Another great video. If only the hat switch on the hotas one worked as it should, as a trim switch. Nice to see you teaching throttle trim effects, so many people neglect that. Aces and yourself are very good about that.

I used to use your method for controller trim but now have it set as RB + Up/Dwn on the left stick as it is mor intuive to me RB + Up LS = trim up, RB + LS Dwn = trim down. Great camera work on your options.

After reviewing my Xbox 360 controller on my PC (kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4PHoqawe7SlhaM) I'm half tempted to use Left/right bumper buttons only for trim - but this will take away some of the added benefit of holding down the bumpers and assigning other functions to them.

You know, I was thinking of doing this myself too. I was also going to see what having throttle up and down on RB + right stick up/down was like too, which would free up A and B buttons for other things. EDIT: I tried this and it doesn't work for me. Having Trim set to RB and left stick still pitches the aircraft even when holding RB and RB + right stick behaves very strangely - you hold RB and push the right stick up and let go of the stick but the throttle continues to rise until you let go of RB. So I have since gone back to the original setup for now :D

I have been practicing using trim for a few days just doing basic takeoffs and landings on small runways. The trim just becomes muscle memory to the point where you won't think about it. Trimming manually is more fun and practical than the AI trimming for you. A good way to learn is to see how the trim effects your aircraft at different speeds and flaps. It makes your takeoffs much easier and helps you land much better. I used to just let the AI decide for me but thought that wasn't how you should experience the game. So I decided to change the settings to True To Life and it was honestly much more fun and taught me how to control the plane better.

I've found a bit different way to trim, using one of the "secondary" axis knob (RTY3) on my old X-55 throttle control. The problem is that every airplane type handles trim differently. What is too fine for one airplane, could be too harsh for another. I solved this by adjusting the axis curve in X-55 app the way that is is very narrow around center (allowing me to fine tune around 0% trim) and gets much steeper on the both ends (allowing for some significant changes if needed). Works well to me.

Thank,you for this. Trimming is the bane of flying in MSFS. For the many of us who have flown a real Cessna 172, your video clearly demonstrates it’s much harder to trim in MSFS 2020 and than in the real airplane. That said, moving a step up into into airplanes like the C208 caravan, the rudder and aileron trims are where I really struggle. Getting the C208 to fly straight and level seems to me to be far too hard in MSFS 2020. How do you handle rudder and aileron trimming?

I don’t claim to speak for Huddison, he does a fine job of that by himself lol, but it those aircraft I tend to default to the actual cockpit controls for rudder and aileron trimming. I have no idea why Thrustmaster made their hat switch on the hotas one useless for trimming.

Hi Steve, when I fly the Caravan on PC, I use the left/right rocker switch next to my up/down rocker on the Flight Yoke system, for aileron trim. This seems to work well for the odd time that I need to use it.

That IMHO depends on the airplane type and takeoff weight. Also, Cessna C192, for example should have "takeoff" trim marked on the trim wheel...

So do I gather that with the trim wheel pushing forward is for going up and pushing down will have you go down. And then having to find a point where you are flying at a consistent level flight.

You typically push forward on the trim wheel to trim nose down and back to trim up - sounds counter-intuitive but one soon gets used to it ;)

Remeber trim for airspeed. power for altitude. excess power at set trim you climb, decrease in power required for level flight at set trim you descend. Trim for desired airspedd then use power for controlled climb or descent.

When I tell you I was trying to look down at the wheel on the instrument panel while trying to watch where I was going… the coordination, SO not there. The instructor and I saw Jesus at least 5 times before I realized it was just RB+RS

Ive been flight simming for 40 years and have never seen any trim issues as annoying as in MSFS2020. Its like the trim wheel has a mind of its own. What used to be as easy as push a button trim up push another button trim down has devolved to some unknown Key pushes that work too fast if you hold it too many ms's and not enough if you click once.

It’s very strange. I used to be able to use the rocker switch on my hotas 1 controller for x box S but it just stopped working. I now use the B1 and B2 buttons and I’m happy enough with this.

So, I have a solid fix for the horrible gritty sticktion of the hotas one t-flight rudder pedals, I ordered two sets (4 total) Linear Rail Rod 10mm x 300mm from Amazon, cut them (with an angel grinder, these shafts are hard) to 9 3/8" long, and install, the problem with the original is that, the sliders are glass reinforced plastic, so they are grinding into the low grade slider rails, hope this helps

Thank you sir, I am new to FS2020 on XBOX, I am trying to keep the C152 in steady flight, 2000 rpm, 80 kts, hard trying to keep it dead level, I have weather set to calm..nose just wants to dive after a 30 seconds or so...I am constantly trimming up all the time?

Hey Huddison, I have an issue with the 787. I haven't played for a long time and I re-installed the game. The 787 is always in a nose up attitude as soon as I take off! I am on PC playing with an Xbox controller. Trimming does not seem to work and the plane never goes out from the nose up attitude. Any advice? If I play with the 737 or Airbus A320 I have no issues and the planes behave as they should!
