2 is more than enough power.

Newbie question. Is it safe to have a tube amp connected to the amp in, and a synergy sn-2 and a friedman ir-x (on a a/b switch) connected to the line in permanently? I would only use ether the synergy/ irx or tube amp at once. The speaker out would go to my cab *with a celestion f12 X200 ff
@FryetteAmps
@FryetteAmps 9 ай бұрын
Currently that won't work. You have to unplug the Syn 2 from the Line In to allow the loaded amp signal to get to the power amp. However, we have a solution for that coming out next month. So, keep an eye out for an announcement soon.

I want to use this with my solid state Vox Pathfinder 15R amplifier. The issue is - my pathfinder has an overdamped power section which is normal for most SS amplifiers. Is this device overdamped as well to give a faithful amplification to smaller amplifiers - or is it an underdamped power section. I would like to get an underdamped relationship with speaker and amplifier when using this to amplify my 15 watts SS amplifier.

Would fryette consider making one of these with el 34 tubes? It definitely sounds like the most natural attenuation from everything Iv heard online over many demoes. However I find that it recessed and softens the mids a bit , I suppose this is due to the tubes. I would use this for Marshall’s but I wouldn’t want to recess their midrange if possible . However if I used this with 6l6 amp then I’d use it
@Mumumumykul
@Mumumumykul 2 жыл бұрын
i have a mesa with el84 tubes and tried the Two Notes Torpedo Captor, and now own a Power Station. with both, attenuating my amp made me lose significant high end. however, with the power station, i was able to get a lot of it back. i feel like i have to attribute that to it using 6L6s. when i use it to boost my amp, all that rich crunchy, peavey-ish high end that my mesa just cant provide comes out. its the best of both worlds. i just think putting EL34 tubes in the power station would darken the tone too much. i feel like if your amp already had 6L6's it might be useful but, when attenuating, its way harder to keep your tone bright than to bring back low end or low mids. at really quiet volumes, for example, i have to have the presence knob all the way up and the depth knob all the way down.
