If you're wondering why we came in a bit hot and high: Meanwhile it turned out the DME in the plane is not reading correctly. They simulated it in Statute Miles rather than Nautical Miles. That's about a 15% difference. CanadianCaptainMoustache in the FSS discord developed a code-wise fix, that he posted in that discord. With Marten's (FSS CEO) permission, I created the files including his fixes and could share them in there. Check the FSS Discord if you're interested in those files until an official update arrives.

This plane is so awesome, and beautyfully modeled. Wikipedia says the 727 uses the same cockpit that was also later used in the 737-200 which means we get an absolute retro kinda-737 here too. All these partially open and visible pipes and cables look so awesome and give that plane such an functional and industrial look inside without any regards to fairings, design-elements and comfort like all modern planes have. I bet the heating is some open pipe too below the window sill, and all control surfaces can be optionally controlled by pulleys and wire ropes if the hydraulics fail.

I hadn't heard about the FSS 727 so your review video was a nice surprise. I worked on a 727 sim for Lufthansa, amongst other airlines, years ago. The DLH F/E told me that once you had set climb thrust there was no need to adjust EPR during climb, the engine Fuel Control Unit took care of altitude variations. I noticed a few systems errors in the video, according to my memory of the systems anyway: The APU appears to start like a 737 APU. In the 727 you had to select APU master ON, wait for the APU door light to illuminate, then select START. APU and External power could not be used together. Selecting one would kick the other off. Similarly when you put the first engine generator online that will kick external or APU gen power off. The AC Generator synchronisation looks very simplified. In reality, after starting the engines, you would connect one engine gen (usually gen 3 IIRC) and adjust the frequency to show 400 Hz. Then select the AC meters to the next engine to be paralleled which would activate the synchro lights, then adjust the frequency on that engine until the synchro lights went out. Repeat for the third engine gen. The synchro lights flashed faster the more the frequency was different. The lights got brighter the more out of phase the gens were. With both lights out the frequency were matched and the gens were in phase. Not easy for beginners. The synchro lights and external power light were not solid white, but were clear bulbs with orange filaments. The INS looks OK except for entering waypoints. The INSERT light should extinguish after entering each coordinate, not stay on until both are entered. That only happens when entering present position. I don't think many 727s had INS, which was horrifically expensive for anything except long haul aircraft at the time. By the time RNAV was being retrofitted better systems than INS were available. Still, it's a handy option if you like the idea of manually entering all those waypoints.

Love to hear it! Thank you very much for those comments as well! I agree some of the stuff looks a little simplified at the moment, I hope they're going to improve it in the future as well. Some things may look different in the FSS model of the plane since there were just so many different 727 variants out there and many airlines highly modified their cockpits. For instance one may have had white lights for the synchro lights while other may have had clear bulbs with orange filaments. In fact the variety of modifications is great enough that FSS managed to include things in their checklist and manuals that their own aircraft does not have ;-)

Cheers Emi. What I like about the FSS 727 is they have chosen the more modern autopilot with ALT SEL and a VS wheel rather than the very basic AP you in most 727sims. It looked fairly standard to me, if there is such a thing as a standard 727.

The FSS APU exhaust does not have the door installed.
@simprove4 ай бұрын
There's an APU light on the F/E Doors panel. I assumed that was the door. Perhaps that's the fuel valve? I'm working from memory and it's been a long while since I saw the schematics for a 727.

If you look inside the gear well you can see the apu, which goes across both sides of the main landing gear. The intake being on the side and the exhaust on the of the right wing root. One interesting quirk of this design is that the APU cannot be operated in flight (at least with the gear up) since the air intake is blocked.

@A330Driver regarding setting flaps, there is a detent at 2 degree. This is there to make sure to first check LE flaps extending properly before moving on to extend the flaps further. So the correct sequence woudl be: put it to detent 2, wait until the LE flaps light turned green, then move further. There is a nice original training video series available here on youtube: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGG1oaZ9a75nr6csi=fhommSSXaY1is0wn&t=83

In the GSX settings panel there is the option to ignore the departure time, it's quite a convenient option. I recommend to always leave it checked for time changes like in this case :) Also, does the 727 have servo tabs to the flight controls?

Hey Emi great video, As a former 737 driver I must ask, how come the pmdg aircraft’s need extra rudder during the rotation. For instance taking off 5 knots hw 5 knots xw I held centerline well little rudder but on rotation I had to add extra left rudder maintain center line. I thought it was more or less the rudder amount need for centerline control before rotation and during rotation was the same. Thank you for your help, Brayden.

Do you extend the flaps to 15 without extending the landing gear with the thrust in or close to idle? That would cause the gear warning to come on.

Your loss. It's a different team working on the 727 and E-Jets are still in Early Access, so there's a clear choice of buy/not buy. They're pretty transparent what they need to do for a full release and what they're working on at the moment. I find these sulking boycotts quite childish, maybe even stupid.
